DOST-PCAARRD introduces initiatives for agri sector amid El Niño

00:00 The dry spell and drought inducing effects of El Nino continues to visit misery and malady to farmers and agricultural workers and stakeholders.
00:08 Hence the DOSD is stepping up to the plate by providing innovative and technological solutions in irrigation to mitigate the damage and devastation of El Nino.
00:17 One in particular entails automated furrow irrigation and bio-fertilizer application that Armando Las Mueres dwells on in this report.
00:28 During the scientific ocular visit of several officials and staff of the House of Representatives to the office of the DOSD,
00:35 Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development or PICARD,
00:41 the agency introduced and showcased its programs and projects which are truly beneficial to our countrymen,
00:47 particularly their initiatives for the agriculture sector amid the threats of El Nino.
00:53 No less than the President recently ordered a whole of government approach on this occurrence.
00:58 According to DOSD PICARD Executive Director Reynaldo Ebora,
01:02 "Science and technology are crucial in addressing various challenges in the society."
01:07 In their exhibit, they showcase some of their projects in collaboration with several universities, institutions and companies.
01:14 For one, here's the Water Advisory for Irrigation Scheduling System or WAIS project,
01:20 which is truly helpful in addressing El Nino as it alerts the farmers if the lands are already drying up or having excess water for immediate action.
01:29 Another El Nino helpful project is the newly launched pilot testing of Automated Furrow Irrigation System and Bio-Fertilizer Application to Low-Yielding Block Farms,
01:40 which also focused on efficient irrigation measures.
01:44 But wait, there's more! Like this tilapia ice cream which is created to further expand the tilapia industry and help the fishermen.
01:51 Meanwhile, this is the ASF Rapid Test Kit which acts like a COVID antigen test.
01:57 In a matter of minutes, one can know if the swan is infected with ASF or not.
