00:00 Arriving at Melbourne Airport will soon look very different.
00:06 This is a road project that will transform the way that people come to and from the airport.
00:11 By the end of 2026, a new overpass will connect the Tullamarine Freeway directly to pick up and drop off zones in the airport's multi-storey car park,
00:20 which will be linked to terminals through new pedestrian bridges.
00:24 Once built, Melbourne Airport says it'll help cut congestion by taking 70,000 cars off airport drive each day.
00:31 But it's come at a cost.
00:33 We're removing about 500 car parks. This is in our value car park.
00:38 Then permanently in the terminal space, we'll be removing about 1,500 car parks permanently.
00:45 With the Easter holidays just around the corner, travellers have been urged to plan ahead.
00:50 What we're saying to passengers is we've got plenty of parks, but it would pay to book online.
00:55 But the expected disruptions have also put the spotlight back on the long-awaited airport rail project
01:01 and the stalled negotiations between Melbourne Airport and the state government.
01:05 The reality is that there wouldn't be a train there now because of the timing involved in this project.
01:11 The Commonwealth have indicated they'll appoint a mediator and we await the appointment of that person.
01:15 Today the Transport Infrastructure Minister was announcing disruptions of his own as testing continues on the Metro Tunnel.
01:22 There will be bus services replacing trains on the Sunbury, Cranbourne, Pakenham and Gippsland lines.
01:29 Drivers using the Westgate Freeway will also face delays due to asphalting,
01:34 while work is also underway on another 16 level crossing removals,
01:38 making for busy and potentially frustrating times ahead for commuters.
