00:00 >> Can you talk a little bit about Will Rogers entering the portal and
00:03 just the process of recruiting him back and if you had a prior knowledge of him?
00:09 >> Yeah, with Will, we played against him twice when we were at Arizona.
00:15 We played him in 2022, we played him in 2023.
00:19 So there was some familiarity in the player, not the person.
00:23 I didn't know him really well in that regard.
00:26 I obviously saw his production and we as a staff were able to quickly notice that
00:31 there was somebody that had 12,000 yards in the SEC in 1900 attempts and
00:36 immediately you want to take notice.
00:39 He went in the portal because I think he wanted to see A, what his options were and
00:42 B, what our options were.
00:44 Were we looking to bring in a veteran quarterback or
00:48 someone that most recently has been a starter?
00:50 Or were we comfortable bringing in just a young guy that signed with us but
00:56 didn't play yet and in demand?
00:59 So when Will saw what our plan was, we were able to share with Will,
01:04 if you look at the track record of our staff, when we were at UCLA in 2017,
01:09 we were the third ranked passing team in the country.
01:11 When you look at the same staff went to Arizona in 22,
01:14 we were the sixth ranked passing team in the country.
01:17 And last year we were the eighth ranked passing team in the country and
01:20 all three of them were three different quarterbacks.
01:22 And in the middle of that we were at the Rams where we're the number one ranked
01:27 passing team in the NFL.
01:28 So I shared that with Will, I showed him what we would do with him.
01:33 And at that point in time we spoke with his family, his parents.
01:38 Coach Doherty had a lot of conversations with his dad who's a high school coach.
01:42 And we all came to the conclusion that this would be a great opportunity for
01:45 him to stay and build his resume up.
