00:00Most of us look forward to next season's highlights when it comes to sporting events
00:05as well as different TV series. But the Met Office have released next season's
00:12storm names. Yes there's a whole list of names and interestingly this year with Storm Lillian
00:19recently being the 12th storm in the season, it's the first time we've reached the letter L.
00:26When it comes to naming the storms that are set to batter the UK next year, the Met Office has
00:33actually used famous meteorologists to inspire their choosing of the names. Among the names
00:40we've got group captain James Stagg, the meteorologist who advised on the weather
00:45forecast for the D-Day landings. Storm Lewis is named after Lewis Fry Richardson,
00:52the meteorologist who developed modern mathematical techniques of weather forecasting.
00:57While Mavis Hines who pioneered the use of computers in UK meteorology has had Storm Mavis
01:04named after her. The reason the Met Office have decided to choose special names for next season
01:11the 2024 to 2025 which they release every year in autumn is to mark the 170th anniversary of
01:20the Met Office being established and they've been naming storms since 2015.
