00:00 In recent years we have seen more and more storms during the autumn and winter, and since
00:05 2015 the UK, following the lead of America, has named these storms.
00:10 A named storm is anything that could lead to an amber weather warning being issued by
00:14 the Met Office, and this predicts there is an increased likelihood of impacts from severe
00:19 weather which could potentially disrupt your plans.
00:22 This means there is a possibility of travel delays, road and rail closures, power cuts
00:27 and the potential risk to life and property.
00:30 The idea is that naming a storm and its arrival time gains more attention and makes it easier
00:35 for the public to grasp.
00:37 And so this year we have been battered by Babette, deluged by Debbie, and in some places
00:42 flattened by Fergus.
00:43 Here are the storms that have hit the UK so far this storm season, starting with Agnes
00:49 in September.
