00:00 But they also had to make sure they could never run away.
00:03 The operation was called hobbling.
00:05 Welcome to MissMojo, and today we're looking at the most evil villain masterplans in movies.
00:10 This list will contain some sinister spoilers.
00:13 I'm not a comic book villain.
00:15 Do you seriously think I'd explain my masterstroke to you if there were even the slightest possibility you could affect the outcome?
00:22 10. Cruella De Vil's Fashion Goals - 101 Dalmatians
00:28 Well, if we make this coat, it would be as if I were wearing your dog.
00:33 Some villains want to take over the world.
00:35 Some want to right a wrong that occurred to them.
00:37 And some, like Cruella De Vil, just want to turn puppies into a new fur coat.
00:42 Don't worry, I'm not going to ruin your little puppy coat.
00:45 I'm just going to make a few buttonholes.
00:47 Where are you, you filthy beast?
00:50 It's such a wildly absurd motive, but it's one that's demented nonetheless.
00:55 Cruella very clearly wants to harm these innocent dogs,
00:58 and throughout the live-action 101 Dalmatians movie,
01:02 she goes through so many hurdles to try and do it.
01:05 Thankfully, though, this abuser is arrested at the end of the movie.
01:09 -Mr. De Vil? -Yes?
01:12 -We have a warrant for your arrest. -Oh.
01:16 Is there something wrong?
01:18 Glenn Close's Cruella isn't an overly complex bad guy with a sad backstory.
01:23 She's just a cruel woman with no redeeming qualities.
01:27 And that makes her a truly haunting antagonist.
01:31 9. John Doe Gets What He Wants
01:34 7.
01:35 Do you hear me, detective? I'm trying to tell you how much I admire you and your pretty wife.
01:41 John Doe might have been shot and killed at the end of 7, but did he really lose?
01:46 This serial killer had been targeting victims who he thought committed the seven deadly sins.
01:51 -That's what he wants. He wants you to shoot him.
01:54 Throughout his schemes, he ended up playing Detective Mills and Somerset like violins.
02:00 And in a devastating reveal, Mills' wife was yet another of Doe's victims.
02:05 This spurs Mills to kill Doe in an incredibly tense scene,
02:09 but it was ultimately what John wanted anyways.
02:12 Oh, God! Oh, God! Oh!
02:18 It's not often a villain can puppeteer the heroes like this.
02:21 Doe's murderous obsession with the seven deadly sins,
02:24 and his desire to die to top off his grand scheme,
02:27 made him a villain simply a cut above the rest.
02:31 8. Zemo Plays The Avengers Against Each Other
02:35 Captain America Civil War
02:37 An empire toppled by its enemies can rise again.
02:41 But one which crumbles from within, that's dead.
02:47 After his family died during the Avengers' fight against Ultron,
02:50 Baron Zemo sought revenge.
02:52 And Zemo's nothing if not an opportunist.
02:55 When the Avengers were split over a proposed piece of legislation
02:59 that would regulate superheroes called the Sokovia Accords,
03:03 Zemo struck.
03:05 He used trigger words to re-brainwash Winter Soldier
03:08 and set up an explosion that killed King T'Chaka.
03:11 I'm sorry about your father.
03:14 He seemed a good man.
03:17 With a dutiful son.
03:20 He also leaked footage revealing that Winter Soldier
03:22 murdered Iron Man's parents,
03:24 leading to the nastiest fight between Iron Man and Captain America
03:29 that we've ever seen.
03:30 Zemo might have been imprisoned in the end,
03:33 but he turned several of the Avengers into outlaws in the process.
03:37 You'll see it fail.
03:39 So spectacularly.
03:42 Did it.
03:46 And it took until Avengers Endgame
03:48 for the team to truly be unified once again.
03:52 Number 7. Riddler uses Batman.
03:55 The Batman.
03:56 You're part of this too.
03:59 How am I part of this?
04:01 You'll see.
04:02 Social outcast Edward Nashton shone a light on Gotham City's corruption,
04:07 and he even used Batman to do it.
04:10 As the Riddler, he orchestrates several elaborate riddles for Batman to solve.
04:14 It leads the caped crusader to break into the Iceberg Lounge,
04:18 hunt the penguin in a car chase,
04:20 and beat up a whole lot of goons.
04:23 One way or another, though, it was all what Riddler wanted.
04:26 What's black and blue and dead all over?
04:34 You.
04:35 Sure, he didn't anticipate that Batman would reject him in the way that he did,
04:39 but by then, his swarm of like-minded goons had already succeeded in bombing Gotham City,
04:45 leading to a major flood.
04:47 We arguably haven't really seen a villain get one-up on Batman like this
04:51 since Joker in The Dark Knight.
04:53 The less of them you have, the more one is worth.
05:00 A friend.
05:07 6. Tech Terrors - Kingsman The Secret Service
05:17 People like to say technology will rot your brain,
05:20 but in Kingsman The Secret Service, that's exactly what it does.
05:24 When tech mogul Richmond Valentine promises to give users free internet and cellular service
05:30 through his company's line of SIM cards, it's a deal too good to be true.
05:35 Anyone with phones connected to these SIMs soon go mad and become violent.
05:40 I always felt the old Bond films were only as good as the villain.
05:43 As a child, I rather fancied a future as a colourful megalomaniac.
05:47 With everyone turned rabid, Valentine hopes to wipe out humanity and start over from scratch.
05:54 Finding the perfect phone and phone plan can drive you crazy, but not this, literally.
05:59 5. Holding an Author Hostage - Misery
06:18 There's an old saying that you should never meet your heroes,
06:21 but maybe there should be one about never meeting your fans too.
06:24 Well, at least the crazy ones.
06:27 When Paul Sheldon is hurt in a car crash, he's rescued by Annie Wilkes,
06:31 a nurse who is a fan of his novels.
06:33 But when she finds out that Paul killed off her favourite character, Misery Chastain, she snaps.
06:40 You did it! You did it! You murdered my Misery!
06:46 She holds him captive and forces him to write a new book, bringing Misery back.
06:54 She tortures and nearly kills Paul in the name of the fictional character.
06:58 Paul eventually stops her, but this encounter understandably traumatises him.
07:03 Annie's a clear psycho fan, but also a pretty good representation of toxic fandom.
07:08 Take a breather, Annie.
07:10 It's weird. Even though I know she's dead, I still think about her once in a while.
07:19 4. Launching an Atomic Bomb - Goldfinger
07:24 There's going overboard, and then there's... whatever the heck this is.
07:28 This James Bond villain had an insanely elaborate master plan in Goldfinger.
07:33 Do you expect me to talk?
07:35 No, Mr Bond, I expect you to die!
07:39 With Operation Grand Slam, Auric hoped to raid Fort Knox and irradiate their gold supply,
07:46 turning it worthless. That way, his own supply of gold would inflate in value
07:52 and send the economy into a tailspin.
07:55 To attack, he didn't just want to hit the armed guards with deadly nerve gas
07:59 and have his troops tear down the fences. Auric wanted to hit the place with an atomic bomb.
08:06 This government's given you a bomb. I prefer to call it an atomic device.
08:10 It's small, but particularly dirty.
08:12 James Bond ultimately defeated him, but could you just imagine if that worked?
08:17 He's no J. Robert Oppenheimer, but Auric Goldfinger could have been the destroyer of worlds during this movie.
08:25 What happened? Where's Goldfinger?
08:27 Playing his golden harp.
08:29 3. Ozymandias' Plan for Peace - Watchmen
08:33 It doesn't take a genius to see the world has problems.
08:35 Yeah, but it takes a room full of morons who think they're small enough for you to handle.
08:39 Ozymandias may have been one of the smartest people in the Watchmen universe,
08:43 but it doesn't take a genius to tell that his world peace plan was bonkers.
08:48 Ozymandias wanted to use his energy reactors to explode multiple cities,
08:53 killing millions in the process.
08:55 He reasoned that the tragedy would be enough to rally Earth's nations together.
09:00 Needless to say, this put him at odds with several of the other heroes.
09:04 "Humanity's savage nature will inevitably lead to global annihilation."
09:09 "So in order to save this planet, I had to trick it."
09:14 A plan like Ozymandias' isn't just chilling because of the high casualty rate,
09:19 but also because he initiated it before the heroes even knew about it.
09:23 A world that no longer knows war is fantastic, but did it really have to be achieved through this?
09:30 2. Thanos' Culling of the Universe - Avengers Infinity War
09:35 "This universe is finite, its resources finite. If life is left unchecked, life will cease to exist."
09:43 "It needs correction." "You don't know that!"
09:47 To his credit, Thanos did exactly what he set out to do in Infinity War
09:51 when he successfully snapped half of all life from the entire universe.
09:56 It was surely impossible to think that the genocidal maniac would actually succeed in his goals.
10:02 "You should have gone for the head."
10:08 So it was shocking, to say the least, to find Earth's mightiest heroes ultimately fail.
10:14 Thanos won.
10:16 Even though everything was eventually fixed in Endgame,
10:19 the haunting effects of what he did still lasted years in-universe.
10:23 Sure, his plan for erasing half of all life was crazy,
10:26 but his sheer dedication and ability to yield results cemented him as a force to be reckoned with.
10:33 "What did it cost?"
10:38 "Everything."

10:56 Number 1. The Empire Begins - Star Wars Episode III - Revenge of the Sith
11:04 "You're under arrest, Chancellor." "Are you threatening me, Master Jedi?"
11:09 "The Senate will decide your fate." "I am the Senate."
11:13 "Not yet."
11:14 We knew that the Star Wars prequels would eventually lead up to the continuity of the original trilogy,
11:20 but knowing that still didn't stop us from getting goosebumps
11:23 when we saw the formation of what would be known as the Galactic Empire in Revenge of the Sith.
11:30 The whole transition proved that Emperor Palpatine was a true genius.
11:35 "At last, the Jedi are no more."
11:39 He worked his way into becoming Chancellor, orchestrated the Clone Wars to play both sides,
11:44 and exploited multiple apprentices, all of which he'd eventually discard like broken toys.
11:50 Palpatine also further extinguished both the Republic and the Jedi through the Order 66 Protocol.
11:57 "Execute Order 66."
12:01 If the long game which Palpatine played isn't considered diabolical, we really don't know what else is.
12:08 Is there a nefarious plot we failed to mention? Let us know in the comments.
12:12 "I had it all planned out! We were gonna be safe here. We could watch the whole thing together."
