00:08 At present, almost 300 patients are in line for organ transplant here in the country.

00:17 For those who have a bad feeling, particularly those who have a bruise on their chest, jaw and liver,
00:23 the organ transplant is expected to be done to heal their life.
00:28 But the National Kidney and Transplant Institute, or NKTI,
00:33 says that organ donors are not enough in the country.
00:36 According to the Department of Health, as of February 2024,
00:41 almost 300 patients are in line for transplant.
00:45 Most are waiting for a new kidney.
00:48 Chronic kidney disease, or CKD, is also one of the leading deadly diseases in the country.
00:55 Data estimated shows that around 2.3 million Filipinos have CKD.
01:00 Michael is 33 years old when he was diagnosed with CKD.
01:05 He has been suffering from it for five years.
01:07 My back hurts.
01:09 Until we got a check-up, we found out that my kidney was broken.
01:16 He is on dialysis three times a week.
01:21 The medicines for dialysis are very expensive.
01:24 He is also hoping to have a donor someday.
01:28 Organ transplant is also expensive.
01:30 It can reach up to 1.2 to 1.7 million pesos, according to the DOH.
01:36 But the government can help lower the cost.
01:40 We have this Feel Healthy package wherein the patient is entitled to receive 600,000 pesos.
01:49 We will bring them to our Malasakit Center and Social Service to lower their bills.
01:55 In addition to the DOH, they have been distributed cards to expand the public's knowledge about transplant.
02:03 The donor must go through a complete screening.
