William praises Diana’s legacy at charity anniversary event

The Prince of Wales has said that his mother taught him that “everyone has the potential to give something back”, as he paid tribute to her at the Diana Legacy Award. William attended the event at the Science Museum in London on Thursday night in person, where he gave a speech to mark the charity’s 25th anniversary. Report by Covellm. 00:58 >> Good evening everyone.
01:00 And I'm thoroughly delighted as always to be here
01:04 to recognize the transformational achievements
01:07 of 20 exceptional young people from across the world.
01:10 Each and every one of their stories,
01:13 which you will hear shortly, are testament to their character,
01:18 their passion, and their determination to make a lasting
01:22 and meaningful difference to the lives of others.
01:24 The paths taken by these young people have not always
01:28 been easy.
01:29 Many have overcome adversity and prejudice, but they are driven
01:34 by courage, compassion, and commitment,
01:37 qualities shared by my mother.
01:39 Their stories remind us of the importance of organizations
01:45 like the Diana Award.
01:47 I've seen on many occasions
01:48 over the years how this charity empowers
01:51 and mobilizes young people to take action
01:54 and make the changes they want to see in their communities
01:58 and in the world around them.
01:59 Over the next two years, the Diana Award, alongside many
02:05 of their partners here today, will equip these young people
02:09 with the skills to have an even bigger impact.
02:12 I'm excited to see what they can all do together.
02:16 But this evening's Legacy Award is particularly special
02:20 as it marks the 25th anniversary year of the Diana Award,
02:24 a charity set up to reflect my mother's belief
02:28 that young people can change the world.
02:31 I know that she would have been honored to see a charity
02:36 in her name doing such inspirational work
02:38 to uplift young people from all corners of the globe.
02:41 She taught me that everyone has the potential
02:46 to give something back,
02:47 that everyone indeed deserves a supporting hand in life.
02:51 That legacy is something that both Catherine and I sought
02:56 to focus on through our work,
02:57 as have the 50,000 young people who have received the Diana Award
03:02 over the past 25 years.
03:03 I'm incredibly proud to see this manifested
03:09 in the amazing young people receiving the Legacy
03:12 Award tonight.
03:12 Thank you, and have a good evening.
