00:00 The Persian New Year Festival is returning to Scottsdale and this year
00:04 they are celebrating with the Desert Dreams fashion show. Here to tell us all
00:09 about it is Ladan, Tiffany and Masa. Welcome ladies, thank you for being here.
00:13 Okay so Ladan, I'm gonna start with you because you are the CEO of the
00:17 festival, is that correct? Persian New Year Festival, yes. So tell me a little
00:20 bit about what people can experience when they come out. They can experience
00:23 the best parts of our culture. They can see our dance, our music, our food and all
00:27 the arts that comes along with that. And this year we have four events. Our kickoff
00:32 is the fashion show and I know that's why we're here tonight. Yes, that's very
00:36 exciting. So I do have another quick question. I just am wondering, there's a
00:40 lot of green here. Is green significant? Yes, this is the color of our festival.
00:44 It's a very important color for us. It brings in the spring which is what New
00:48 Year is. We celebrate the first day of spring. Oh I love it. Okay, that's
00:51 fantastic. All right, well Masa let's go to you because you are the producer of
00:55 the fashion show, is that correct? Yes. Great, well tell me a little bit about it,
00:59 what people can see and also the significance of the name. Sure, well we
01:04 are actually, the fashion show is going to be at Western Spirit Museum and we
01:09 decided to kind of mix a Persian glamour and Southwest chic. So and that's why we
01:16 came up with the Desert Dream name. What we are going to do is to introduce five
01:22 designers, two Iranian designers and three local designers and I have my
01:29 first model. Okay, yeah well why don't we go ahead and get into our models because we have some
01:32 incredible models here today. So ladies let's all take a little bit of a step
01:35 back here so the models can be front and center and we will have our first model
01:38 come out. Masa, please tell us what she has on today. So Farah is our first
01:43 model and she is wearing Sadaf Yeganeju. She is a fierce and incredibly
01:50 talented Iranian designer and what I love about her design is that she uses
01:56 sustainable materials and also uses literature as you can see on her designs
02:01 and what I love really about it is that she kind of plays with the letters and
02:09 instead of putting everything in a very traditional way, she actually put all the
02:16 letters and alphabets on the garments. You kind of have to guess a little bit
02:21 like what it is but on her dress here it says Lalifam and that means red
02:28 lipstick and the mask. I was just going to ask what is the significance of the mask? It's so much to talk about the mask but in very you know in a brief
02:40 description this is actually a bird. It's a legendary bird. It's a mystical
02:45 bird of Iran and which is you know significant in our culture. That's very
02:52 beautiful. All right well that is gorgeous. Thank you so much. I did not
02:54 know that those were letters or that that was literature there. Thank you for
02:58 explaining that. Thank you to our first model. Let's go ahead and bring our
03:01 second model out and Tiffany you are one of the designers so please walk us
03:06 through what your model here is wearing. Yeah absolutely. So this is one of my
03:11 shoulder crown designs that she's wearing. She has it styled with her
03:16 garment today but yeah I focus and because I'm an artist at heart so I
03:23 create wearable art and pieces and accessories and that people can wear
03:27 when they really want to spice it up and but yeah it's really lovely. So I've got
03:32 in the show I'll have pieces such as this but then also full-on dresses so
03:38 you'll be able to see the spectrum whether it's more accessory driven to
03:41 full-on you know Met Gala type of outfit. So it's really exciting. It's very cool
03:47 that you called it wearable art. So actually I'm gonna ask our model if she
03:50 can turn around to do a little circle for us so we can see the entire piece
03:53 because this is very unique and it's absolutely stunning of course. So this
03:57 will be something very exciting to see. So I'll go ahead and have you stand back
04:00 with our other model and then ladies I do want to hear a little bit more about
04:04 the events. What else can people experience when they come out other than
04:07 these gorgeous fashions? So we start off the fashion show on February 28th and we
04:11 go into a play the following evening a composition by Ehsan Maturi which we
04:15 will have the sounds of the santur which is a very important instrument in the
04:20 Iranian culture. Then we go into the festival itself where not only will you
04:24 have an ability to purchase some of these items yeah but you will also have
04:30 a boutique there where our designers will have their pieces there so you can
04:33 see it interact with it you know just to experience it a little bit more but not
04:37 to mention the entire day is filled with music and food we've got Andy which is a
04:42 huge huge pop singer coming out from Los Angeles who will be on stage. It's a day
04:47 to remember. We've got magical art pieces we have three major new sculptures coming
04:52 into our festival this year and it's we're gonna please them. It sounds like
04:57 an incredible celebration from the fashion to the food to the music a real
05:02 celebration of the culture this is so beautiful so Ladan I'll have you tell
05:05 everybody where they can find more information and come out to celebrate
05:08 with you. Go to our website Persian New Year festival org we are a nonprofit and
05:14 by the way we do support students supporting brain tumor research so at
05:18 the end of our festival we do go ahead and donate to that local charity as well
05:22 we're a nonprofit but we like to give back to our community. That's very very
05:26 cool well ladies thank you all for being here this was such a treat to see these
05:29 gorgeous fashions and you can see these and more if you come out to the Persian
05:34 New Year festival.
