00:00 How do you feel about the defeat to Kovacic?
00:03 It's for sure not the ending that I wanted, but playing against him is always tough.
00:12 I tried to play good tennis, which I've done, especially the first set.
00:20 Then I made a couple of mistakes.
00:23 The momentum has changed, he raised his level.
00:28 That's it, obviously a tough one to swallow.
00:33 Hopefully we'll see in the next days if physically I'll be good for Miami,
00:41 which is for me personally the most important.
00:44 I'm really happy for him because he's a really great player, a good guy.
00:52 That's it.
00:56 Jannik, how much pride has the 19 consecutive wins given you?
01:01 I don't think so much about that.
01:08 I've been positive throughout these winning streaks.
01:16 Positive even now because I lost in the semis of Union Wales,
01:21 which is still a great result.
01:25 Now the next tournament is Miami, so I'm focused on Miami.
01:30 For sure it's tough that it has to end like this here.
01:34 For me this is a really special place to play in.
01:38 I feel grateful for what I'm doing.
01:43 Jannik, what happened with the left leg that you were flexing?
01:49 And how is the left wrist when you took that tumble at the net?
01:56 You said physically you feel you'll be OK, but how are you feeling at the moment?
02:02 At the moment I feel a little bit of everything on my body.
02:10 But it's normal, it's sport, you have to accept this.
02:15 I had some problems, small problems, but it was OK until the third set.
02:25 When I fell I felt a little bit the elbow because I fell over the elbow.
02:31 I rolled over, so it was tough to serve.
02:36 He makes things very difficult to play, obviously.
02:40 It puts a lot of pressure on you.
02:45 He changed a couple of things today, tactically,
02:48 which I have to watch out for the next time.
02:52 I have to improve a couple of things and try to beat him again.
02:57 I think that's also the good and positive side of this sport.
03:08 In your rivalry with Carlos, have there been periods
03:12 where one of you feels like "OK, I have figured him out"?
03:18 Do you feel like you have the edge?
03:20 Or does it start all over again with every match?
03:24 It depends how much time passes from one time you play until the next one.
03:31 Last year we played here, then we played in Miami.
03:34 There are not so many real practice sessions to try to improve a couple of things.
03:44 Then after we didn't play anymore for a little bit,
03:47 then we played in Beijing.
03:49 I think that's a bigger test to see how everything is.
03:55 Today was also a bigger test because we haven't faced each other for a little bit.
04:02 This makes things really fun.
04:05 Maybe there is one day where one of us wins three or four times in a row.
04:11 Then the opponent or the other one has to try to adjust a little bit.
04:17 Try completely new things.
04:20 Maybe it goes completely wrong and you lose 6-1, 6-1 or whatever.
04:24 I think that's good to see for me and trying to grow in the future.
04:32 Janek, Carlos seemed to adjust his return position in the deuce court in the second set.
04:41 Backed up, moved to the right.
04:43 You're a very good slider you weren't using anymore.
04:49 Can you talk a little bit about that?
04:51 Did you notice that he had moved around?
04:54 You started going up to Timur.
04:56 Of course, I could see where he was returning for sure.
05:01 You also tried to get a little bit into his head.
05:06 Someone who is returning far back is expecting the ball on the right side,
05:11 but then you're on the left side.
05:13 If the first point you go here, the second point you might go the other way.
05:18 You try to figure out what's the best shot in the right time.
05:23 I guess today I had to do a couple of things better.
05:28 But this is, as I said, also the fun part.
05:33 Next time I will be prepared, or at least I try to be more prepared for these kinds of things.
05:40 We'll see how it goes.
05:43 Is there a specific element of your game today that you were most disappointed with?
05:48 Is there an element of Carlitos' game that you were maybe most impressed with?
05:52 Look, now he's shown already so many things that for sure you are always impressed
05:59 when you play against him.
06:01 But you are also prepared for certain shots, drop shots.
06:07 He's moving really, really fast, as we know.
06:10 Especially on this court where the ball bounces really high,
06:13 it's not easy to play against him because he can play with a lot of spin.
06:18 What I have missed today is that I was too predictable at some point.
06:23 I was doing the same things over and over again, which in my mind let me down.
06:31 I was playing really good the first set.
06:35 Then when you see your opponent struggling a little bit,
06:40 I try to stay solid instead of trying to move around.
06:46 I was too predictable at some points.
06:48 I think that's the lesson for today.
06:51 We will work on certain things and hopefully I will get better.
07:02 Jannik, the match, especially the way you played it for the first set and a half,
07:07 was extraordinary tennis.
07:10 Despite losing the match, is it a type of match that you can enjoy
07:15 when you're in the middle of the heat of the battle?
07:19 Of course. This is one of the best places to play tennis.
07:26 It's a packed stadium, two young players trying their best.
07:32 This is fun to play there.
07:36 For sure you want to win, but there will be occasions in the future
07:43 where you win some and you lose some.
07:47 There's nothing you can do about it.
07:50 The most important part is that you give 100%,
07:54 which I've done today.
07:56 I was struggling in the third set, but he used it as his advantage.
08:03 Then that's it.
08:06 I enjoy these kinds of matches.
08:09 That's also why I practice for now.
08:12 What has Darren said to you?
08:20 I know Simone is not here, but what did Darren say to you?
08:23 Has he spoken to you much?
08:25 We were just talking in the locker room.
08:29 For sure we have to talk a little bit more, but that's what I said.
08:34 He agreed that I was a little bit too predictable.
08:42 Tennis is a sport of balance.
08:46 You're going hard and sometimes you have to slow down a little bit.
08:52 Today I missed a lot of forehands.
08:57 Usually I try to be aggressive, but today I made mistakes.
09:05 We have to understand why.
09:08 That's it. I think it was still a great match.
09:13 I think we both played really good.
09:16 There were some entertaining rallies.
09:19 That's it.
09:22 He deserved to win today.
09:25 I wish him good luck in the final.
