00:02 Surprise! And welcome to a new episode of Surprise Guest with Pia Arcangel,
00:06 where we will all find out together who our surprise guest for today is.
00:11 We will guess them together using a set of clues.
00:16 I heard that I will get the clues one by one today because it's easy to guess who the guest is.
00:21 But sometimes, when I say it's easy to guess, I get nervous.
00:25 Okay, let's look at the first clue.
00:28 She loves the beach and all things tropical.
00:31 Okay.
00:32 To two bochog dogs and one bochog cat.
00:37 Cute naman. Hindi sila nag-aaway.
00:39 Okay.
00:40 Despite her name, Sunflower ang kanyang favorite flower.
00:46 So, that means flower yung name niya pero hindi Sunflower.
00:50 Multi-awarded Filipino-Australian actress and known internationally
00:55 for her critically acclaimed performance in the 2013 film, "Kadzat Alam Ko Na Ko Sino Ito."
01:01 I'm guessing that our surprise guest for today is none other than Jasmine Curtis-Smith.
01:06 Is that you?
01:08 Hi, it's me!
01:09 Hi, Jasmine!
01:10 Hello, Jasmine! How are you?
01:13 I'm great. Thank you. Thank you for having me.
01:16 What a wonderful morning and what a wonderful segment.
01:19 I love the surprise. I love it.
01:22 Naku, Jasmine, the guests always say they love that it's a surprise.
01:26 But I tell you, I get so nervous each time I try to figure out kun sino ang ating guest for today.
01:32 When they said, "Your favorite flower is Sunflower," something, okay.
01:40 Correct. That was a really good clue, actually.
01:42 A really good clue. Kasi if you think about it, parang hindi nga lang din ang may flower-based na pangalan sa showbiz.
01:49 I'm thinking, mayroon pa nga bang iba pa? Wait, Jasmine.
01:52 May rose ba? Rose?
01:54 Parang pang-family feud tong tanong na 'to.
01:56 Yes! I love that.
01:58 Speaking of, I surveyed, I watched your family feud. Congratulations!
02:04 Oh my gosh, sobrang clutch yung pagkapanalo namin doon.
02:07 Last minute, nabaway lahat ng points, Miss Pia.
02:10 Kaya talagang sabi ko, "Rainbird, nanalo ako last time. Kailangan mo nalo ulit. Maka ikaw pa yung maging dahilan."
02:18 And true eh, no? Miss Pia, alam nyo ba?
And yung suggestion ko, Miss Pia, was hilaw na ligo.
02:33 So, thank God, yung suggestion ng iba yung tinuhan namin.
02:40 Actually, nanonood kasi kami noon right before news.
02:43 Samin namin, "Pwede mo bag sabihin, hilaw yung kanin?" Isip kami ng isip. Baka hindi survey answer.
02:48 And true enough, tumama siya.
03:00 Yes!
03:10 Oo, parang same wavelength kayo.
03:12 Yes, yes.
03:17 Isda ba yun? Ano nga ba yung tanong?
03:19 Magbigay ng malangis na bagay.
03:23 So, ang sabi mo ay, "Isda."
03:25 Fish oil kasi.
03:27 Pwede!
03:29 Kaprika-aprito lang kasi, Miss Pia.
03:31 So, marami pang mantika.
03:34 Pero, in my head, kasi talaga pong unang pumasok na word is "malansa," not "malangis."
03:41 So, parang yung confusion na gano'n sounds like no word.
03:46 Yeah.
03:47 Di pala, jackpot pa rin naman.
03:49 Yes. Nakahabol pa rin po kahit pa paano.
03:52 Oo na.
03:54 But what's keeping you busy these days, Jasmine, aside of course from ang Asawa na Asawa ko?
03:58 Yes. And you know what?
04:00 We've been doing very well online for Asawa na Asawa ko, Miss Pia.
04:05 Napaka-thankful namin kasi yung viewers pataas ang pataas and very engaged.
04:19 So, other than that, I have two movies about the show.
04:23 So, I've been busy na umikot po mag-promote for both of them.
04:27 One of them being Three Days and Two Nights directed by Direk R.C. de las Reyes.
04:31 And I'm casted alongside Barbie Imperial atsaka si JM the Guest Man dito.
04:36 So, it's a story about two best friends from the province.
04:40 They both seek out their life after graduating.
04:43 Yung isa magiging successful Manila girl.
04:46 Yung isa naman magsistay behind sa province and seeks out opportunities abroad.
04:51 But before she leaves the country, meron siyang Three Days and Two Nights with her best friend sa poblacion.
04:57 So, they make the most out of their last time together.
05:00 Uy, ase sa poblacion talaga kayo nag-shoot.
05:02 Yeah.
05:03 [Laughs]
05:05 At nag-immersion pa kami bago mag-shoot.
05:09 So, uu, randam na randam ko po ang poblacion area and energy.
05:15 Iba po, ibang energy doon, Miss Pia.
05:18 How would you describe the energy?
05:20 Kasi nag-ano ako doon eh, nag-sudo ako one time.
05:23 Pero syempre nasa labas lang ako.
05:25 [Laughs]
05:26 Oh my gosh. Riot siya.
05:28 I mean, I went through my own phase of going out, partying.
05:38 And then, after long, ano talaga ako homebody with friends.
05:42 I'd rather have mag-kape-kape lang tayo o mag-syama sa bahay.
05:58 At just hindi kaya. Ayaw ko na rin pala ang pandaanan yung recovery period na usually pinagdadaanan the day after.
06:06 So, the energy is different.
06:08 Grabe naman ang three days and two nights kasi in Poblacion. Siguro kaya pa parang half night.
06:13 Half night!
06:15 11 uwi na tayo. Ganyan.
06:17 [Laughs]
06:18 Also, dito sa three days, two nights in Poblacion, which friend were you there?
06:22 Yung nag-abroad or yung nag-pursue dito ng opportunities?
06:26 Ako si mag-aabroad na friend. Pupunta ako ng Saskatoon, Canada.
06:31 So, yeah. So talagang libleb, libleb.
06:34 And yung dilemma dito is parang sa tagal na namin di nagkita in our journey sa tatlong araw na 'to at dalawang gabi sa Poblacion,
06:43 may encounter pa ako na long time crush. Tipong nasa high school pa kami.
06:50 And then that'll create some kind of conflict sa'min.
06:53 That's why we're trying to spend time together as best friends. Tapos here comes a guy, 'di ba?
06:58 So, yeah.
06:59 Very realistic, 'no?
07:01 Oh my gosh, yes!
07:05 Oo, I can imagine yung conflict na yun.
07:25 So, I'm sure mga mag-best friends dyan would love this movie.
07:29 Who else is with you in the film?
07:31 So with me, I mentioned earlier JM, 'no? And si Barbie.
07:35 But also we have then si Mercedes Cabral, we have Kaka'y Bautista,
07:39 and also a special appearance by drag queen, the laigon, Lady Morgana.
07:46 Lady Morgana!
07:47 So it's really fun.
07:48 Ayun, 'no?
07:53 Kasi yung pagka malambing niya, yung pagka motherly niya, it really applied well sa mga exegete.
08:00 May comic relief din ba?
08:02 Yes, of course. Actually, si Miss Kaka'y Bautista, sobrang huge comic relief niya in this story.
08:18 things start going wrong.
08:20 As in, kung saan-saan na kami napupunta.
08:29 Sino 'tong mga taong 'to? Ano'ng nangyayari sa katawan natin? Ano 'to?
08:34 So it's like a good mix of hangover, bridesmaids, feel-good, best friend, will-be.
08:42 Kayo ni Barbie, nakapagpablasyon kayo together as your immersion.
08:46 Yes, oh my gosh.
08:53 So, iniwan ko na siya.
08:55 Iniwan ko na siya. I think more of pina-uwi na nila ako. Hindi ko sila iniwan.
09:01 Pina-uwi na nila. Kahit hindi mo na kakaya. Uwi ka na.
09:04 Nakita nila, bakit ba? Inaantok ka na ba?
09:08 I think I was going to a different level na po of lasing.
09:22 Kailangan baka magtaka sila. Ito pa pala yung bar na 'to. Ganun na ako, ex-senadora doon.
09:28 Pero just to clarify, ito ay "In the name of research."
09:32 In the name of research. Yes. Purely, purely guys. Purely.
09:46 Opo. Na-todo eh. Kasi nga hindi na ginagawa. So, parang na-excite ako nung gabing 'to Miss Tia.
09:51 Yeah Barbie, let's go! Let's go!
She's really good at this.
09:59 She'll offer a round of drinks or shots and then akala mo kasi sabay mo siya, pero siya lang nag-offer.
10:06 So lahat ko nangyari sa shots. Hindi kanya sinabayan.
10:08 Hindi! Kaya I'm like, oh my gosh! Actually, parang ganun din yung characters namin in this film.
10:22 Wait, kanino idea na mag-immersion kayo before filming?
10:26 So, nag-direct par siya. Maybe direct RC de la 3. Yes!
The lifestyle, the people.
10:41 So, kasama siya nung nag-night out, nag-immersion kayo?
10:45 Oh yes! Kasi siya yung nakawawa ko Miss Tia.
10:50 Kasi siya yung responsible for me and Barbie that day.
10:54 Nakatawa!
10:56 Kayo ba ni Barbie friends na kayo even before you worked on this film together?
11:02 Or this was your first time to work together and to go out?
11:05 Yes, first time to work together and to go out. But I've known her previously through common friends.
11:12 But never talaga kaming nagkitrabaho even on any other film or TV.
11:17 So, it was a refreshing experience also to get to experience each other.
11:23 And nagulit lang talaga ako. Hindi niya ako palasin kag-inside on.
11:26 (Laughs)
11:29 Chicky girl!
11:30 Sabihin mo, pag ganun, nag-celebrate na kayo at the end of the film's run, labas ulit kayo.
11:36 Buta ulit kayo poblasyon.
11:37 Ako naman ngayon yung mag-offer.
11:38 Yes, ikaw naman mag-offer.
11:40 Baliktad naman tayo, please!
11:43 (Laughs)
11:44 Para ng quits, diba?
11:45 Yes, kailangan makabawi ako.
11:48 At this point in your life, Jasmine, when you go out with your friends, ano nabang ginagawa ninyo?
11:54 Hindi poblasyon levels.
11:56 Hindi na talaga. Nowadays, well kasi yung iba kong mga friends may anak na or bagong kasal.
12:04 So, talagang yung season na sila in their life.
12:06 So, I just visit them sa mga bahay or apartment nila.
12:10 Magluluto sila or kaya mag-take out na lang kami.
12:15 And then, kwentuhan na lang about anong nangyari in the last weeks or months sa buhay namin.
12:20 Kasi talaga pong, I think ever since pandemic also, nag-iba na rin, nag-shift na rin ang culture ng mga groups.
12:27 We enjoy each other's homes and just the simple things together.
12:34 Nice naman.
12:35 Atcha, actually, iba rin yung kwentuhan pag nasa bahay kayo, no?
12:38 It was all out with me. Walang lingon-lingon na may nakikinig ba. May nakatagin ba.
12:46 So, the intimacy feels better pang nasa bahay.
12:51 Oo, tsaka walang time limit din, 'di ba?
12:54 Yes, yes, exactly. Exactly.
12:57 What was the latest ever na ikaw ay umuwi from a night out with your friends?
13:12 Siguro pong mga 6 or 5 AM.
13:15 Wow, direto sa work? Galing ah.
13:30 So, I was trying to sneak in ng sobrang tahimik.
Tara, let's go."
13:49 Oh, no. Lagot tayo.
13:51 I went to a photo shoot at like 8 AM.
13:54 And then, I had a flight at 12 noon back to Australia. Panapon na yun.
13:59 So, wow!
14:01 Sarap siguro na tulog mo sa flight.
14:03 Pagsak. Buong 8 hours po, Miss Pia. Tinulog ko lang talaga sa flight.
14:08 So, okay din pala yung lumabas ka the night before a flight. Before a long flight.
14:12 Sulit. Sulit naman.
14:14 Oo, sulit na. So, at least pagdating mo dun, walang jet lag, jet lag. Kasi tinulog mo lang.
14:20 Purely awake. And ang nag-regret ko lang is nung nasa 8 AM ako na trabaho ko,
14:26 parang ako zombie. Parang naka-autopilot.
14:29 Pero yung mata mo, dead. Dead.
14:31 And I could see it dun sa photos na lumabas. Parang, "Oh, shucks. I'll never do this again."
14:38 I guess it's something na kailang pagdaanan in your youth, 'di ba?
14:42 Yes. Yes. I think so too.
14:44 Oh, but you know, speaking of Australia, because you still have family there, 'di ba?
14:48 So, madalas ang pag-uwi mo sa Australia.
14:51 Yes. At least once a year, if I can.
14:53 And then, actually, kakalipat lang din ulit nun ang dad ko. So, both my parents are now back in Australia.
14:58 Kami na lang ni ate yung nandito.
15:00 Oh, okay. San sa Australia? Sydney? Melbourne?
15:04 My mom is sa Melbourne. My dad naman po is sa Cairns, sa Queensland.
15:09 Oh, okay. So, once a year. But when you do go home, gano' kahaba ang iyong bakasyon?
15:16 I would say, kung kaya pong one month, nagpapaalam ako dun one month.
15:20 'Yun talaga, kailangan mo walang work, walang mapapasok na iba.
15:24 Parang sure akong hindi din, I don't want to be sad of work.
15:27 But at the same time, para may itodo ko rin yung time and makapag-planan ng mga small trips with mom.
15:34 Na drive-drive lang kami, or i-ticket lang in the city, gano'n.
15:39 But shortest times, you grow five days, if I can escape five days.
15:45 Pero kailangan nakaipon ako nun, Miss Pia, kasi mahal yung ticket 'yon.
15:48 Ang mahal niya. Tapos one month, 'di ba? Siyempre, gastos din 'yon.
15:53 Yes, correct. Siyempre, hindi na tayo teenager. We cannot rely on mama to provide all the grocery.
Oo nga, no? Good point. At least, ikaw yung nag-acknowledge nun.
16:08 Oh, yes.
16:09 Very mature. Pero how old were you when you were in Australia?
16:13 Sabi mo, at the age of 11, you moved to Australia, tama ba?
16:16 Apo. Yes, that's correct. Yes. And then, 'til I was two.
16:20 So your teenage years were spent in Australia.
16:23 Yeah, teenage years. And then, all my grade school years, from the age of two 'til 11, I was studying here sa Philippines, sa St. Paul, Pasig.
16:32 Okay. And was it a difficult adjustment for you nung nagpunta ka ng Australia at the age of 11?
16:38 Very much. So, ang hirap kasi mag-adjust dun. Number one, may accent sila. And although familiar ako na may tuan from my dad, hindi siya familiar enough for me na maging natural siya sa akin.
16:52 So, when I was in grade six there, kasi hinold back nila ako dun for one year para makapag-adjust ako sa culture.
17:01 And nagbabasa kami ng, what was it, a story about World War II. Lahat sila, "What's war?"
17:13 So, I go, "Oh, war. World War II." And they're like, "It's 'wo.' World War II."
17:20 And I'm like, "Oh, I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry." Parang, nang-nang-napo ako na 'to 'tong mag-pick up ng accent and mag-adjust para they understand me better.
17:30 So, the accent started thickening up. Kaya nakakatawa that some people are so surprised na mas fluent po yung Tagalog ko kaysa kay ate.
17:40 And mas natural yung paliba, switching ng English to Tagalog ko. But that's because of that experience of being here in grade school.
17:49 And so, moving there, yun nga po, accent and then also finding new friends at the age of 11 is hard.
17:56 And explaining where the Philippines is. They just know it's in Asia.
18:03 Oh, okay. So, ikaw pala ang naging poster child for the Philippines sa Australia. In your class, at least.
18:09 Exactly! Exactly! Ako na po ang ambassador ng Pilipinas. Ambassador. Ambassador. Messenger.
18:19 Walang R. Walang R talaga, no?
18:21 Wala talaga po. And mayroon pa eh. Parang pag may R, tapos vowel, parang kung curve, "water."
18:30 Oo, hindi ka pwede humingi ng water. Kailangan water.
18:34 Yeah. They get confused. Water? Water?
18:39 Tubig? Agwa? Agwa?
18:41 Agwa, agwa, agwa, agwa.
18:43 So, nung pumunta ka sa Australia and then you went to school there, was it a co-ed school? Kasi siya, St. Paul is an all-girls school.
18:50 All-girls, yes. And then I go ahead.
18:53 So, doble-doble yung…
18:55 Oo, yan.
Dun tayo maglalakad. Dun tayo tumamay."
19:16 So, it's very culture shock to be in a co-ed school kasi hindi ko alam paano maging friend sa lalaki no time na 'yon.
19:23 And then, unto high school na lang, I'm glad though kasi at least wala akong apprehension makipag-usapin sa mga lalaki or you don't think of it in a different light or manner na baka may ibang agenda yung lalaki.
19:37 So, how long would you say was your adjustment period?
19:41 Two years, maybe? Almost two years po. Opo.
19:50 Also, would you say ngayon na 50-50 ka? 50 Pinoy, 50 Aussie? Pantay lang ba?
19:57 I wouldn't say so. Hindi po matatanggal sa akin yung mga values na na-pick up ko din doon and yung mga traits na na-develop ko being there.
20:08 But also when I was there, hindi ko din talagang matanggal yung pagiging Pinoy, yung mga characteristics natin na pag-galag sa magulang, yung pag-galag sa teachers.
20:18 Oh my gosh!
20:21 Ang mga studyante doon na teenagers, not to say lahat po ah, but the level of respect na binibigay natin dito sa mga teachers at guru natin, incredible.
20:31 Iba yung disiplina natin dito, iba yung courtesy na pinaprovide natin as students.
They'll talk over her.
20:44 Nagsasalita yung teacher.
20:45 Oh yes. And they won't raise their hands, they'll just shout the answer, they won't wait to be acknowledged.
20:50 Yung small things like that that show our discipline or our respect sa teacher. Iba po talaga.
20:58 As in, yung parang, "Hala, bakit hindi sila napapagalitan?"
21:02 Tatawagin lang yung name and then quiet or stop that. Pag ako yung napapagalitan, nang bumugol, feeling ko to like, "Oh my gosh, demerit na 'to pag sa may penis 'to.
21:12 Demerit na sa report card ko 'to. Oh my goodness."
21:15 But yeah, one of the biggest culture shocks there.
21:25 I was a teacher's pep.
21:29 I took advantage of the opportunity. "Ala, lahat kayo. Buguluin nyo si miss. Ako lalapit."
21:36 Oo nga. Buti na lang 'to nagamit mo to your advantage. Dapat lang naman.
21:42 Gotta be wise, Miss Pia.
21:54 Sa bahay namin ngayon, we are about 20 minutes away from the beach.
22:00 But before, before, nung high school po ako, siguro one hour away. But not bad, kumpara sa dito.
22:07 If you drive one hour, nasa Metro Manila ka parin. Nasa EDSA ka parin, eh.
22:12 Oo nga. So kung gusto mo biglang, maisipan mo lang, "I wanna go to the beach today." Ganun lang kabilis, nandun ka na.
22:19 Yes, Miss Pia. I love it.
22:21 That's why sobrang relaxed ng mga taong dun. Sobrang nonchalant, I don't care. Whatever.
22:26 So, what are the traits of Jasmine that are very Aussie and what are the traits of Jasmine that are very Pinoy?
22:33 Five years tayong hindi nagkita.
22:42 Tapos, one year na ako bukas.
22:44 Nagbook ako ng hotel para sa atin.
22:47 Gaspadido or gido?
23:08 Kablayan mo ba tayo, Charlie?
23:10 Nakakala ko may understanding na tayo.
23:12 Uy, gusto ko talaga siya.
23:16 I'm just protecting you.
23:19 Gav, I thought you're my friend.
23:22 You ruined our friendship.
23:24 Hindi ako proud, okay?
23:26 Pero alam mo, favorite ka niya. Ikaw ang timiting mahala niya.
23:44 What are the traits of Jasmine that are very Aussie and what are the traits of Jasmine that are very Pinoy?
23:49 Oh, interesting.
23:51 Siguro sa pagiging Aussie, I'm very...
23:54 I can be very upfront and straight to the point, which can be intimidating sa mga Pinoy.
24:00 Or parang, uy, uy, teka na.
24:02 Walang lambeng yung ganon.
24:04 So nagugulit lang ba nata, minsan doon.
24:06 And then, I'm very relaxed.
24:09 Yung tipo, gusto kong nakiyapak sa heg, nakapaan, nararamdaman yung floor.
24:14 And yung mga Australians, they like to be bare feet.
24:18 Pag naglalakad sa kahit saan, ultimate grocery.
24:21 Nakapaan sila.
24:25 Pero I like to be...
24:26 Try mo dito.
24:27 Oh my God, baka tignan ako ng mga tao dito.
24:30 Anong ba 'yan?
24:38 And I like to be relaxed.
24:39 I like to be stress-free.
24:41 Not that Pinoys like to be stressed, no.
24:43 But I think naturally, yung pagka, yeah, okay, whatever, sige lang, yeah.
24:48 And then, maybe, pagdating sa food, Australians can be simple.
24:53 Very simple.
24:54 They like their fish and chips, their mga steak and fries.
24:58 I mean, not simple, no.
24:59 Mahal naman yung mga 'yon.
25:01 But yung baga, hindi sila maraming...
25:03 Ricados.
25:04 Si Ricados na nilalagay, parang ito na 'yon, as is, can be eaten na ganyan na.
25:09 So, may ganon po kong mga traits din as an Aussie girl.
25:14 But as a Filipina girl, no, number one talaga po, yung respeto sa mga elders.
25:19 Iba-iba talaga tayong mga Pinoy when it comes to that.
25:32 Even in Australia, I felt like it would be such a sin.
25:40 Paul! Kailangan respeto!
25:43 Oo, hindi kaya, Miss Pia.
25:46 And then, tangalawa po, I love rice.
25:49 I cannot eat a meal na walang rice.
25:51 Kailangan lagi may rice.
25:53 And siguro, if anything, Filipino cuisine talaga ang pinaka-favorito ko.
26:01 I cannot go without that.
26:03 And even throughout my high school years in Australia,
26:06 yun ang lagi kong marabaon or kinakaid.
26:18 Oh yes!
26:20 Especially yung namoy lang nila.
26:23 Parang they're intimidated na itry.
26:25 Parang takot sila kasi Filipino cuisine is not international for them yet.
26:29 So, parang may hesitancy.
26:31 Dapat niyan, bakit brown yung sauce?
26:35 That's not gravy.
26:37 It's not soy sauce.
26:39 It's toyo.
26:41 It's toyo, you know, like in the head.
26:44 So, it's hard to explain, no?
26:47 But, it's interesting, yeah.
26:49 Oh, okay.
26:51 I'm so amazed about how you're able to balance yung pagka-Pinoy
26:55 tsaka pagka-osi mo.
26:57 When you're here, I mean, kung wane, nakikita ka namin ng TV,
27:13 You know it.
27:14 Actually, it's just like that.
27:19 Excuse me!"
27:20 Hiwagan yan.
27:21 Okay.
27:22 Sometimes din dito, Miss Pia, kapag may British
27:25 or fellow Australian akong may encounter,
27:28 dumalabas din po naturally.
27:30 Parang ano na siya, "Oh, it's another fellow Australian.
27:34 Hello!"
27:35 Yung dito siya.
27:36 Parang muscle memory na siya.
27:38 Oo po.
27:39 Oo.
27:40 And so, what made you decide to come back to the Philippines?
27:43 Was it work immediately that made you decide to come back?
27:46 Actually, it was work talaga po.
27:48 I was 17.
27:49 I was finishing my year 11 studies in Australia.
27:53 At that time, I was visiting my sister for Christmas.
27:56 So, nagkakasimula lang ng show nila.
28:02 And for some reason, I don't know why,
28:04 nati-interest po sa'kin yung isang network.
28:07 They inquired if I'm interested.
28:09 And then, akala ko yung pinirmahan ko kasi,
28:13 I mean, my parents read it.
28:15 I thought, "Naintindihan ko."
28:17 But yun pala, hindi ko fully naintindihan.
28:19 Three years yung pinirmahan ko, po, trata.
28:21 I thought it was just one project.
28:23 So, when I realized that, po,
28:25 by the time I graduated year 12, the following year,
28:28 I had two more years left sa contract.
28:30 And I felt like, ang unfair ko naman po sa network
28:34 kung magsistay pa rin ako sa Australia,
28:37 tapos bayad nila ako,
28:38 and then hindi ko na-execute yung work.
28:40 So, that was the time I decided na,
28:42 I think I should come back to the Philippines
28:50 And then, we'll take it from there.
28:57 So, talagang ano lang kami noon,
28:59 tansya-tansya lang, Miss Pia,
29:01 kung ito na ba talaga.
29:03 So, you finished year 12, meaning senior high,
29:06 you finished it in Australia?
29:07 Australia.
29:08 Before moving fully here.
29:09 Yes. And then, I tried pa mag-entrance exam dito
29:13 for Ateneo.
29:15 Nakapasok once, em,
29:17 and then because hindi ko talaga kaya yung pagod noon,
29:20 and wala pang working hours noon,
29:22 so, I ended up afterwards, em,
29:24 taking an LOA,
29:25 and then signing up online na lang
29:27 to continue sana may tertiary or college studies na.
29:31 So, yeah.
29:32 So, what was your course?
29:34 In Ateneo, nag-apply po ako for communications,
29:37 and then, nung nag-sign up na ako online,
29:40 Open University ng Australia.
29:41 What did I take? Behavioral Studies naman.
29:43 Behavioral Studies.
29:45 So, napagsabay mo yung online school and your work?
29:49 Actually, still ongoing, Miss Pia.
29:51 Wow!
29:52 Still ongoing, yeah.
29:53 I'm taking it subject by subject kasi po,
29:55 and di kasi kaya ng budget.
29:57 [laughs]
29:58 Excuse me.
29:59 Di kaya ng budget, so, I'm taking it--
30:01 Bahal din, no?
30:02 Opo, subject by subject,
30:04 but at least the process is enjoyable,
30:06 hindi ko rin siya nirarush,
30:08 and sa kung anong kaya lang at the moment.
30:11 Sa akong anong kaya lang.
30:12 Wala naman siyang ano, parang you have,
30:14 I mean, the Open University doesn't say
30:16 that you have to finish it in a certain number of years.
30:19 No, that's the beauty.
30:21 Opo.
30:33 The Open University, they have, let's say, kunwari,
30:36 they have Athenaeon, LaSalle, UP, Adamson, et cetera,
30:40 and then, each university mag-offer ng course,
30:43 na pweding i-take online.
30:45 So, thankfully, these universities,
30:48 na meron sila on that Open University Australia,
30:51 very flexible, very, very flexible to all ages.
30:55 And no matter what age you are,
30:58 you can still sign up and take another course.
31:01 Ay, ang gale!
31:02 So, you chose a school to sign up to doon sa Australian Open University?
31:06 Yes. Yes po.
31:08 So, which university is that?
31:10 It's called Swinburne Technology, based siya sa Melbourne, actually,
31:14 so that if ever comes a point na pwede na po kong mag-half on campus,
31:20 tapos half online, at least malapit ako sa mama ko,
31:23 and I can just stay for her house na lang, yeah.
31:27 So, hopefully, nung mating sa point na yun,
31:29 yeah, I wanna be a student in a classroom ulit e.
31:33 Oo nga, ang galing doon ha.
31:35 So, would you say like you're halfway through,
31:37 or less than half, more than half?
31:40 Maybe a quarter, maybe a quarter.
31:48 Wow, oo, oo.
31:49 But so expensive!
31:50 But ang dami din, I think it'll make it easier once I'm in the course,
31:55 para I'm straight to the main subjects na po.
32:04 straight to the related subjects na siya.
32:06 Hindi na siya mga gen ed.
32:08 Shocks, Jasmine! Ang dami mong pinagkakaabalahan, no?
32:12 We try! We try, Miss Pia!
32:15 Is there anything else that keeps you busy aside from work and school?
32:20 I mean, do you have like a business,
32:22 or do you have other things that you like to do,
32:25 whether for work or pleasure?
32:27 Well, just recently, I purchased a lot in La Union.
32:34 So I'm trying po maghanap ng business idea and concept
32:37 na pweding i-develop for that.
32:39 And ayun, ipon mood!
32:41 Lahat ng asawa ng asawa ko ipon.
32:44 We'll go towards that.
32:45 So I'm really hoping, oo, I'm really hoping I find good business partners
32:50 and develop a solid concept.
33:12 So hopefully po, in the next 5-10 years, I can develop that.
33:18 And Miss Pia, I'll invite you there, ah.
33:20 Oh wow! Thank you.
33:21 Let's enjoy!
33:22 Alam mo, I have actually never been to La Union.
33:25 So, but, kasi, I don't know.
33:27 Ang feeling ko kasi is La Union is for a younger crowd.
33:30 But now that you're saying…
33:32 It's for families!
33:33 Kasi hindi ako nagsasurf or anything like that.
33:37 So pwede pa rin.
33:39 Pwede pa rin po.
33:41 Actually, if you're planning, for the listeners also of your podcast, Miss Pia,
33:48 It seems like it's a party town, surf town, you know, for the younger crowd.
33:53 But actually, lots of families go there and they bring their kids.
33:57 There are new places now that are far from the party town.
34:01 Pero still very much relaxing, still away from Manila.
34:06 You still feel like you're on a vacation.
34:08 And a lot of the nature spots there, aside from the beach, there's lots of waterfalls there, Miss Pia.
34:14 Sobrang dami pong magandang waterfalls.
34:17 And also good food.
34:18 Oh my God!
34:19 Best food at La Union.
34:20 Wow!
34:21 Opo talaga.
34:22 Shots.
34:23 I can give you recommendations.
34:24 I want.
34:25 Alam mo kasi yung ano.
34:31 I can give you all the places na hindi pang party, Miss Pia.
34:35 Ako kong bahala sa inyo.
34:37 Give me a list of recos, ha?
34:39 Para matryden namin yan na asawa ko.
34:41 Yes, yes, yes.
34:43 Para hindi ko na ma-out.
34:44 Para in den with the scene right now.
34:47 So bago kami pumunta na ang La Union, daan muna kami yung poblasyon.
34:51 Yun!
34:58 Oh goodness!
34:59 Oh my God!
35:00 Good luck!
35:01 Good luck!
35:02 Uy pero nice ha.
35:03 Parang you're really already preparing na.
35:05 Parang it's a sign of maturity they say, 'Di ba?
35:07 When you're making business plans or setting aside your savings.
35:11 Ganyan.
35:12 Yeah, yeah, yeah.
35:13 I think ano din po eh kasi I learn a lot also sa kilos ng ate ko.
35:20 You know kung ano din nakikita kung success niya with her finances.
35:25 I wanna figure out, I don't earn the same as her but I wanna save like her.
35:30 I wanna invest like her.
35:32 So yun po yung tinatry ko na ma-aral and ma-apply sa sarili.
35:37 Kasi my career is very different from my ate in the sense she's an all around.
35:42 She can do anything.
35:43 But ako kasi I'm very much, I'm an actress.
35:46 Sometimes I'll do mga brand engagements.
35:49 But hindi ako singlawak in terms of anything, anywhere like her.
35:53 So I have to be smarter.
35:55 I have to be wiser.
35:56 Kaya po talagang ngayon pa lang, even my partner Jeff helps me out with a lot of, ano ba, pag-aaral,
36:02 sa pag-invest.
36:03 Ito nga pong kung sa nakapatong yung phone ko ngayon, I have mga books na Investing 101,
36:09 Accounting 101.
36:19 Diba Miss Pia?
36:20 Oo.
36:21 And it's important talaga that you have friends and family who help you out, diba?
36:53 So, yan yung perfect combo ngayon na I know how to move my money pero the same time, wiser
37:00 ako with it kasi may nabasa na ako or may nagkwento na sa akin na kaibigan o tito o kaibigan
37:07 ni ganito na experience nila.
37:09 So, it becomes easier to apply sa sarili natin, diba?
37:13 And yun nga, when you surround yourself with people who are supportive of all the things
37:18 you do, all your endeavors, then that's a big help, diba?
37:21 Like you said, your partner si Jeff, he's very supportive.
37:25 Yes, super.
37:26 And he knows kasi may frustration talaga ako sa pag-aaral and I want to, I love being a
37:32 student.
37:33 I love, not pretending, but like starting from zero to asking all the questions.
37:38 I love that.
37:39 I love trying to get more out of you na information or wisdom.
37:43 So, when someone nurtures that, parang ang-angsaya sa feeling na pwede kang magtanong nang magtanong
37:50 at hindi siya mamasama enough.
37:53 Para kang walang alam sa life yung ganito.
37:55 So, would you say na at this point, is there still anything that you haven't tried that
38:03 you want to try?
38:04 Actually, more on mga physical activities, Miss Pia.
38:11 Like yung mga ginagawa ng tao na hiking and trekking for like almost how many, 72 hours
38:17 still?
38:18 72 hours?
38:19 Yeah, I want to try that.
38:26 and then they climbed up a mountain, in between mountains, tapos sansang lowland, nang tubig
38:32 sila napunta until they crossed the river.
38:35 And, you know, I saw her testimonial about it, how it really strengthens your patience
38:41 with yourself, yung control ng mga mood swings mo, control ng pagkapagod ng katawan or energy
38:51 na inexert.
38:52 So, I want to test din yung limits ko in terms of that.
38:56 Physically, lalo na I've transitioned from like hardcore workouts to yoga, I want to
39:02 see where it brings me naman kapag out in the wilderness naman.
39:13 So, I want to test my body and kung anong kakayaan niya sa labas.
39:19 Pwede gawin yun sa laun yun?
39:21 Trekking, tapos…
39:22 Ay, pwede!
39:23 Baka pwede!
39:24 Baraming mountains din doon, to hike.
39:26 You just gotta set the trails.
39:28 Yeah, you have to find the trail eh, no?
39:30 Mahirap yung pupuntahan mo wala pong nakapunta.
39:38 Jasmine, before we really let you go, I know you have a long day ahead of you, so thanks
39:41 for being with us, but surprise!
39:43 We have a game for you.
39:45 Okay, let me check.
39:46 The game is called, ooh, Three Days, Two Nights, because of your movie, Three Days, Two Nights
39:51 in Poblacion, but the game is called Three Days, Two Nights, Three Items and Two Companions.
39:57 Nako, may twist.
39:58 Ooh, interesting.
39:59 May twist.
40:00 Here's how it works, okay?
40:01 You have three days and two nights to visit the place, and you have to bring three necessary
40:06 items and two important companions with you.
40:10 Pero, bawal umulit ng sagot kada lugar.
40:14 Nako.
40:15 Okay, bawal ha, bawal umulit.
40:17 Ang dami pa naman ito.
40:19 Let's try.
40:20 Let's try.
40:21 Okay, so kailangan galingan mo yung first answer mo pala, kasi bawal mong balikan.
40:27 Okay, which three items and two companions would you bring with to Australia?
40:33 Three items.
40:34 Um, maleta.
40:35 Good answer.
40:36 Maleta.
40:37 Bahalan ako anong laman.
40:38 Passport.
40:39 Passport.
40:40 And, umbrella.
40:41 Kasi you never know when it's gonna rain or shine in Melbourne, so kailangan mo naman
40:45 ito.
40:46 Oh, nice, good answers.
40:50 Parang hindi mo kailangan umulitin niya.
40:54 E sino yung two companions?
40:56 Eh, nandun na kasi sila eh.
40:58 My younger sister, Charlie, she's still in Pampanga, so I'll bring her there.
41:03 And then, can I bring myself there?
41:05 Kumpanyan ko sarili ko, yung nene.
41:07 I'll bring Jeff, I'll bring Jeff to Australia.
41:09 Oh, sure ka, kasi baka may iba pang venue.
41:12 Change, change, change the answer.
41:16 I'll bring my manager, kasi taga Australia din yung kapatid mo.
41:19 Tinulungan kita don.
41:21 Thank you, Miss Mia.
41:23 Okay, on next.
41:25 Which three items and two companions would you bring with you to La Union?
41:29 Kaya naman pala.
41:31 Okay, well, easy.
41:33 Sunscreen, shades, and I'm gonna write cash tayo.
41:48 But not to say pamit signal doon, okay naman signal doon.
41:55 O, o, o.
41:56 Kasi may mga remote parts pa.
41:58 Okay, and your two companions?
42:00 My two companions would be Jeff, of course.
42:07 And then, so may bochog pets.
42:10 So as one unit na sila, parang tatlo sila.
42:13 O, mano, yun yung nasa clue natin.
42:15 Bochog ba talaga silang tatlo?
42:17 Yeah!
42:18 And that's also their Instagram name, the bochogs.
42:21 I like yun.
42:40 Ooh, that's the new thing now.
42:43 Okay.
42:44 But, syempre, it was very easy for you to say na si Jeff, yung unang mong dadahin sa La Union.
42:49 Of course, of course.
42:51 No brainer na po yun.
42:53 How long have you guys been together?
42:55 Oh, I think eight years.
42:56 Yeah, eight years total.
42:58 Ooh, tagana.
42:59 So long na pa.
43:00 Ooh, now I know why.
43:02 I remember, the question sa Family Feud was, "Ilang taon ang mag-boyfriend at girlfriend bago mo sabi na going strong sila?"
43:10 And your answer was seven?
43:12 Seven years, yes.
43:14 Yes.
43:15 Diba?
43:16 Kasi nasa eight na kami, kaya...
43:17 O, nasa eight na.
43:18 ...napas-napas na.
43:19 Mismo, yan ang basihan kami sa Tia. Yan talaga.
43:28 Kasi iniisip ko baka five, but you're right, seven.
43:31 Ah, diba?
43:32 Seven.
43:33 Pero top answer was ten.
43:34 Ten, yes.
In fairness.
43:42 Usually, diba, pag ten years, kasal na sila?
43:44 Correct.
43:45 Eka, sakto, lagpas ng seven year itch.
43:47 We made it to eight.
43:49 Yeah.
43:50 Exactly.
43:51 Okay, next.
43:52 Which three items and two companions would you bring to Siargao?
43:56 Ooh, Siargao.
43:57 Three things.
43:58 Tumbler.
43:59 Tumbler para may refillable time.
44:00 Re-fillable time ng tubig.
44:01 Okay.
44:02 Yes.
44:03 I will bring chinelas.
44:04 Kasi para sure, laging nakat-chinelas tayo.
44:06 Minsan nakayapak naman, pero parang may extra just in case.
44:10 And bikini.
44:11 Bikini.
44:12 Bikini, syempre.
44:13 Short time, may beach tayo.
44:15 Whether or not may surf, for sure we will go to the beach.
44:18 So, three items, and then two companions, my sister and Dalia.
44:23 Thank you.
44:24 Yeah, kasi I love Siargao eh.
44:26 Ooh.
44:27 Okay, so parang girl bonding na yan.
44:29 Yes.
44:30 Nice, nice answer.
44:32 And this one, second to the last na 'to.
44:38 Three items and two companions you would bring to the wedding venue of Christie and Jordan, sa asawa ng asawa ko.
44:46 Three things I would bring sa wedding ni Christie and Jordan would be, number one, posas.
45:07 Tissue.
45:08 Okay.
45:09 Ooh, essential.
45:10 Essential 'yon.
45:11 At pangatlo, retouch bag ni Christie.
45:14 Kasi para always pretty siya, 'di ba?
45:16 Ay, kailangan 'yan.
45:18 Kailangan ko 'yan.
45:19 And then sino yung kasama mo sa si Jordan?
45:21 Malamang nandunod si Jordan.
45:23 So, ikasasama ko si Mommy Carmen.
45:25 Kasi kailangan may ano tayo, may taga-barrier kapag dumadating yung iso malditang Shira.
45:32 And pangalawa, pangalawa si Tori, si baby Tori ni Christie and Jordan.
45:38 Of course.
45:40 I'm not mean wala siya.
45:41 I'm not mean wala siya.
45:42 I'm not mean wala siya.
45:43 I'm not mean wala siya.
45:44 I'm not mean wala siya.
45:45 I'm not mean wala siya.
45:46 I'm not mean wala siya.
45:47 I'm not mean wala siya.
45:48 I'm not mean wala siya.
45:49 I'm not mean wala siya.
45:50 So, yung baby na nag-portrayed nung, parang newborn na Tori, kapag nagtitipin kami and
45:57 then napapagon din kasi, o siyempre baby, no?
45:59 So, pag-ayaw niya na, no, no, no, no, no.
46:03 Kumaganong ko talaga yung baby.
46:05 So, we'll stop.
46:06 We'll wait siguro 30 minutes, an hour.
46:08 We'll do another scene first until mag-calm down yung baby.
46:11 And then, papayag naman eventually.
46:14 But pag-ayaw niya talaga, no, no, no, no, no.
46:16 With matching hand gesture pa talaga.
46:19 So cute.
46:20 Pero, ilang taon na si Tori ngayon?
46:22 Yung Tori ngayon?
46:23 She is in real life.
46:24 I believe she's 10.
46:25 10 years old.
46:26 Mga 10 na.
46:27 Okay.
46:28 Ang galing naman.
46:29 Okay.
46:30 So, last na 'to.
46:31 Three items to two companions that you would bring to poblacion.
46:35 Three items to bring to poblacion.
46:38 Parasetamol.
46:39 Kasi, parang sure, bago ka umuwi, no?
46:51 And, pangatlo, alam mo siguro magdadala ako portable fan, yung handheld na fan mo.
46:56 Yung SPF.
47:03 So, oo, hindi, pawis.
47:08 So, parang kailangan natin ng refreshing air.
47:11 So, portable fan.
47:12 And ang dadalhin kong guest.
47:14 Well, actually, ang unong, numero uno kung gusto ng dadalhin from our cast is si Kakai Bautista.
47:20 Kasi, kasi, kento ko siyang makasamang malasing this time.
47:23 I wanna see her in her actual party mode.
47:27 So, I bring her.
47:29 And then, pangalawa, since I've already partied with Barbie, ngayon naman I wanna party with Lady Margarita.
47:36 And see how the laigon becomes the la-go-n.
47:42 Oo nga, yung accent niya, ganun pa rin.
47:45 Yung malambing na, ano.
47:47 Oo.
47:48 Wow.
