00:00 Branding, sex trafficking, numerous accusations of horrific abuse.
00:05 NXIVM cult leader Keith Ranieri is now serving 120 years in prison for his barbaric crimes.
00:11 But it wasn't just Keith who betrayed vulnerable women and girls seeking self-improvement.
00:16 His top slave masters, including Smallville actress Allison Mack, are now serving time
00:20 as well.
00:21 Today, one of the Jane Doe's responsible for taking down NXIVM is here revealing her full
00:26 shocking story.
00:28 The why she says Allison Mack is a monster.
00:31 They were stalking me.
00:33 They hunted me like an animal.
00:35 You kind of enter into this really strange world of constant criticism and feedback.
00:40 They would ask you for anything that would damage your reputation, that would hurt the
00:44 people that you love if it was exposed.
00:47 So when I saw that, my whole world collapsed.
00:52 Because that was the moment that I knew just how messed up this whole thing was.
00:57 And that I had Keith Ranieri's initials on my body.
01:01 Over the years, we've had many brave NXIVM survivors on the show, recounting the evils
01:06 they suffered at the hands of convicted sex trafficker Keith Ranieri and his top lieutenants
01:12 at his so-called self-improvement organization.
01:15 Ranieri appointed actress Allison Mack as one of his chief recruiters who lured unsuspecting
01:21 women into an offshoot of NXIVM, a secret sex cult called DOS.
01:27 Presented as a female empowerment group, it was really controlled by Ranieri behind the
01:31 scenes.
01:32 Mack groomed the women to be sex slaves and collected embarrassing information to be used
01:37 against them as collateral.
01:39 She helped oversee DOS members being blackmailed, made to follow a stringent 500 calorie daily
01:45 diet, pressured to have sex with Ranieri, and having their skin branded with his initials.
01:52 She even admitted to being the mastermind behind the branding ritual, which she discussed
01:57 with Ranieri in this chilling recording.
01:59 You think the person who's being branded should be completely nude and sort of held to the
02:06 table like a, sort of almost like a sacrifice?
02:09 I don't know if that's a feeling of submission.
02:14 Mack was charged with sex trafficking, sex trafficking conspiracy, and forced labor
02:19 conspiracy.
02:20 But after cooperating with the government, she pleaded guilty to charges of racketeering
02:24 and racketeering conspiracy in 2019 and received just three years.
02:30 The 39-year-old recently reported for her sentence at a low security prison near San
02:35 Francisco.
02:36 Among the many courageous women who came forward to bring down Ranieri and Mack is Jane Doe
02:42 number two, who's here today revealing her full story to us.
02:49 Jane Doe number two's real name is Jessica Joan.
02:52 She's also the author of the new book, The Untouchable, Jessica Joan, and she joins us
02:57 now.
02:58 Thank you for being here.
02:59 I do want to take a look.
03:00 I look at the book, but also I took a lot of your effort to get Keith Ranieri brought
03:05 to justice.
03:06 How did you first join the cult?
03:09 So I first got involved because a friend introduced me to a presentation at her house, which is
03:14 where I learned about NXIVM.
03:16 So as we just showed in that piece, I've spoken to quite a few women who were brought in with
03:21 this approach.
03:22 India and Catherine Oxenberg were on the show last year talking about India's descent into
03:25 NXIVM and her eventual escape.
03:28 And I was moved by her deep regret over bringing anyone else into the cult, because that was
03:32 part of what was happening.
03:33 You were sort of passing it on.
03:34 Now Jessica says shortly after joining NXIVM, India invited her to join a secret subgroup
03:38 called DOS.
03:41 Now you picked an interesting moniker for this.
03:42 You called it the Lady Fight Club after the iconic movie.
03:47 What was it actually like inside of this DOS subcult?
03:51 So how it was promoted to me and sold to me was that it was this woman's only empowerment
03:57 program, a mentorship program to be these powerful versions of yourself.
04:02 And so at first it was really innocent, but as time went on, it became more nefarious.
04:09 So we now know that DOS actually wasn't only a woman's only group.
04:12 You know that as well.
04:13 You helped prove it.
04:14 When Jessica was in the cult, she was considered one of India's slaves.
04:17 Let me explain this with this graph.
04:18 So India is there, you know, above Jessica.
04:22 Then you have above her another master, Alison Mack.
04:27 So it's a hierarchy.
04:29 And then above Alison and all the other top level masters was Keith Ranieri, who's also
04:34 called Vanguard.
04:36 Do you think in retrospect that they were trying to groom you?
04:39 Yes.
04:40 Now I understand that they were.
04:42 How would they do that?
04:44 So a lot of it was gaining trust.
04:45 So what predators do is they want to build a sense of trust.
04:49 I'm very familiar with this.
04:51 And so, you know, with Keith, he used women like India, like Alison, to build the sense
04:57 of trust and then slowly but surely having secrets and things that they could hold over
05:03 you to have control and be able to manipulate you.
05:06 My goodness.
05:08 So at the trial, you testified about a volleyball game.
05:12 But something happened after one of the games that you mentioned at trial that I'd love
05:15 you to share with the audience.
05:18 I don't want to talk, have you talk about things that would trigger you, but I know
05:20 that it was an important moment.
05:23 Absolutely.
05:24 And I think it's important for people to understand this in order to protect themselves.
05:28 And so because in my childhood I had experienced sexual abuse and trauma and had dealt with
05:34 predators, there's...
05:35 Absolutely.
05:36 Thank you.
05:37 There's a sense of, like a sixth sense that you develop, right?
05:42 Your space and if they're just little triggers and little clues.
05:46 And so one of the things that he did after volleyball, we were conversing with a group
05:51 of people and we were all just chatting and out of what seemed nowhere, he had his finger
06:00 and I was wearing a giant parka, so it was very subtle, but he drew a little circle in
06:07 my abdomen area.
06:08 And he didn't even look at me, he was still conversing.
06:12 So it was very strange.
06:13 I just felt my personal space being invaded and it was just subtle enough to where it
06:20 was predatory, where it was sending a little signal.
06:25 Some woman in DOS were forced to get a brand with Keith's initials and they were even sexually
06:30 assaulted by him.
06:32 Did you know about these brands?
06:34 Was there ever an overture to you to be intimately involved with Keith Ranieri?
06:41 So the reason why I actually left and when I saw that this was not what I signed up for
06:46 was when Allison gave me this special assignment and the special assignment was to seduce Keith
06:52 and have him take a naked photo of me.
06:56 What was the reason she gave you for wanting that to happen?
07:00 That's a great question.
07:01 That's what I asked her.
07:02 I said, "I don't understand.
07:03 What's the point of this assignment?
07:05 This is weird."
07:07 And she said that if I had done this assignment, it would get rid of all of my issues surrounding
07:13 having been sexually abused.
07:15 And the thing that was so menacing was after she gave me that assignment, which it was
07:20 as if my whole world had crumbled, everything I thought that I signed up for, all of the
07:25 betrayal, even just like my ego going through a whole roller coaster.
07:31 When she ended the phone call, she said, "And I give you permission to enjoy it."
07:40 To enjoy what?
07:41 The special assignment.
07:42 Oh my goodness.
07:43 Yeah, knowing that as a little girl I had been abused, knowing that this would absolutely
07:50 traumatize me, but had the sinister thing to say.
07:54 I'm sorry you went through that.
07:58 These are details that have not been discussed, at least with me, in the past.
08:01 All right, coming up, Jessica reveals what she says it was like to stare into Allison
08:05 Mack's dead eyes.
08:07 I'm back with NextSeam survivor Jessica Jones, who testified against cult leader Keith Renneri
08:11 at his trial.
08:12 Jessica has called Smallville star Allison Mack, the Ghislaine Maxwell, to Keith's Jeffrey
08:17 Epstein.
08:18 Has she ever apologized to you for all she put you through?
08:22 No, she didn't.
08:23 She was very manipulative and very emotionally abusive.
08:29 She was very unkind and menacing.
08:32 And the only time that she offered an apology was right before her sentencing, which she
08:36 was aware I was going to be giving a statement, and wrote a very empty-hearted letter.
08:43 Explain to me how you saw that letter, and what it meant to you about her ability to
08:47 emotionally connect with anybody.
08:48 I mean, if she can't apologize to you, what she really needs to apologize to you.
08:53 What does it say about her?
08:54 Well, I mean, I said it in my victim impact statement.
08:57 I believe she's a sociopath and a narcissist.
09:01 And when I read the letter, there was no feeling in it.
09:03 It was just, "Oh, I'm so sorry that I put you through this.
09:07 This was all of Keith's beliefs that I fell for."
09:12 And when I saw her, and I gave my impact statement at her sentencing, I looked into her eyes,
09:18 and I was hoping there was going to be another person on the other end, and it was just blank.
09:23 It was just nothing.
09:24 Dead inside.
09:25 Yes, absolutely.
09:26 So, Allison Mack pleaded guilty to racketeering conspiracy and racketeering charges.
09:32 She recently began a three-year prison sentence, and some have pointed out that in some ways,
09:37 she was also a victim of Keith Ranieri.
09:40 Do you think that's true?
09:41 Do you think that he manipulated her like she manipulated you?
09:44 And what do you think about that sentence, the three years?
09:47 So I believe that everyone was a victim of Keith.
09:51 It's pretty obvious, Allison included.
09:53 However, that doesn't take away from the personal responsibility and the choices that she decided
09:58 to make.
09:59 And I do feel that she had a sense of an enjoyment having power over all of us.
10:05 As far as her sentencing goes, I respect the judge's decision, but I don't feel that that
10:11 amount of time equates to the damage that she's done.
10:15 This damage will last people their whole lifetimes.
10:17 It's interesting, because you've highlighted it several times in the book that you're not
10:23 a victim, you're a survivor.
10:25 So what has NXIVM taught you about surviving?
10:28 Something good must have come from it, because you've sealed yourself.
10:32 Yes.
10:33 So the funny thing is what I was looking for in NXIVM and enlightenment and healing these
10:40 traumas, I gained from it, but not in the way that you think.
10:44 It's because I went through it and fortified myself and was under the fire that I was able
10:50 to come out on the other side the way that I have.
10:53 And the thing is, this might sound pretty, like, not crazy.
10:58 I don't know the word for it, but the whole thing with NXIVM is small potatoes compared
11:04 to what I went through in my childhood and in my upbringing.
11:07 Oh my goodness.
11:08 Well, you're a strong woman.
11:10 Thank you.
11:11 Thank you for standing up and being counted.
11:13 Her book is called The Untouchable, Jessica Joan.
