00:00 One of the biggest unanswered questions of the movie, I think,
00:03 is what Monica's superhero identity is going to be.
00:06 We chose it.
00:08 And then I watched the movie, and I was like, wait.
00:10 Did I miss it?
00:11 Was it in there?
00:12 Did we cut it?
00:14 Where are we?
00:15 What happened?
00:17 We were hoping you could tell us.
00:19 Monica wakes up in this, like, parallel universe.
00:21 We see an alternate version of Maria,
00:25 and then we see the Beast, played by Kelsey
00:28 Grammar, walk by, which was so--
00:30 like, I mean, the theater went nuts.
00:32 So how much information were you given?
00:34 Because I know sometimes they even keep you guys in the dark.
00:36 I also went wild, because I'm like, wait a minute.
00:41 That's not who I filmed with.
00:43 And I had no clue until it aired.
00:47 And I was like, y'all are so sneaky.
00:49 When we filmed it, it was an actor who was very kind,
00:53 very nice.
00:54 And he was dressed in a lab coat.
00:55 He looked like a normal, regular doctor.
00:58 No one said, by the way, this is going to be a little surprise.
01:02 I had zero clue.
01:05 Zero context.
01:06 I found out with everyone else.
01:07 Oh my god.
01:08 But I imagine this whole thing explains, A,
01:10 why the X-Men were just, like, sipping mocktails while Thanos
01:13 was doing everything.
01:15 But also, like--
01:16 We had to bring them in.
01:17 Is there anyone you really would like
01:18 to see Monica team up with?
01:20 I'm open.
01:22 I mean, there's so many possibilities.
01:25 And Blue Marvel is always--
01:27 you know, that was-- in the comics,
01:29 that was a great relationship and friendship
01:31 and, you know, relationship.
01:32 So that would be cool.
01:34 I want to see her also--
01:35 I mean, again, I would love to see
01:37 her with Maria in this alternate universe,
01:41 Lashana's character.
01:44 Who are you?
01:47 Oh, [bleep]
01:50 One of the biggest unanswered questions of the movie,
01:53 I think, is what Monica's superhero
01:55 identity is going to be.
01:56 That was an ongoing theme throughout the movie,
02:00 like, behind the scenes.
02:01 And we chose them.
02:03 It.
02:04 We chose it.
02:05 And then I watched the movie, and I was like, wait.
02:08 Did I miss it?
02:08 Was it in there?
02:10 Did we cut it?
02:11 So honestly, child, I--
02:13 So you don't know what my name is.
02:16 Maybe you know what it is.
02:17 I do not know what the name is officially,
02:21 because we filmed it.
02:23 Yeah.
02:24 And then it didn't make the movie.
02:25 So if it doesn't make the movie, I'm
02:27 guessing it doesn't really exist in the MCU canon yet.
02:30 So I don't know.
02:32 I love that Monica can't help but, like,
02:34 touch an energy field.
02:35 She sees one, she's going for it.
02:36 Oh, my gosh.
02:37 While we were filming the Marvels, I looked at me,
02:39 and I said, I'm still touching stuff?
02:42 Like, come on.
02:43 So we worked it out where I could believe it.
02:45 I'm like, you know, she's just--
02:46 she brings the energy to her this time.
02:48 Maybe you guys didn't catch that, but I'm like,
02:51 Monica cannot go back and just touch again.
02:55 She learned-- she should have learned
02:56 her lesson from the first time.
02:57 She's curious. We love it.
02:58 She is curious, and I do love that about her.
03:00 The joy you-- you know, you feel for this role is palpable.
03:03 When I look at your social media, I look-- you know,
03:05 training for the flying the first time, the gag reel.
03:07 Like, it looks like you're having so much fun.
03:10 I know it's kind of a big question,
03:11 but what does this role mean to you?
03:13 Oh, my gosh.
03:14 Having the opportunity to play Monica Rambeau
03:17 in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which has also
03:19 been, like, a younger dream of mine
03:22 when I was still in acting school,
03:24 watching the films on the big screen.
03:27 But to be able to tell this woman's story,
03:29 a woman who means so much even in the context of the comics,
03:33 being one of the first Black women
03:35 to lead the Avengers in her comic book life.
03:39 And so to be able to bring her to the Marvel Cinematic
03:42 Universe has been amazing.
03:44 Just to have these images for us to look at, for all--
03:49 the world to see.
03:50 You have three beautifully talented women
03:54 of all different ethnicities just bringing
03:57 energy and badassness and joy all to these roles,
04:02 and fun and adventure.
04:03 And I'm really, really blessed.
04:05 You find the joy in the moments.
04:07 A lot of it is very technical, very tedious,
04:10 just being on the wires.
04:11 Like, in the gag reel, which is a special with the digital
04:15 and Blu-ray, you can see our gag reel and some deleted scenes.
04:18 You'll see me trying to perfect this lift on wires
04:24 that I don't-- honestly, I don't think I ever got it.
04:26 Bless the stunt team.
04:27 I appreciate you, but I'm pretty sure my legs
04:30 continue to splay open--
04:32 Is that the issue?
04:34 --as they pull me into the sky out of the frame.
04:38 I did try, though.
04:39 I really tried. - Two legs together.
04:41 Together.
04:41 Look like you're taking off like a superhero.
04:43 I'm like, ah!
04:44 OK, did I do it?
04:46 Did I do it, Nia?
04:46 She's like, girl.
04:48 OK, we'll fix it later.
04:49 Kind of in the context of the movie,
04:51 though, she is, like, learning that skill.
04:52 She is.
04:53 And so I did use that, even with my landings and takeoffs.
04:57 I'm like, it's a lot for Tiana to try to learn.
05:00 And again, the stunts team were amazing.
05:05 But bless my heart.
05:06 I hope-- I think it translated eventually.
05:09 I'll be ready for the next one.
05:10 I'll be ready.
05:11 As you prepare for the Marvels after WandaVision,
05:13 what was your favorite thing that was kind of expanded on,
05:16 or maybe something that you didn't quite
05:18 know about Monica's character?
05:22 I think the part that was really--
05:25 a part that was really enjoyable for me
05:26 was learning what her power set would be in the MCU.
05:31 Because we got a little bit of it in WandaVision.
05:33 And so obviously, there's lots of things in the comics.
05:36 But you don't ever know what parts
05:38 they'll actually pull from.
05:39 So watching her learn to fly and what that looks like for her,
05:44 what kind of flyer is she?
05:47 How does she fight?
05:48 How does she use her super powers?
05:51 And she is, if not the only--
05:54 she's one of the few, if not the only,
05:57 super female, super power--
05:59 Black female super powered individuals in the universe.
06:02 So what does that look like for her?
06:04 We get to see her power up physically, literally.
06:07 And that's her energy in her body, her being.
06:09 So what does that look like to portray?
06:12 How do you express that?
06:15 Those were all fun things.
06:16 What excites you most about the future of the MCU right now?
06:20 I mean, I'm excited to see where it goes.
06:22 There's so much opportunity.
06:23 We have so many characters that are here
06:26 and have been established.
06:27 And there's really-- it can go anywhere.
06:31 And so far, the way we're integrating the X-Men now,
06:35 or we've alluded to that may be happening, that's exciting.
06:39 The possibilities truly are endless.
06:41 Truly endless.
06:43 I'm down for the ride.
06:44 I'm open.
06:45 I love it.
06:46 And I love you.
06:47 And I'm so glad you were here.
06:48 Again, the Marvels is available to own at home.
06:51 Gag Reels, deleted scenes, all kinds of fun stuff.
06:54 Flirkins going everywhere.
06:55 Everywhere.
06:56 Director commentary.
06:57 It's good. It's good stuff.
06:58 Fun stuff. - Perfect.
06:59 Thank you so much.
07:00 Thank you.
07:01 This was great.
