00:00Hello and welcome to Manchester World. My name's Theo Hewson-Bett and this video is
00:03your transport update for this week in and around Manchester. Unsurprisingly, with such
00:08a busy city, there's a lot to cover, so let's get right into it.
00:11Good news first, and the roadworks that have plagued Stretford for so long have finally
00:15been finished, one month ahead of schedule actually. The works have seen the Kingsway
00:19and the Barton Road junction altered to make the area safer and greener for all. Kingsway
00:24has been resurfaced with pavements being widened, new crossing points, seating, play areas,
00:29trees and lighting have all appeared alongside the side of the road.
00:32Over to Rochdale now, and Labour MP Paul Waugh has stated that there's a case for a direct
00:37train route operating between Rochdale and London Euston. The plans, submitted by the
00:41operator Lumo, would see a route being established by 2027, which would be the first time since
00:462000 that people in Rochdale would be able to hop on a direct line to the nation's capital.
00:52With the cancellation of HS2, the service could provide a valuable extra link between
00:55the north and the south of the country.
00:57Now there is some bad news for Rochdale unfortunately, because essential maintenance is being carried
01:02out on the tram line near the centre, meaning that trams will reach the end of the line
01:06before making it to the train station. Now buses will be available for those who want
01:11to get from Rochdale town centre to the Rochdale train station, with work set to be concluded
01:16on Thursday 31st October.
01:18Mordelaise now, and three streets in Manchester City Centre are set to be closed for electrical
01:23works. They'll be in effect for two weeks and will affect Shute Hill, Withy Grove and
01:26High Street, with the bus stop on Corporation Street being out of action. There has been
01:31a warning though that although two weeks is the goal, there is scope for those works to
01:34take slightly longer, so please make sure you've got alternate routes repaired.
01:38Just a few final notes, Mayor Andy Burnham has said he's pleased with the amount of uptake
01:41there's been on the new night bus services, calling them key to the B network plan, and
01:45Suffolk Crescent station will be getting a new platform in 2025, which will lead to some
01:50weekend closures between March and September of next year.
01:54That's all we've got for you now, so hopefully this will be some sort of help to you. Thanks
01:57for watching, and follow Manchester World for more.
