Tropical Cyclone Lincoln expected to impact northern WA as a much weaker weather system

Authorities are preparing for towns to be isolated by floodwaters as ex-tropical cyclone Lincoln develops off WA's northwest coast. The system is expected to cross the Gascoyne coast and is forecast to weaken as it moves inland. While some are celebrating long awaited rain, others are battening down for damaging winds. One Exmouth family has decided to move into their unfinished home, with no electricity or water, to stay safe.

00:00 It's not the moving day the Martins envisioned for their dream home in Exmouth, but it's
00:07 better than the alternative.
00:10 Which isn't quite liveable at the moment, no power, no water, so we'll be camping, going
00:14 from camping in the van to camping in a house with not much. I've got three kids who are
00:20 feeling a little bit more scared than what I am right now, but hopefully it'll be alright.
00:25 Dan, you can do it.
00:27 He's feeling scared because it's really big. A big storm and it might be a little bit of
00:34 damage to our house.
00:36 Ex-tropical cyclone Lincoln will be the family's first cyclone.
00:40 I feel like I've over-prepared really, so I think it will be fine. If it comes out what
00:46 it's forecast to be, it shouldn't be a drama.
00:49 Clouds have been rolling in along with the first drops of rain, which parts of the north-west
00:54 haven't seen in months.
00:56 Finally, we've got rain.
00:58 We haven't had rain for ages. I didn't know what it was on my windscreen for a while there.
01:03 I had to clean it off, but we're anticipating to get a fair bit of rain out of this system.
01:09 Flash flooding is possible near the track of the system over the weekend, and a general
01:14 increase in rainfall is expected across western and southern parts of the state.
01:19 The forecast cyclone is weaker than initially expected, but authorities are still on high
01:24 alert with short bursts of intense rainfall likely to cut off roads at floodways along
01:30 the coast as the system bears down on the north-west.
