00:00 Welcome to Mojo Plays, and not even the mightiest heroes can save themselves from terrible video game adaptations.
00:07 For this list, we'll look at some heroes that already suffered through their own video games,
00:12 but deserved more respect than they received for their interactive outings.
00:16 "You may have a problem, Tony."
00:19 "Pepper, I have a lot of problems."
00:20 "I'm serious, you and this armor. Do I need to stage an intervention?"
00:25 "Only if I start wearing it to bed."
00:27 Thor.
00:28 [Thunder]
00:33 Thor might be the God of Thunder, but he hasn't really had a chance to show his true power in any of the video games he's appeared in.
00:41 His movie tie-in game was nothing more than a God of War clone filled with damaged sponge enemies,
00:46 and his appearance in Marvel's Avengers wasn't much better.
00:49 There is a wealth of great comic book stories to be adapted for Thor,
00:54 but for some reason, much like in the MCU, he's mostly sidelined and never given a chance to appeal to his strengths.
01:01 Adapting the comics instead of the MCU would also allow players to delve deeper into the Game of Thrones-style Kingdom of Asgard,
01:09 and focus either on the early days of the God of Thunder, or better yet,
01:13 take the God of War 2018 approach and show us an aged and weathered Thor who must reclaim Mjolnir by proving his worth again.
01:21 "Brother, I'm learning how to turn this defeat into victory."
01:26 Batman Beyond.
01:28 This should have been the next logical step for Rocksteady with the Arkham Universe,
01:33 and would have continued to honor Kevin Conroy's legacy as Batman by passing the torch to Terry McGinnis as the new protector of Gotham.
01:40 Batman Beyond might not have reached the same levels of popularity as Batman the Animated Series,
01:46 but it has developed a devoted cult following in the years since.
01:50 Forcing an aging Bruce Wayne onto the sidelines and into a futuristic Gotham while mentoring the next generation of crime fighters
01:58 could let players see Gotham in an entirely new way, as well as utilize an entire new arsenal of gadgets.
02:05 The series also saw the return of familiar foes, as well as a rogues gallery all his own.
02:10 A Batman Beyond game has long been in demand by the fanbase, and Terry deserves his time in the shadows as the new Batman.
02:18 Fantastic Four.
02:20 [screaming]
02:22 [music]
02:24 "Wait, I'm okay!"
02:26 "Really? I'm okay?"
02:28 For being Marvel's first family, the Fantastic Four really hasn't had their time in the spotlight
02:34 besides a couple poor tie-in games to the original movies of the mid-2000s and the abomination that was the 1997 video game.
02:42 Within the comics, the Fantastic Four are tied in with nearly every other superhero in the Marvel Universe,
02:48 so cameos from the entirety of Marvel canon are technically open for them.
02:53 Using the format of the recent Guardians of the Galaxy could offer potential for the title
02:58 with Reed Richards calling the shots while the team is fighting together,
03:02 and then separate levels for each hero to make use of their individual skill sets.
03:06 The Fantastic Four have some of the most unique power sets in the Marvel Universe,
03:11 and with all the advances in video game tech wizardry, now is the perfect time for the Fantastic Four to flame on for some clobberin' time.
03:19 [music]
03:23 "Show-off."
03:25 Spawn.
03:28 "I made a deal. I sealed my fate hole for the love of my wife."
03:33 Spawn is one of the few superheroes to go mainstream not tied to either Marvel or DC,
03:39 and managed to become not only an icon, but also put Image Comics on the map.
03:45 Todd McFarlane's passion project has had numerous video games,
03:48 but none of them managed to capture the look, feel, or the true darkness of the character.
03:54 A perfect video game adaptation could take inspiration from the Batman Arkham games,
03:59 and let Hell's anti-hero hunt the lowest of the criminal underworld while balancing his necroplasm powers.
04:06 The balance of deciding when and whether to use his powers could also feed into a morality meter
04:12 in which the player can decide if they want to continue down the path of the anti-hero,
04:16 or fully give in to their evil side for special bonuses to their suit and unleash the full power of Hell.
04:22 "The Hellhole is closed."
04:24 "Now it's time for Malbogia to fulfill his side of the bargain."
04:28 Green Lantern.
04:30 "Aben Sir was the best of us. There ain't ever gonna be anyone like him again."
04:37 "That could not be more true."
04:40 Green Lantern has probably some of the most untapped potential in video games.
04:45 Ignoring the abysmal tie-in game to the equally terrible movie,
04:49 Green Lantern's light hasn't had a chance to shine in video games
04:52 outside of his role in the Injustice series and the LEGO DC games.
04:57 Rather than focusing solely on Hal Jordan or Jon Stewart,
05:01 players could interact with the entire Green Lantern Corps
05:04 and be sent on a planet-hopping, space-exploration adventure to police the galaxy
05:09 and uncover a universe-ending threat.
05:11 The power of the ring would allow players to find any number of solutions to encounters,
05:16 and giving these new wielders of the ring the ability to fully customize their powers
05:21 with innumerable construct options to use during their adventures
05:24 would ensure that no two players' experiences were the same.
05:28 "In brightest days, in blackest night, no evil shall escape my sight."
05:33 "Let those who worship evil's might..."
05:35 "Beware my power, Green Lantern!"
05:38 The Watchmen.
05:39 "Like heaven is trying hard to wash away all of New York's sins."
05:44 "Hmph. Waste of time. Steel Wolf couldn't scour clean this city's soul."
05:50 Alan Moore's Watchmen might have subverted a lot of superhero tropes,
05:54 but when it came to the team's one and only video game outing,
05:58 it was as generic as you could get.
06:00 With most superheroes maintaining their heroic stature,
06:04 a Watchmen game could lean more into the darker side of constantly being in the spotlight,
06:08 as well as the heroes, in particular Rorschach's investigations,
06:12 into the seedy underworld of the universe.
06:15 A more mature superhero video game would fit the darker, more introspective style of storytelling
06:20 many games are implementing these days,
06:22 and being able to follow all the members of the group
06:25 and possibly even be given morality choices throughout the story
06:29 could also help differentiate itself from the source material and give players more agency.
06:34 Since all but Doctor Manhattan are humans in costume,
06:38 combat and exploration could borrow heavily from Rocksteady's Arkhamverse.
06:43 "Who? I don't know who you're talking about!"
06:45 "You know plenty enough."
06:47 Aquaman.
06:53 Admittedly, water levels are the bane of most gamers,
06:56 so the prospect of a game set primarily in the ocean isn't immediately appealing.
07:01 The world of Atlantis itself is ancient and full of turmoil,
07:06 with numerous attempts to overthrow the King of Atlantis,
07:09 and this would be an excellent jumping in point for Arthur Curry to earn his redemption and regain his throne.
07:15 With numerous other kingdoms to visit in which he can gain allies while also learning new abilities,
07:20 there's no end to the imaginative locations for players to visit and enemies to encounter.
07:26 While there would undoubtedly be the hurdle of making underwater exploration fun and engaging,
07:31 many games in the years since the horrendous Battle for Atlantis have made great strides with these mechanics,
07:37 and a dedicated team could help Arthur reclaim his throne in an epic climactic battle
07:42 that allows him to fully unleash the powers of the deep.
07:46 Iron Man.
07:47 "Is it the person he is...
07:49 or the hero he could become?"
07:54 The man who launched the billion-dollar movie empire,
07:58 Tony Stark has remained one of the most popular characters in both the MCU as well as graphic novels.
08:04 However, his video games have yet to fully capture the true experience of being Iron Man.
08:10 The VR game did its best to put players in the cockpit of the suit,
08:14 but still felt underwhelming compared to the maneuverability and arsenal fans have come to expect.
08:20 Marvel's Avengers also fell short, in several ways,
08:23 and oddly enough, one of the only games to truly make players feel like they were inside the suit
08:29 wasn't even an Iron Man game, but BioWare's Anthem.
08:32 If the upcoming EA Iron Man game can adapt those mechanics,
08:36 as well as the sense of speed and adrenaline of piloting one of Tony Stark's incredible suits,
08:41 it might just be enough to forget his other embarrassing video game entries.
08:46 "You're not planning anything crazy, are you?"
08:48 "Define crazy."
08:49 Ghost Rider.
08:51 "So now Johnny is in hell."
08:54 "Ahhhhhh!"
08:59 "And he ain't too pleased about it."
09:02 While we'd love to see any version of Ghost Rider get a proper video game,
09:06 we'd especially love to see the newest incarnation of the Spirit of Vengeance,
09:10 Robbie Reyes, and his flaming Hellcharger get some much needed attention.
09:15 While the Rider's only video game outing copied the Greek saga's God of War combat,
09:20 there's no reason to fix what ain't broken.
09:22 Combine Reyes' chain whip abilities with his Hellfire attacks,
09:26 as well as Robbie's hand-to-hand combat prowess,
09:29 and the game's combat possibilities have plenty of room to grow.
09:33 Robbie could even have his own version of Spartan Rage,
09:36 in which he unleashes his full powers for an extra boost with his demonic form.
09:41 The ability for Robbie to remotely control, as well as instantly teleport to his Hellcharger anywhere,
09:47 could be reminiscent of the Batmobile in Arkham Knight,
09:50 and open up unique fast travel opportunities.
09:54 "In his fury, Ghost Rider had laid waste to legions of Hell's abominations."
10:01 Superman.
10:02 [Superman theme]
10:09 The most iconic superhero of all time,
10:12 Superman has had some of the worst video game adaptations of any hero on our list.
10:18 Given his immense strength, speed, and overall power,
10:22 it's not difficult to understand how adapting the last son of Krypton to video games would be a challenge for any developer.
10:29 Possibly the closest we've come to a proper Superman game was 2017's Megaton Rainfall,
10:35 and any potential developer could easily use this as a roadmap for a potential Superman game.
10:40 Giving players full access to Superman's abilities,
10:43 players would need to strategically engage in combat to minimize not only collateral damage of the city's many citizens,
10:50 but the fully destructible buildings as well.
10:53 Given Superman's clearly OP powers,
10:56 the world he must protect needs to be equally large in scale,
10:59 and offer players a truly enormous open world or galaxy to protect and unleash all the powers of the Man of Steel.
11:07 "I ask the question, does the world still need Superman?"
11:12 "The answer is... yes."
11:17 Which superhero do you think was done dirty by video games and deserves a second chance at redemption?
