00:00 This quiet suburban street is now the centre of a major murder investigation.
00:07 Police say the victim was gunned down in his own driveway.
00:12 John Peter LaTorre was a well-known fruit and vegetable wholesaler.
00:16 It's a family business.
00:17 But today, they're grieving his loss.
00:20 The 64-year-old was killed around 4.30 this morning outside his home in Greenvale, north
00:25 of Melbourne.
00:26 Detectives say the 64-year-old was walking out of his garage on the way to work at his
00:31 fruit and vegetable business when he was shot, his family asleep inside.
00:36 They went outside to find him with fatal gunshot wounds.
00:40 I believe a family member heard what occurred outside and found the deceased in the driveway.
00:47 One was treated for shock.
00:49 Police have confirmed the victim is known to them and they won't exclude the possibility
00:54 of links to the Italian mafia.
00:56 Is it suspected to be a targeted attack?
01:01 We don't know at this stage.
01:02 Like I said, we're looking at the background of all persons involved or known to us that
01:09 may live in the area or associated with the deceased and then we'll review and assess
01:14 once we undertake those enquiries.
01:16 Officers are still piecing together how many suspects they're looking for.
01:20 They have ruled out links to Melbourne's tobacco shop fires.
01:23 They're asking anyone with information, CCTV or dash cam in the area to contact Crime Stoppers.
