How often do you try out a new recipe at breakfast time? It's long been heralded as the most important meal of the day but research shows a whopping third of us skip the meal altogether. Whether it's down to lack of time or creativity, we caught up with Michelin-Trained Chef Poppy O'Toole to give us some much-needed inspiration.

00:00 "If you want to go for it a little bit more, try making things, so dinner's exciting, people
00:09 want to have new and exciting things for dinner, why can't you add that into breakfast? Why
00:14 can't you add more flavour into it?"
00:16 What's your go-to breakfast? Researchers found that the current top five most common breakfasts
00:22 included cereal, toast and porridge, but a simple cup of tea or coffee ranked third and
00:27 fifth most popular respectively. Michelin-trained chef Poppy O'Toole has now teamed up with
00:32 Alpro to launch the UK's first plant-based breakfast tasting menu. The innovative five-course
00:38 breakfast has been created to help Brits reinvigorate their morning meal.
00:42 "It should be a celebration of waking up and having a lovely day, having the same thing
00:48 over and over again. And I admit, sometimes I get into my toast era, which is fine, but
00:54 it can be so much more exciting. There can be so many more twists and taste sensations."
01:00 "Yeah, you've got to mix it up this morning, I will admit, this isn't planned. I had a
01:06 banana bread this morning that I baked myself. I had some bananas left over, I'm back in
01:12 my 2020, I think it's lockdown again, basically. But yeah, so do you have any tips for us then
01:19 to spice it up in the kitchen?"
01:21 "You could just make a hash brown, like delicious. Simply, you don't even have to peel your potato
01:27 because sometimes you can't be bothered. Just grate it, squeeze a little bit of the liquid
01:32 out, but you don't have to wring it out. I know, obviously, if you really want to go
01:37 whole hog and have a really out there breakfast, yeah, then squeeze it out through a tea towel.
01:41 But if you haven't got time, you can make a hash brown in 15 minutes. And then you can
01:44 add any kind of other ingredients you've got. You can add tomatoes, you could add mushrooms,
01:49 you could add spices and store cupboard ingredients. So there are ways that you can reinvigorate
01:57 your breakfasts."
01:59 Poppy's face might be a familiar one if you're a regular on social media. After losing her
02:03 job back in 2020 during the pandemic, she started posting cooking videos online, soon
02:08 amassing a following that currently stands at over 4.4 million. In particular, she's
02:13 known as the potato queen for her recipes featuring the starchy root vegetable. No surprises
02:18 there then that her menu includes plenty of ways you can jazz up the humble spud in the
02:22 AM.
02:23 "I used to work in kitchens, I've been a chef for 10 years and because of COVID and lockdown,
02:30 lost my job. Fine, fair enough. So I started just doing some videos online to kind of entertain
02:38 myself and also make my little brother and sister think I was really cool because they
02:42 were using the app and I was like, I could do that. So we started making some videos
02:47 and then I just really started to enjoy it. It was a hobby and then it was like, oh no,
02:53 I'm teaching people how to cook here and people are enjoying it. And then I just went for
02:58 it. I just like, well, let's just see where this goes. And I'm very fortunate to be in
03:02 this position now."
