Clinton Jonasson speak with The Wimmera Mail-Times journalist John Hall about the upcoming State Firefighting Championships.
Transcript
00:00 I've started out because my wife's family have been in the fire brigade and in the running team for probably
00:06 50-60 years. It's just been a family thing for her side of the family
00:11 I sort of joined the running team when my young bloke started at 11
00:16 He started in the juniors and then I joined
00:19 the senior running team then to help out with numbers because getting numbers is always a bit of a problem as you get a bit
00:25 older as the seniors sort of thing. So yeah, I joined up there
00:30 really
00:32 really loved it
00:33 Unfortunately, I regret not starting earlier now like earlier in life sort of thing. So because yeah, it's really good fun
00:39 Just the competition the skill that's involved in doing it
00:43 It's not just easy as it looks like it's all pressure when you're standing around people watching and all that sort of stuff
00:48 So yeah, it all comes down to doing your work, right?
00:53 So then then yeah, I helped out with the juniors
00:56 with the local captain Cam Whelan
00:59 he was coach at the time and then he sort of stepped aside and allowed me to
01:05 Take the juniors on and I've been doing that for probably the last five years
01:09 Coaching them and the last three or two or three years. They've done really well at the States
01:14 They've come away with a few placings at the state championships
01:17 Which is quite good out of say 50 teams that finished in the top three sort of four or five times
01:23 Really proud of the juniors there
01:25 hopefully this year the team's looking quite good in the under 17, so
01:30 hopefully they can do their work right on the day and
01:33 Yeah, come away with a bit of success there
