00:00 Players, Bill Walsh would not retain.
00:04 Take it from here.
00:05 Okay.
00:06 I'll give a little context.
00:07 I liked Bill very much, very much.
00:12 He was ruthless when it came to football.
00:15 The only thing he cared about was winning.
00:18 He did not care about players' feelings.
00:20 I don't believe he may have acted nice to them, but he didn't care about their feelings.
00:25 And his philosophy was, get rid of a player a year early rather than a year late.
00:31 He told everyone that.
00:33 He was on the record with that.
00:35 Get rid of a player a year early as opposed to a year late.
00:39 So let's start with offense.
00:42 I'll go one, Iggy, and then you'll go one.
00:46 I believe if Bill Walsh were alive and coaching this team, he would get rid of Debo Samuel.
00:54 And I'll say why.
00:56 You know, Iggy says that Debo's a very nice man and he's thoughtful.
01:01 He's good in the locker room.
01:02 He answers questions.
01:03 And that's lovely.
01:04 That's fine.
01:05 But his job is to really be an effective wide receiver.
01:10 He doesn't really run.
01:12 He's not a great route runner.
01:15 He doesn't really block hard when the play is not coming to him downfield.
01:20 He's turned and he doesn't have the greatest hands.
01:24 So like Iuke is a better wide receiver than Debo.
01:30 And he's turned into kind of a gimmick guy.
01:33 If you can get him a screen pass and he's so strong, he can get a few times a game.
01:38 He can get a lot of yards, although he wasn't able to do it in the Super Bowl.
01:43 But in terms of a regular wide receiver, I think he's now on the decline and he's given
01:50 the most you can get.
01:52 And I don't think you're going to get that much out of him in the future.
01:55 Better to get a draft choices for him to to to rebuild a roster that's getting a little
02:01 older and to fill his place.
02:03 Iggy, do you agree with me?
02:06 I do.
02:07 And plus, they're going to be paying him twenty eight million dollars this year.
02:09 That's what quarterbacks get.
02:11 He doesn't have that kind of an impact on the offense.
02:13 They don't really need him anymore.
02:15 Yeah, I think Bill Walsh would get rid of him.
02:18 They don't save a lot of money by trading him, but his value is going to go down.
02:23 And in a trade, they could probably get much more from this year than next year.
02:26 I would try to.
02:27 Right.
02:28 Yeah.
02:29 Bill, I'm saying I feel I don't have a pipeline to build, but I feel he would trade him.
02:34 Anyone on offense you would suggest.
02:38 I think Bill Walsh would release or trade Kyle Uschik.
02:43 I agree.
02:44 Great player, best fullback in the league, but he's definitely declining.
02:48 And you know, the Niners got rid of Tom Rathman when he was thirty one.
02:53 Uschik's about to be thirty three.
02:56 He's not the blocker he used to be.
02:58 They almost never hand him the ball.
03:00 They throw him like one pass every other game and he's going to make almost eight million
03:04 dollars this year.
03:05 I think it's time.
03:09 I 100 percent agree with you.
03:11 Again, it's not a knock on Uschik.
03:15 He's been a very good player, but he's I think he's reached his zenith and is now going down
03:21 the other side of the hill and Bill Ruthless.
03:25 He might really like the guy.
03:26 He might want to be friends with him when his career is over, but you're out.
03:30 And I'll tell you someone else.
03:31 I feel fairly confident Bill would get rid of his kiddo again.
03:35 I feel that I've never met Kittle, but I feel he's really grown up in a nice way.
03:40 I kind of like him, although we're going to talk about him a little later.
03:46 But he only had two receptions in the game for how many yards for four.
03:54 You can't have that.
03:55 You know, there are other things they might have thrown to the people and might ask them
03:59 block, blah, blah, blah.
04:01 Kelsey's better now.
04:03 It Kelsey's a more important player in their offense.
04:07 So I would say, thank you very much, George.
04:11 We're going to trade you to wherever and get again, you get draft choices.
04:16 So I would, to me, those would be the three guys on offense.
04:20 And again, you trade him a year too soon rather than a year too late.
04:24 That's the point.
04:25 That's Bill's axiom.
04:26 And it seems painful to trade George Kittle now, but the guy just had four yards and a
04:30 Superbowl.
04:31 It might be the time.
04:33 You might be a year too soon, but, or you might be approaching the too late.
04:36 If you wait, you might get nothing for this guy.
04:38 So on defense, how about easy one?
04:41 He's a free agent chase young.
04:43 They traded a third round pick for him at the deadline.
04:46 They really gloated about the trade.
04:47 Like Washington know what they were doing about doing with in general that he was going
04:51 to come here and play so well because of the culture and the, this and that, and he just
04:57 jogged around the field, loafed around a lot.
04:59 Yeah.
05:00 Can't bring him back.
05:02 Now he's a free agent, so you wouldn't be releasing him, but you wouldn't be bringing
05:05 him back.
05:06 No.
05:07 Um, I don't think he made any impact.
05:10 Maybe he did a little in the, in the Superbowl, but again, I'm going to repeat something I
05:14 said last week, a coach called me up a retired NFL coach and we were chatting and he, and
05:22 he used the adjective disgusting or how chase young played in the first two playoff games.
05:29 This was before the Superbowl.
05:30 He said, um, if I had him, I would trade his butt.
05:36 And it turns out he was the second player taken in his draft.
05:40 Yes he was.
05:41 He was supposed to be a tremendous impact player and Washington, you can say, Oh Washington
05:46 there, they're so stupid.
05:48 They couldn't wait to get rid of him.
05:50 And I dropped it.
05:51 I had a dress in Herbert.
05:52 What?
05:53 He was the second pick in the draft.
05:56 Herbert was six in that year.
05:58 Wow.
05:59 Yeah.
06:00 So I went ahead and I, you, he's not, uh, those are much better players than he is.
06:07 He's no longer an impact player.
06:10 And my guess is unless someone motivates him, you're going to see him fade out of the league.
06:15 Way premature to what you'd think may, if may I, but I mean, he was at a contract year
06:21 and the Niners were in the Superbowl.
06:23 If that doesn't motivate you, it's never going to happen.
06:26 Right?
06:27 Yeah.
06:28 So, okay.
06:29 So that's, that's, that's, I'm going to say someone else, Eric Armstead.
06:34 And here's why Iggy, when he plays, he's pretty good.
06:39 Yeah.
06:40 He's a, he's a good run stopper.
06:41 He's not particularly a quarterback Sacker, but maybe that's not his job.
06:45 He's a good run stopper.
06:47 Although they had a lot of trouble stopping the run this year, this season, but Iggy,
06:51 he gets hurt all the time.
06:53 So you know, in a 17 game season, he's going to miss games every season.
06:59 So again, for me, it's five this year and eight before that.
07:08 Previous year, eight, five this season.
07:10 That's a lot of games.
07:11 Uh, eight is half the, is really half of the season.
07:15 The other is a quarter, almost a more.
07:17 So what I'm saying is I'm thinking as bill would think, I don't want to risk it with
07:22 this guy anymore.
07:23 I want to get somebody else.
07:24 Um, I would rather get rid of him a year early than a year too late.
07:28 And what's more Iggy with him.
07:30 It may already be a year too late.
07:32 Yeah.
07:33 We've had planter fasciitis the last two seasons.
07:35 It's going to be, yeah, it might be already too late.
07:38 It may be already too late.
07:39 So me, if, if I'm the theoretical bill and bill, I know I'm not the theoretical you,
07:47 um, I'm, I'm conjecturing that he would get rid of Eric Armstead.
07:53 Anybody else on defense Iggy?
07:57 Not on defense.
07:58 Okay.
07:59 I'll go special teams though.
08:01 Yeah.
08:02 Jake Moody.
08:03 Oh, I'm sorry.
08:05 Like he may have a bright future in the NFL, but somewhere else he is, he inspires no confidence
08:11 and you need like a constant at some, someplace on your team.
08:15 That would be a good spot kicker.
08:16 You don't need to worry about him missing extra points in playoff games.
08:19 He missed a kick in every single playoff game.
08:22 Every single game, every single one.
08:24 Yeah.
08:25 I know what would happen is bill would talk about him.
08:28 Moody says, yeah, we really like him.
08:31 We had to get rid of him, but we wish him luck.
08:35 But behind the scenes, he would tell his coaches, get this guy the hell out of here.
08:38 I need a kicker.
08:39 I don't need anxiety.
08:41 I need a kicker I can believe in.
08:43 And that's how he would talk about him.
08:45 You know, not in the public, get him the hell out of here.
08:49 In 94, the niners had a rookie kicker on their super bowl championship team.
08:55 Doug Brian, they drafted him in the third round, a lot like Jake Moody.
08:59 He wasn't good.
09:01 And midway through 95, they got rid of him and he spent most of his career in new Orleans.
09:05 So no patience.
09:07 Sorry.
09:08 This is a really, really good team.
09:09 If you can't rise to the occasion, go play for new Orleans.
09:12 They're not playing for anything.
09:13 They'll love you.
09:16 You know, I remember one time I was with bill in the Stanford athletic department and his
09:22 kicker with some of the super bowl Kings with teams was Ray Worshing.
09:28 And I don't know the whole history.
09:29 I've never really looked it up, but bill and I were in his office chatting and then he
09:33 got a phone call and he said, low, excuse me, I have to go into the conference room.
09:38 And he came back 20 minutes later.
09:40 And what happened?
09:41 He said, Ray Worshing, I guess bill had gotten rid of them years before, but you know, when
09:45 he was at the niners and he said, Ray came up, he was so angry at me.
09:50 Well, he's still angry.
09:51 And I had to sit in, let him vent on me and to say it wasn't personal.
09:57 And I, I didn't witness it.
09:58 I was in the other room, but bill exited, came back and he was shaken.
10:03 He was shaken, but he, but he made his head.
10:05 He did.
10:06 He didn't say I made the wrong decision.
10:07 He said, I didn't like him to be so angry at me.
10:12 I got one more person that can't be back on this team.
10:16 Ray Ray McLeod.
10:18 Tell me.
10:19 I mean, the one mistake he made in the super bowl, he didn't fall on the ball.
10:24 It wasn't his fumble.
10:25 It hit Darrell lunar jr's foot, unfortunate.
10:28 And he made a split second decision to try to scoop it up and run with it instead of
10:32 falling on it.
10:33 Sorry.
10:34 That's a critical decision.
10:35 You're the punt returner.
10:36 They need a new punt returner.
10:38 Can't have him on the team.
10:40 Bill always, I was in team meetings with him and he would say, if the ball goes on, is
10:45 bouncing, don't pick it up and advance it.
10:48 Fall on it.
10:49 Iggy.
10:50 He said it before every game.
10:52 He was so obsessed with that.
10:54 So he broke a bill rule.
10:56 Bill would have gotten rid of him.
10:58 And I want to tell you who else bill would have gotten rid of.
11:00 Feliciano.
11:01 Yeah, I agree.
11:03 Because you don't bad mouth a teammate publicly bit.
11:08 That would have been a no, no for bill.
11:11 We're a team and you don't go after Burford.
11:15 That's who he went after.
11:16 Right?
11:17 Yes.
11:18 You either keep your mouth shut or you handle it privately.
11:20 You don't make it to seem like we're disunited.
11:24 Bill would say, get his butt out of here.
11:26 Send him to Buffalo.
11:27 That's what he would have said.
11:29 Yeah, I agree.
11:31 So those, those would be the ones that bill would get rid of.
11:34 [MUSIC PLAYING]
11:37 (upbeat music)
