A man has been found guilty of the murder of Matthew Daulby in Ormskirk. Nineteen-year-old Matthew was found with stab injuries near Railway Road on 29 July and died a short time later in hospital. Henry Houghton, now 19, of Scarisbrick, denied murder but was convicted by a jury at Preston Crown Court.

Traders will be given until the end of the month to remove their stock from St Johns Market after its shock closure. Staff and shoppers were left outside drawn shutters and locked doors on Monday when the city council shut the historic market over a dispute over rent and service charges.

Crime across Merseyside has fallen by 13% in the past year, with significant decreases in gun discharges, knife crime and burglary. According to latest figures, firearms discharges decreased by more than 50% in 2023, and theft from members of the public reduced by more than 20%.
