Number of unemployed Filipinos down 2.15M in January from 2.38M recorded in the same period last year

00:37 Clarence is one of the Filipinos who no longer counts for and among the unemployed in the country
00:43 this year. According to the Philippine Statistics Authority, the number of unemployed which was 2.38
00:51 million in January 2023 slid to 2.15 million in the same period in 2024. This year the number of
01:00 workers in the industry of construction, transportation, administrative, fishing,
01:06 and other livelihoods such as repair work have increased. The number of employees who have
01:12 obtained regular income also rose. Finance Secretary Ralph Recto allowed the improvement
01:18 in the quality of jobs available in the Philippines. This as more Filipinos become
01:24 engaged in formal and stable work. The improvement in the quality of jobs is also a reflection
01:31 of the drop in the underemployment in the country. The Department of Finance reaffirms its commitment
01:38 in fostering an environment that is conducive to employment generating activities. President
01:45 Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. aims to further promote a favorable business environment in the Philippines.
01:53 According to the National Economic and Development Authority, Secretary Arsenio Balisacan,
02:00 this will attract local and foreign investments that will certainly result in more and better
02:07 quality jobs in our country. Efforts will be made to enhance collaboration between industry,
02:14 the academe, and the public in order to tackle skill mismatches and disparities in employment
02:20 related skills. Additionally, special attention will be given to creating livelihood opportunities
02:27 for vulnerable sectors including women, the elderly, and persons with disabilities. In total,
02:34 around 45.94 million Filipinos are employed or engaged in business. Although this is lower than
02:42 47.80 million during the last quarter of 2023, known as a holiday season, the PSA does not
02:50 express concern about this.
