Alex Donno and Bruce Warner discuss the expectations and the pressure for Cam Ward at Miami next season.
Transcript
00:00 I definitely feel Bruce and based on what I'm getting to know about his personality so far,
00:04 I think he's definitely up for this. Cam Ward obviously has a lot of pressure because there's
00:11 this and I think it's a little unfair, but there's kind of a savior narrative being created around him
00:17 given all the hype in the off season and him choosing Miami over the NFL. But I think there's
00:22 definitely a lot of pressure on Cam Ward. I think there's pressure for different reasons.
00:26 He's my number one. He's got the most pressure.
00:32 Well, talk about him and talk about who else is on your list because I see you have handwritten
00:35 notes which is very impressive to me how prepared you are today.
00:38 Listen, I said to you a few minutes ago, who has the most pressure? Every single one of them.
00:44 Every one of those players has pressure. You just can't discount any of them and say
00:49 they're a non-issue. They all have to be able to step up. They all have to do their job. Every
00:54 one of them's got pressure because I think this is a pressure year for Mario, not in terms of being
01:00 fired, but it's 12 and 13. Let's see how much of this was on Tyler Van Dyke. Let's see how much of
01:09 this was on the offensive coordinator, Shannon Dawson. Let's see how much this was on Mario for
01:15 lack of preparation, forgetting the knee part. The second half of North Carolina where we just laid
01:20 an egg. After playing a great first half, we went into the tank because they had a hurry up offense
01:26 and we were not prepared. There's a lot of things and a lot of people with pressure. I throw the
01:31 pressure on every single one of them, all the coaches and every damn player because there's
01:35 still a lot of wide open positions. Now, if you need me to talk about who has a lot of pressure,
01:41 I don't know if it's the word pressure so much, but opportunities is important too.
01:47 Like I mentioned a few minutes ago, to me, Ahmed Moten has a fabulous opportunity.
01:53 I don't talk about him enough. I'm so glad you bring him up. I mean, he, he, cause he looks the
01:57 part like a mod. Looks like somebody who should be on all ACC or all American defense.
02:03 He's got the build of Cortez. He's six, three, 300, 300 and something pounds. And he looks like
02:09 a run stuffer and he's gotten it a few times and he's been here. This is third season with this
02:14 system. He knows what's going on. I don't know how good he is. I don't know how hard he works.
02:19 I don't, but he has the chance to have an, he could be a three-year starter on his team. If he
02:25 steps up and look, you got Josh Horton, who's behind him. Obviously you've got Harrison hunt,
02:32 who's played a lot, but he doesn't have the build to be a D tackle run stuffer. So I look at Moten
02:39 as a guy who could be someone with a, well, I'm not saying he could, he has a fabulous opportunity
02:45 to become not only a good college player, but make it in the NFL. He's got the build.
02:50 Yeah. And, and about some other players that I feel have, have pressure. And a lot of this,
02:56 I put it because in some cases they are asked to, you know, spill the shoes of starters who are
03:02 no longer on the team or, or opportunities, like you said, to become more featured in the
03:07 rotations or in the starting lineups. Again, I feel good about the way that Cam Ward is handling
03:12 his situation so far. I talked about him the other day that he's, he's always in the building.
03:17 He's conducting himself like a professional. He's getting to know his teammates. I can see
03:22 the leadership that he's putting out there. I'll tell you, Bruce, are you worried? No, I'm not.
03:26 I'm not worried about him to be good. And that's the end of it.
