Jeremy Hunt's tax cuts labeled 'cynical' by Lib Dem election rival Paul Follows

Jeremy Hunt’s 2p National Insurance cut has been labeled “cynical” by his Godalming and Ash Lib Dem election rival Paul Follows.
Mr Follows, who is also the leader of Waverley Borough Council and a councillor in Godalming, took to X (formerly Twitter) to respond to Mr Hunt’s latest Spring Budget.
He kicked off by criticising the Chancellor's conduct in parliament, saying: “Certainly the man (Hunt) seems rattled and that’s before we get to the inappropriate jibes across the house to a man who’s been looking after his son and another man about his weight. That was a debate that did not lend dignity to parliament.”

00:00 Good afternoon everyone, my name's Councillor Paul Follows and I'm the leader of Waverborough
00:05 Council and the Lib Dem parliamentary candidate standing here in Gottingen and Ash against
00:09 Jeremy Hunt. Now I've just spent the last hour or so listening to the Budget and of
00:14 course not a lot of surprises. Certainly the man seems rattled and that's before we get
00:18 to the inappropriate jibes across the House to a man who's been looking after his son
00:22 and another man about his weight. That was a debate that did not lend dignity to Parliament
00:27 whatsoever. But what did he actually talk about? Well a 2p reduction in National Insurance,
00:32 well that equates at most to about £450 a year. Now I know people right here in Gottingen
00:38 and certainly other places within this borough and this constituency who have had their energy
00:42 bills, their food bills, their mortgage, their rent, everything rise by so much that in some
00:48 cases that's been more than a £450 rise a month, let alone yearly. Now these tax cuts
00:54 are cynical. We know full well the context of the tax burden in this country that has
00:59 put it to be the highest since the Second World War. We've seen nothing about tax reform
01:03 which is about the only real solution to dealing with any of these problems. But more critically
01:08 we have seen nothing once again for public services. Our roads are in decline, our NHS
01:14 is understaffed and struggling and in need of resource, education system is teetering
01:19 and among other resource public institutions in this country that are simply on the brink.
01:23 Now the Chancellor has almost no plan for this. Once again he attacks those incredibly
01:28 hard working people in those public services by telling them they need to be more efficient
01:32 and that realistically is his only plan. Now I don't know about you but I can't name a
01:37 single service that is better since 2015. Can you? It is absolutely now time for change
01:43 and time for a general election.
