00:00 Microsoft announced they will open up access to its artificial intelligence models to allow
00:09 countries to build their own AI economies.
00:15 The announcement happened during the first day of the GSMA Mobile World Congress in Barcelona,
00:22 the world`s leading mobile technology event.
00:25 So people rightly ask, how is this going to be made available to others?
00:30 What rules are you going to use Microsoft to govern?
00:33 And so what we've said, what we're launching here at Barcelona, Mobile World Congress,
00:40 is a set of AI access principles.
00:41 Fundamentally, it says, we are not just building this for ourselves.
00:45 We are making it accessible for companies around the world to use so that they can invest
00:52 in their own AI inventions.
00:54 I think it's extremely important because we're investing enormous amounts of money, frankly,
00:59 more than any government on the planet, to build out the AI data centers so that in every
01:04 country people can use this technology, they can create their AI software, their applications,
01:11 they can use them for companies, for consumer services and the like.
01:15 If you're open sourcing your AI models, obviously, people could use them for that, for negative
01:23 services.
01:24 And so I guess the big question is, how do we protect against negative use of AI without
01:28 inhibiting innovation?
01:30 I think our purpose is, in this era of time, hopefully to create technology that is going
01:37 to help the world solve the problems we need to solve, say whether we're talking about
01:41 climate change or the protection of democracy.
01:46 And we're also helping the world navigate through a fundamental technological evolution
01:52 and maybe even revolution, especially when we think about the world of artificial intelligence.
01:57 The second thing we have to do and what we are doing is using AI to detect the harmful
02:03 uses of AI and to work hard to thwart it or disrupt it.
02:08 And I think that is equally important, using AI as a defensive shield, even if someone
02:13 else wants to use it as a sword.
02:15 Over 95,000 attendees, 2,400 exhibitors and over 1,000 speakers are expected at the event
02:22 in Barcelona, which will take place until February 29.
