We took a trip to Sheffield Ski Village to see how this once major tourist attraction looks today.
Transcript
00:00 The ski village was once one of Sheffield's best attractions. People would come here from all over the north.
00:06 Times have changed and now it's completely overgrown and derelict.
00:11 Sheffield City Council signed a development called Xtreme who were going to redevelop the ski village and spend millions.
00:19 But they were sacked in 2021 for being too slow.
00:23 The original ski village had two main downhill slopes and the baby slopes which remains of you can see here.
00:33 Everyone agrees the ski village is in an amazing position here.
00:37 Incredible views across the city, fantastic slopes and just really easy access.
00:43 But there is a problem and that is the approach through a one lane railway tunnel.

01:06 After the council sacked Xtreme they budded up with a New Zealand company called Skyline.
01:11 A specialist in sledges on concrete shoots courses. A little bit like the one you see here that the ski village used to have.
01:20 Skyline was also going to create mountain bike tracks and a host of other zip wires and a host of other attractions.
01:27 But there has been no announcement since last year.
01:30 Since then the firm has signed up with Swansea to do a £30 million development there.
01:35 As the ski village closed it was hit by a series of fires. The matting proved quite flammable and well this is the state of it today.

01:57 So as you can see the site has largely gone back to nature.
02:00 In the time we have been here we have come across a few walkers who like to wander around and appreciate the natural environment and the wildlife that we keep seeing flying over especially.
02:11 There is going to be hundreds if not thousands of people living in new flats which are planned down in Neepsend not least at Cannon Brewery.
02:19 So in some ways the pressure is on Sheffield City Council to come up with a plan and put it into practice.
