00:00 Two years after Russia`s full-scale invasion, thousands of demonstrators gathered in solidarity
00:06 with Ukraine and Berlin. Ukrainians in Germany spoke about how the West is easing out on
00:11 the war and of their own struggles as refugees.
00:15 I think that we still don`t understand what Russian imperialism is and that we still have
00:22 an imperial war here. That Russia won`t stop when we negotiate. That a ceasefire, no end
00:30 of the war means. That means that diplomatic negotiations in this status of war are of
00:35 no use. Russia won`t stop. And if we make any concessions to Russia in Ukraine, then
00:41 Ukraine will either attack again or other countries.
00:45 For many Ukrainians, it will take decades to rebuild their lives even after the war
00:49 ends.
00:50 I have two younger nephews. The older one is 13 years old now. And if the war doesn`t
00:57 end, then we will go to the army and fight. And that`s why for me it`s a question of our
01:04 Ukrainian identity and existence.
01:07 Berlin has also become a refuge for Russian dissidents. For them, staying in Russia was
01:11 no longer an option.
01:13 I came to Germany in May 2022 for a simple reason. I was politically persecuted in Russia.
01:24 On February 24th, I organized a demonstration against Putin`s attack in Ukraine. And as a
01:31 result, I was arrested.
01:38 Androsov was tortured by police.
01:40 I am convinced that as long as the Russian occupiers are not expelled from Ukraine, there
01:47 is no end to this war.
01:53 Ukrainian refugees and Russian dissidents might be safe in Berlin, but the war is always
01:59 on their mind.
