Locked On NFL Draft's Damian Parson on What a WR Like Rome Odunze Could Do for Daniel Jones
Transcript
00:00 Damian, I want to talk about receivers because as I mentioned, I think the Giants are going to go
00:04 receiver in the first round. You've got the big three. You've got Harrison Jr., Adunze, Malik
00:09 Neighbors. I'm sure other guys have helped their stock. But the first part of my question is,
00:14 is did that ranking in your mind or in the scouting department, the scouting community,
00:20 did that change any? Did one guy maybe rise above the other? And then the second question I have
00:25 for you is, how much can one of those guys really help to elevate, say, a rookie quarterback or any
00:31 quarterback's game for that matter, especially when you have a guy like Daniel Jones, who it
00:35 looks like they're going to run it back with him, who has been skittish, as you said, and who really
00:41 hasn't had a number one receiver since he's been here? Yeah, I think, you know, of course, with
00:45 Marvin Harrison Jr. not, you know, testing, he won't do any testing this entire process. He's
00:51 like, listen, you guys seen my tape, see you in training camp, right? Or see your rookie OTAs.
00:56 And Malik Neighbors, you know, he didn't test. He didn't even, if I remember correctly, I don't
01:01 believe he measured in or did medicals either. He might do medicals, but I don't think he measured
01:05 in. In India, I think he's waiting to do everything at his pro day with Jaden Daniels and
01:10 everything. So it was Roma Adunze that really popped off to me, measuring in at 6'3", 2'12",
01:16 32 and a quarter on the arm, over nine inches on the hand. But he ran a 4'4", 5", a 1'5", 2" split,
01:23 jumped nearly 40 inches, had a 10'4", a 6'8", 8'3" cone and a 4'0" 3" in a short shuttle. And he
01:31 just showed that size, that athleticism, that smoothness to his game. He's very smooth with
01:37 his route running, his break points, everything, understanding how to get free from man-to-man
01:42 coverage. And then he has the athleticism to, again, we watched the tape all season.
01:46 If they left Roma Adunze at one-on-one, Michael Penney Jr. was looking right in that direction.
01:51 I was like, "Okay, you want to give me my guy on the island? I'm throwing that back shoulder fade
01:55 to him." And that's where you look at, okay, how can he help Daniel Jones? He gives him a bigger
02:00 target on the outside that Daniel could just say, "You know what? He's down there somewhere,
02:05 and I can put him in his vicinity." I call Roma Adunze, one of those receivers I call
02:09 an area code receiver, where you just got to get into his area code. It doesn't have to be in the
02:15 exact location, the exact address, just get it within the city limits, and he can make a play.
02:20 And that's what he's able to do on a consistent basis, down in and down out.
