00:00Come on. Come on. I want you to do it. I want you to do it. Come on!
00:06Welcome to WatchMojo, and today we're counting down our picks for the most notable members of Bruce Wayne's rogues gallery.
00:12No one cared who I was till I put on the mask.
00:23Is the Ventriloquist one villain or two? It depends on how you look at things.
00:27Arnold Wesker, the man with his hand inside the dummy, appears to suffer from dissociative identity disorder.
00:33This means that while the puppet, a mobster named Scarface, may not actually have a mind of its own, his psychological hold over Wesker is all too real.
00:42Good boy.
00:48Better look sharp, you smugs! Scarface is back!
00:52Once just a scared young orphan, his repressed feelings eventually manifested into a violent bar fight that resulted in him being sent to Blackgate Prison.
01:00Wesker first met Scarface while incarcerated, and in another violent outburst, killed the man who carved him.
01:07They have been inseparable ever since.
01:10Enough with the act. Lose the dummy.
01:13I would, but he keeps following me around!
01:17This isn't an act, is it?
01:22Unlike the Grinch, this is one villain who really knows how to get into the spirit of the season.
01:27Of course, the way Calendar Man, also known as Julian Gregory Day, likes to celebrate important or minor holidays is to go on a crime spree.
01:35So maybe that's not a good thing.
01:38There's lots of crazy out there these days.
01:44And just when I thought you'd cleaned it all up.
01:47But still, we can't knock his commitment to the bit.
01:50He's even been known to dress up for special occasions.
01:53How could we not love that?
01:54Even his name is a clever nod to the Julian and Gregorian calendars.
01:58Live the dream, big shot!
02:00Yes! I'll take an army of Halloween jack-o'-lanterns!
02:08You are Cleo, my muse of history.
02:10Amuse me with tales of ancient times when mortals trembled at the name of Zeus.
02:16Once a history teacher with a severe hyperfixation on Greek mythology,
02:20Maxie Zeus has now risen to prominence as one of Gotham City's most esteemed gang leaders.
02:25The only problem with his leadership?
02:27His delusions of grandeur are such that he believes he literally is an incarnation of the Greek god he shares his last name with.
02:34Another example of a villain who is firmly committed to the role.
02:39Zeus themes all his schemes around mythology,
02:42frequently wears a tunic,
02:43and even speaks in an exaggerated tone of voice that he ditches only when communicating with his daughter Medea.
02:49I am Maxie Zeus, and tonight I max all your dreams come true!
03:00In a catalog of villains that have some quirks to say the least,
03:04Professor Pig ranks as one of the oddest and most disturbing.
03:07It appears we've captured your butler instead of you.
03:11No worry, we'll be meeting soon enough.
03:15Ta-ta!
03:16A deranged serial killer and surgeon consumed by the pursuit of flawlessness,
03:21the professor transforms his victims into mindless dolatrons.
03:25These puppets are nearly indestructible, making him a formidable threat.
03:29Professor Pig has an obsession with the legendary Greek mythological figure Pygmalion,
03:34a sculptor who fell in love with one of his statues.
03:37Wait, obsessed with a Greek mythological figure?
03:40This guy and Maxie Zeus should hang out.
03:42Rage is a common cause of hypertension, you know.
03:46Perhaps we should give your heart a quick stress test just to be safe.
03:50Number 26, Solomon Grundy.
03:53Solomon Grundy, born on a Monday.
03:55Made famous as an adversary of the Green Lantern Corps,
03:58Solomon Grundy has nonetheless had his fair share of run-ins with our favorite caped crusader throughout his career.
04:04I'll have to ask the Joker why he's had so much trouble doing this over the years.
04:10So this isn't a complete waste of my energies?
04:13The undead supervillain had a few spins put on his origin story throughout the years.
04:17He tends to die and come back to life a lot.
04:20But in his original incarnation, he was a homicide victim who was resurrected as a zombie.
04:25Cursed you with a powerful gris-gris.
04:30And dumped your remains in a swamp redolent with mystical properties of its own.
04:35While most of the time Grundy is straight-up evil,
04:37some of his resurrected forms have shown that they are not incapable of doing good.
04:49Number 25, Lady Shiva.
04:51Does anybody else have that one adult relative who's a little too obsessed with karate or is it just us?
04:57Lady Shiva is considered to be perhaps the greatest martial artist within the DC Universe.
05:02And has even put Batman on his toes.
05:13She pretty much spends her time traveling the world picking fights with everyone she comes across.
05:17She's kind of like that guy you know who's always demanding that people debate him.
05:22Except that's mostly just on Reddit.
05:24Shiva's tendency to wander so much in search of a worthy combatant
05:27once caused Batman to accuse her of having a death wish.
05:32I overhear your plan to place Cassandra as a mole.
05:35We gave you every chance to prove us wrong by doing nothing.
05:38Number 24, Killer Moth.
05:40The Joker gets a lot of credit for being a dark mirror of our hero.
05:44But may we present Batman's original foil, Killer Moth.
05:48Who is a little like a villainous version of the hero who's obsessed with moths instead of bats.
05:54You might want to cut back on his sugar intake.
05:56Penguin's not alone.
05:59Ki-yah!
06:01I think we can take him.
06:03Seriously, just like Batman, he has plenty of gadgets and gimmicks.
06:06And he even has a moth mobile.
06:09We're also impressed by just how garish his original outfit manages to be.
06:13The combination of bright green, orange and purple
06:16along with the fact that he's, you know, dressed as a moth
06:19really makes it stand out.
06:21Ah, this could not have gone worse.
06:23I spent all my savings to militate you into something really horrible.
06:26And I did this?
06:28I give up. I'm going to bed.
06:31Number 23, Man Bat.
06:33As a zoologist studying bats,
06:35Dr. Robert Kirkland Kirk Langstrom developed a serum
06:38that he hoped would bless humans with their sonar senses.
06:41Langstrom had a personal investment in the results of the experiment
06:44as he was losing his hearing.
06:46The good news? He no longer has issues with his hearing.
06:49The horrifying news?
06:51The bat gland extract also has the mild side effect
06:55of transforming Langstrom into a grotesque bat-like creature.
06:58What is that thing?
07:00That thing is what we're after.
07:04Be careful what you wish for, we guess.
07:06Later stories have attempted to paint Man Bat in a more sympathetic light.
07:10We can understand why.
07:12It's hard not to feel for a guy who just wanted to maintain the gift of hearing
07:15and ended up like this.
07:17Oh, don't trouble yourself, Mr. Wayne.
07:19A pompous pretty boy like you could never understand my work.
07:23Try me, Doctor. I want to be like the Batman.
07:27Number 22, The Phantasm.
07:29The Phantasm is among the most memorable Batman adversaries
07:33who somehow still haven't made a live-action debut.
07:36Buzz Brodsky.
07:38Your angel of death awaits.
07:41Get away from me, you freak!
07:43This mysterious figure debuted in the animated feature
07:45Batman Mask of the Phantasm in 1993.
07:48Despite being the only animated Batman film to see a wide theatrical release,
07:52barring anything Lego-related,
07:54the flick often ranks as a fan favorite.
07:57Joker, your angel of death awaits.
08:01Forget film, though.
08:02The Phantasm didn't even debut in the canon of the comics
08:05until Batman Catwoman number one in 2020,
08:08nearly three decades after her movie was released.
08:11What gives?
08:13Number 21, Carmine Falcone.
08:15Carmine Falcone is an incredible example of a Batman villain
08:18who's not intimidating because of any superpower he possesses.
08:22Instead, he's a worthy foe to Batman
08:24because of the might he wields as the face of Gotham's criminal syndicate.
08:28You thought your father was a boy scout.
08:31But you'd be surprised what even a good man like him
08:35is capable of in the right situation.
08:38It's an unfortunate fact that with money comes power,
08:41and this Falcone crime family member has a lot of it.
08:44But it's Falcone's ruthlessness and strategy
08:47that really makes him someone you do not want to cross.
08:50This might be why the mob boss seems to have everybody in his pocket,
08:54including the police and government officials.
08:56Couple off-duty cops and a judge.
08:59Now, I wouldn't have a second's hesitation
09:01of blowing your head off right here and right now in front of him.
09:04Now, that's power you can't buy.
09:06At times, the rivalry between the Falcones and the Maronis,
09:09Gotham's other most prominent crime family,
09:12headed by Sal Maroni,
09:13has turned to violence in the city streets.
09:29Before the Joker,
09:30Batman had to deal with another demented egomaniac.
09:33Professor Hugo Strange first appeared in Detective Comics No. 36 in 1940.
09:39Although he has a loose grasp on sanity,
09:42he's also a genius.
09:44The criminal scientist was the first to discover
09:46Batman's true identity as Bruce Wayne.
09:48In the animated series,
09:50Strange even attempted to auction off the mask revealed to the highest bidder.
09:55I have here incontestable proof of Batman's secret identity.
10:01Now, gentlemen, how much have I bid?
10:06The villain first appeared in live action on Gotham thanks to B.D. Wong.
10:10Strange serves as the chief of psychiatry at Arkham Asylum,
10:14while overseeing where he conducts experiments on superhumans.
10:18In every continuity,
10:20the mask of genius allows him to get away with intellectual and complex crimes
10:24that constantly give Batman a headache.
10:27Here at Arkham, we have a number of intensive treatment programs.
10:32I am more than confident that we'll be able to facilitate your rehabilitation.
10:40You're mighty in Gotham, Batman,
10:42but in Wonderland, the Mad Hatter reigns supreme!
10:47Jervis Tetch is known for his affinity for mind control
10:50and Lewis Carroll's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland.
10:53In One World, he's a shy scientist at Wayne Industries.
10:57After becoming obsessed with his secretary Alice,
11:00he uses mind-control chipped cards
11:02to turn her and his enemies into mindless robots.
11:05There's also a live-action version of the character
11:08who uses his background as a professional hypnotist
11:11to control the minds of unlucky Gothamites.
11:14If you let me leave with my dear sister, my dear Alice,
11:20then I'll free you from that nasty little impulse.
11:25He often employs the terrible tweeds as muscle
11:28that Batman often has to deal with.
11:30If you think a guy who's a little too into Alice in Wonderland isn't a threat,
11:34just talk to one of his many mentally scarred victims.
11:37I don't know what I would ever do if I lost you.
11:42That connection, it keeps me sane.
11:57The deadly marksman who never misses
11:59first appeared in 1950's Batman No. 59.
12:02Deadshot, oddly dressed in a tuxedo and top hat,
12:05arrived in Gotham City as a new vigilante crime fighter.
12:09His true aim was to become a new kingpin of crime.
12:13It's over, Deadshot.
12:15I don't want to do this in front of your daughter.
12:17After the dynamic duo locked him up,
12:19he became more known as a hired assassin with a much better outfit.
12:23Deadshot's incredible skill with weapons
12:25and off-the-charts accuracy has the Dark Knight
12:28wary of stepping into his crosshairs.
12:30Fortunately, the villain is often drafted onto Task Force X
12:34to solve problems for Amanda Waller.
12:36But whenever he crosses paths with Batman on a mission,
12:39you can bet that the bullets will fly.
12:43Talk!
12:44Why are you here?
12:46Amanda Waller wanted the Riddler dead.
12:49Waller?
12:53Terrific.
12:54Just what I need now.
12:56A freak job in the Cape.
12:59You're no prize yourself.
13:01Killer Croc, a.k.a. Waylon Jones,
13:04suffered from a rare genetic condition
13:06that gave him rougher-than-normal skin.
13:09Over time, he becomes more animalistic in nature.
13:12Batman has unfortunately been on the wrong end
13:15of Killer Croc's teeth more than once.
13:17Thanks to his inhuman strength and endurance,
13:20overpowering him is no easy feat.
13:23Batman usually has to rely on his wits
13:25to come up with ways to stop him
13:27before the villain can find more prey.
13:29But Killer Croc has also been seen through a sympathetic lens
13:32as a desperate man rejected by society.
13:34I wanted you to sweat it out in a cell for a while like I did,
13:39to know what it feels like the way I do.
13:42Whether he's portrayed as a lonely man or an all-out beast,
13:45the Caped Crusader generally tries to avoid
13:48going for a swim with this villain.
13:50They used to call Killer Croc
13:53the meanest dude in the wrestling federation.
13:56Now they'll call him the guy who iced the Batman.
14:03Man of Gotham!
14:05I have funded you.
14:07I've protected you.
14:09I've scratched your backs and kept you out of jail.
14:12Just like Bruce,
14:14Roman Sionis came from a wealthy Gotham family.
14:17But thanks to awful and self-absorbed parents
14:20and bad business decisions,
14:22the villain dove off the deep end.
14:24I know what everyone says.
14:26Here comes Roman Sionis.
14:28He was handed life on a silver spoon.
14:30Gin and tonics at five,
14:32all of the duck, blah, blah, blah, fake.
14:34Sionis slayed his parents
14:36and used pieces of his dad's casket
14:38to create his iconic black mask.
14:40The villain and his false face society
14:42quickly grew into a huge problem for Gotham.
14:45And since Sionis has severe anger issues,
14:48standing near him feels like hanging around a bomb
14:51that can explode at any time.
14:53Black Mask's intimidating look and personality
14:55are a constant reminder of what Batman would have become
14:58had circumstances been darker.
15:00While Bruce uses his money to better Gotham,
15:03Sionis uses his wealth to bring Gotham down
15:05to his twisted level.
15:07What have I got to show?
15:10My own men and the Slammer?
15:12I'm no more.
15:14Tonight, we're making some changes.
15:19You're going to keep stealing, Robin.
15:21And you're going to keep getting that thrill.
15:24And sooner or later,
15:26you will see things my way.
15:28Slade Wilson was a high-ranking member of the U.S. Army
15:32before he underwent experiments
15:34that turned him into a super soldier.
15:36He eventually began a secret career
15:38as a mercenary called Deathstroke.
15:40Since Wilson has incredible intelligence,
15:42enhanced physical abilities,
15:44and mastery of a wide range of weapons,
15:46he is an absolute nightmare for the Bat and his allies.
15:50I know your family is very anxious for you
15:52to complete your work.
15:54I will, soon.
15:56Make it happen, Dr. Langstrom.
15:58It will be best for everyone if you do.
16:01Deathstroke has a long history
16:03of targeting Robins specifically.
16:05His cold and calculating nature
16:07allows him to come up with long-term plans
16:10that whittle his enemies down physically and mentally.
16:13By the time Deathstroke comes to finish off most targets,
16:17they've often already lost.
16:19Fortunately, Batman and his allies
16:21have the courage and strength
16:23to keep this mercenary from collecting his latest bounty.
16:26Another day, Robin.
16:30Another day.
16:33Are you here already?
16:34What are you talking about?
16:35What do you mean, what am I talking about?
16:39Hush.
16:40Before Tommy Elliott became a brilliant surgeon,
16:43he was a childhood friend of Bruce Wayne.
16:45But the two could not have been more different
16:47underneath the surface.
16:49After Bruce got in his way several times,
16:51Tommy grew obsessed with bringing down the Dark Knight.
16:54In several realities,
16:56Elliott wrapped bandages around his head
16:58and operated as the villain Hush.
17:00I take it you're here to stop me?
17:02What do you think?
17:03I think you're too late.
17:05You're a killer.
17:06A psychopath.
17:07I will stop you.
17:09Since the antagonist often knows his old friend is Batman,
17:12he can mess with both of Wayne's identities.
17:14There are versions of the character
17:16who have even surgically modified their face
17:20Hush's obsessive nature,
17:22willingness to do anything to hurt the hero,
17:24and knowledge of the Caped Crusader's identity
17:27have made him a villain who's very capable of silencing the Bat.
17:30I don't care if you do.
17:32Wayne will suffer,
17:34and you will not stop me.
17:41Beware the court of owls
17:43that watches all the time,
17:46gazing from the shadows.
17:48Behind cement and lime.
17:51The court of owls mainly consists of members
17:54of Gotham's wealthiest and oldest families.
17:56They often use violent means
17:58to keep the city under their powerful influence.
18:01While Bruce avoids being recruited by the sinister society,
18:05Batman has to deal with the court's chosen talons.
18:08These lethal assassins excel
18:10at bringing down anyone that offends the owls.
18:13Welcome, Batman, to the court of owls.
18:16We've been expecting you.
18:18What makes the court and their talons
18:20so impressive as Batman foes
18:22is how important they've become in a short time.
18:25After first appearing in 2011,
18:27the court has played vital roles
18:29in everything from animated movies
18:31to live-action storylines.
18:33Unfortunately for Bruce,
18:35it doesn't look like the owls will fly away anytime soon.
18:38The ruling council has decided to suspend
18:41all court activity in order to focus our attention
18:44on the preparations at hand.
18:46Gotham's judgment is imminent.
18:52The role of this mud monster has been played
18:54by many people who have a variety of powerful abilities.
18:57However, the version of the character
18:59most fans are familiar with
19:01was an actor who encounters a special substance
19:04that allows him to shapeshift at will.
19:06But his transformation often leaves him
19:09stuck in a mud-like base form.
19:11It won't work. Don't you see? It's too hard.
19:14It's like tensing a muscle.
19:16I can't keep it up for long.
19:18My career, my life, it is gone.
19:22Clayface's ability to become virtually
19:24whoever and whatever he wants
19:26makes it extremely easy for him
19:28to hide from the world's greatest detective.
19:30If that wasn't bad enough,
19:32he can alter his size and shrug off blows
19:35that would easily take down most foes.
19:37While Clayface is capable of playing many roles,
19:40his most famous job is being
19:42one of Batman's most difficult enemies.
19:44Hagen, listen to me.
19:47There is no Hagen. It's only me now.
19:50Clayface!
19:55This is nice.
19:57You're still conscious.
20:01You can still feel?
20:03One of Batman's most deranged foes
20:05is unquestionably Victor Zsasz.
20:07This supervillain likes to keep count
20:09of how many people he's slain by making new scars.
20:12And if you glance at Zsasz's body
20:14for more than a few seconds,
20:16you might be horrified about how many he has.
20:19I'm saving a special spot for you.
20:23Right here.
20:25Unlike other Batman adversaries,
20:27this villain doesn't wear a colorful costume
20:29or plan many theatrical schemes.
20:31Zsasz is quite simply a man who loves
20:34increasing his body and scar counts
20:36for money and pleasure.
20:38This villain has been a hired hitman
20:40for many of Gotham's worst criminals over the years.
20:43Every time Zsasz shows up in the city,
20:46Batman and his allies unfortunately
20:48know just how the villain got all of his scars.
20:50I'm not in the mood tonight, Zsasz.
21:01Number 10, Joe Chill.
21:03I can even the score for you with Thomas Wayne.
21:05He's the reason you're in here, not me.
21:07I'll make sure he suffers, him and his whole family.
21:11We've seen it time and time again.
21:14The pearls, the bullets, the fleeing gunman.
21:17But the man behind the gun that typically
21:19ends Thomas and Martha Wayne's lives
21:21is often overlooked.
21:22Depending on the adaptation,
21:24Joe Chill is anything from a common crook to a hitman.
21:27Whatever his formal profession or backstory may be,
21:30he is ultimately the one who fires on the Waynes.
21:33You are the slinking coward
21:35who murdered Thomas and Martha Wayne.
21:38That was a lifetime ago.
21:40The criminal's brutal actions inspire Bruce
21:42to don the cape and cowl as Gotham's hero.
21:44While Chill initially gets away,
21:46he often pays a terrible price for his crimes later on.
21:50No matter how the villain's life ends,
21:52he's commonly the one there when Batman begins.
21:55Funny, because I started you off as Batman,
22:00those other mugs made me pay.
22:05You're an unstable lunatic, Penguin,
22:07and people are gonna see right through you.
22:10I've got the judges, the unions, the GCPD,
22:13and a whole team of legal experts behind me.
22:16What do you got?
22:18I have me.
22:20To the surprise of many Gothamites,
22:23Oswald Cobblepot became one of Gotham City's
22:25most prolific gangsters.
22:27Whether he has bird-like features
22:29or just wears black and white,
22:30enemies typically underestimate him
22:32and think calling him Penguin was funny.
22:34But Cobblepot's actually a master manipulator
22:37who knows the value of information.
22:40He can easily blackmail others
22:42or use gossip to set enemies against each other.
22:45To govern this city, one should be legally elected,
22:49which is why I, Oswald Cobblepot,
22:51announce my candidacy for the office of mayor.
22:55And I demand, and the people demand,
22:58that an emergency election be held forthwith.
23:01While Penguin isn't a physical match for Batman,
23:03the villain has plenty of tricks up his suit sleeves.
23:07Cobblepot can utilize trick umbrellas,
23:09hire thugs to fight the Dark Knight,
23:11or concoct a long-term plan that puts him on top.
23:14While people still might assume Penguin
23:16is harmless at first glance,
23:18Batman will never make that mistake.
23:20What do you want?
23:22Ah, the direct approach.
23:24I admire that in a man with a mask.
23:28Number 8. Scarecrow
23:42Jonathan Crane's childhood trauma
23:44made him obsessed with fear
23:46and the idea that he could control it one day.
23:48While he was ruining his reputation
23:50by experimenting on people,
23:52he developed a fear toxin.
23:54This hallucinogenic drug
23:56can make even Batman's worst nightmares
23:58feel extremely real.
24:00Since the Dark Knight also uses fear as a weapon,
24:02Scarecrow is his perfect psychological match.
24:17Crane is a big enough threat
24:19when he just has his fear toxin and creepy mask.
24:21But there are some versions that choose
24:23to become even more dangerous
24:25by using themed weapons like scythes.
24:27Each and every time an armed or unarmed Scarecrow
24:30shows up in Gotham,
24:32Batman is tasked with overcoming fear itself.
24:40Number 7. The Riddler
24:52One of Batman's best-known villains
24:54is Edward Nygma.
24:56He's the man with all the answers
24:58and the questions.
25:00Well, more specifically, riddles.
25:02But don't let his seemingly silly love
25:04for brain teasers fool you.
25:06While the Riddler isn't the most intimidating rogue
25:08to look at,
25:10a few of his twisted schemes
25:12have left Batman puzzled.
25:14The narcissistic megalomaniac Nygma
25:16likes to use his genius to come up with puzzles
25:18that put others in great peril.
25:25He doesn't care who gets hurt
25:27in his pursuit to prove that he is
25:29one of the smartest people in Gotham.
25:31In some iterations,
25:33Riddler becomes smart enough to figure out
25:35who Batman really is.
25:37There's really no question as to why Nygma
25:39is such a problem for the world's greatest detective.
25:55Number 6. Two-Face
25:57Harvey Dent was once a successful
25:59district attorney that was close
26:01to Bruce Wayne and Jim Gordon.
26:03While the legal-minded man's noble efforts
26:05earned him public adoration,
26:07he secretly had a dark side.
26:09In many versions of his story,
26:11the suppressed anger Dent kept contained
26:13for years boils to the surface
26:15when half his face is scarred.
26:17He soon becomes a dichotomous villain
26:19named Two-Face who leaves both mundane
26:21and brutal decisions up to
26:23the flip of a coin.
26:37What makes this villain stand out
26:39in Batman's rogues gallery is his
26:41truly tragic journey.
26:43Although he wanted to save the city,
26:45his suffering turned him into one of
26:47Gotham's biggest threats.
26:49Batman's reminded of the dear ally
26:51just whenever he looks at Dent's face.
27:04While the alluring Poison Ivy insists
27:06that she only wants to save the environment,
27:08Batman knows that she's one of his
27:10deadliest foes.
27:12She often sees humanity as an obstacle
27:14in her goal to save nature.
27:16When Poison Ivy isn't using her masterful
27:18ability to command plant life,
27:20she's utilizing her powerful pheromones
27:22to control people's behavior.
27:32She can ensure that everyone
27:34from the Dark Knight to the Man of Steel
27:36does what she wants.
27:38And Poison Ivy's incredible power set
27:40makes it very difficult for Batman
27:42to fight her. Although she
27:44absolutely does not need help,
27:46she has a habit of teaming up with fellow
27:48villains and anti-heroes.
27:50Poison Ivy has definitely blossomed
27:52into a supervillain we can't take
27:54our eyes off of.
28:12Mr. Freeze has one of the saddest
28:14origins of any Batman
28:16adversary. In many continuities,
28:18cryogenic scientist Victor
28:20Freeze is completely focused on
28:22finding a cure for his terminally
28:24ill wife Nora. After cryogenically
28:26freezing her to preserve her life,
28:28he has an accident with icy chemicals
28:30that requires him to wear a special
28:32suit to survive. Mr. Freeze's
28:34desperate need for money and
28:36quests for revenge against old enemies
28:38causes him to run into Batman
28:40countless times.
28:46It's my concern now.
28:48Since you ally yourself
28:50with my enemies, you leave me
28:52no choice. However,
28:54the Dark Knight frequently wants to help
28:56instead of hurt the Doctor.
28:58Although Freeze has occasionally worked
29:00with Batman, the Doctor's desire
29:02to do anything for Nora always
29:04wins out. This tragic antagonist
29:06will embrace the darkness
29:08if it means saving his wife.
29:10I can only beg
29:12your forgiveness and
29:14pray you'll hear me somehow.
29:16Someplace.
29:18Number 3. Ra's Al Ghul
29:20Here is your legacy, Damien.
29:22Here is your
29:24inheritance.
29:26The League of Assassins.
29:28Serving as the mystical leader
29:30of the League of Assassins, Ra's Al
29:32Ghul seeks to eradicate humanity's
29:34evil. Unfortunately,
29:36he believes fixing the world is worth
29:38destroying institutions, cities,
29:40and people.
29:42Variants of Ra's tend to have centuries
29:44added to their lives after bathing in Lazarus
29:46pits. This act has given
29:48the villain plenty of time to master
29:50martial arts that worry Batman.
29:52Despite constantly clashing with the Bat,
29:54Ra's Al Ghul respects the hero.
29:56My admiration for you was
29:58well-founded, Detective.
30:00Too bad I can't say the same.
30:02Shall I dispatch him, Master?
30:04No. The League of Assassins
30:06leader even wanted Batman as his
30:08successor. But the closest
30:10Ra's got was seeing his daughter Talia and
30:12Bruce have a son named Damien.
30:14Unsurprisingly, the boy's birth didn't
30:16fix everything. As long as Ra's'
30:18evil plots put innocent lives in
30:20danger, Batman will stop him.
30:22Perhaps, Detective, it is time that you
30:24and I finally finish this.
30:26It is the only chance you will
30:28have to stop that satellite.
30:30Number 2. Bane.
30:32Theogicality and deception.
30:34Powerful agents to the
30:36uninitiated. But we are
30:38uninitiated, aren't we, Bruce?
30:40Members of the
30:42League of Shadows.
30:44The man famous for breaking the Bat is
30:46often the bane of Batman's existence.
30:48This villain's path to evil started
30:50when he was forced to grow up in a
30:52brutal prison to pay for his father's crimes.
30:54After spending years sharpening
30:56his body and mind, he took part
30:58in experiments for a drug known as
31:00Venom.
31:02Stupid old Bat.
31:04My Venom is stronger.
31:06This substance improved his
31:08physical strength so much that he
31:10became a gigantic problem for
31:12most heroes. Although Batman
31:14can get around Bane's massive muscles,
31:16that's only half the equation.
31:18Since the villain's brain is as big as
31:20his biceps, the Dark Knight always has
31:22to be careful to avoid falling into a
31:24psychological trap. We don't think
31:26this villain will be satisfied until he
31:28permanently breaks the Bat.
31:30Tell me where the trigger is.
31:32Then, you have
31:34my permission to die.

31:54I don't want to kill you.
31:56What would I do without you?
31:58Go back to ripping off mob dealers?
32:00No, no.
32:02You complete
32:04me. Was there ever
32:06any doubt that the Clown Prince of Crime
32:08would stand at the top? Batman's greatest
32:10enemy has presented himself as
32:12a campy prankster, a crime
32:14kingpin, a trigger-happy maniac
32:16and more over time.
32:18But, Joker's one constant in
32:20every adaptation is that he is
32:22highly unpredictable.
32:24As Joker commits unspeakable crimes,
32:26Batman is always unsure whether
32:28the Clown wants to torment Bruce,
32:30decimate Gotham or just have fun.
32:32Silly goose, it's all
32:34a joke. Everything anybody's ever
32:36valued or struggled for,
32:38it's monstrous.
32:40Why can't you see the funny
32:42side?
32:44Why aren't you laughing?
32:46The fact that the supervillain's
32:48true origins are usually unknown
32:50makes him even scarier.
32:52Throughout the years, everyone from Mark Hamill
32:54to Heath Ledger has given us iconic
32:56takes on the character. The Joker's
32:58wild nature and fascinating
33:00relationship with Batman make him into
33:02a supervillain that always puts a
33:04smile on our faces.
33:06I think you and I are destined
33:08to do this forever.
33:10You'll be in a better jail forever.
33:12Maybe we could share one.
33:14Who's your favorite Batman villain? Who isn't
33:16the Joker? Let us know in the comments.
33:18You showed me all it takes
33:20is fear and a little
33:22focused violence.
