00:00 As one of Oregon's highest recruits in recent classes,
00:03 Jurion Dickey, former five star wide receiver,
00:06 heads into his second year in Eugene, and he is drawing some praise
00:10 in spring football.
00:11 The Ducks have held two of their 15 spring practices.
00:13 Now we all know they are going on a break until April 2nd.
00:16 And then it is, you know, all gas, no breaks until the spring game on April 27th.
00:21 But Roman, I wanted to talk about Jurion because there's this
00:24 there's this perception, I think, with fans that when you see that five star rating,
00:28 you always expect them to see the field early, make a big impact,
00:33 whatever it is, but it takes time.
00:36 And that was really kind of at the essence and the core of what Will Stein,
00:40 Oregon's offensive coordinator, had to say about Dickey over the weekend.
00:43 And the the you know, the short version of it is that he's saying,
00:48 hey, you know, it takes time to get comfortable.
00:51 You know, he had to learn the system.
00:54 Now he knows where he needs to line up, what routes to run.
00:56 And to that effect, he's healthy.
00:59 We know that he had an injury his senior year of high school
01:01 that kind of bled over into the start of his Oregon career.
01:03 So he's healthy. He's in shape.
01:05 And he's more or less the player that we expected him to be.
01:08 So based on everything we heard from Stein, I think that Jurion Dickey
01:12 is definitely going to be a name in that wide receiver rotation.
01:15 Oh, absolutely.
01:17 And that's somebody you want to keep an eye on anyways, of course, after,
01:19 you know, Troy Franklin departs for the NFL draft.
01:21 And you're absolutely right.
01:22 It does take some time, no matter who you are, unless, you know,
01:26 you want to look at guys like Orlando Pace, who just, you know,
01:29 plop right in at Ohio State and play left tackle for three years
01:32 and then go off to the Hall of Fame.
01:33 Like, you know, it'd be great if every five star recruit was like that.
01:36 That's just not the way it works.
01:37 So I really liked his film coming out of high school.
01:40 And it's something where I would expect him to step into a much bigger role
01:44 this year. And, you know, I I've heard a lot from just big ten fans saying,
01:49 oh, you know, Washington, Oregon, USC, UCLA,
01:52 they don't know what they're in for with the big ten.
01:54 But I think to a certain extent,
01:56 you can go the other direction with that as well, where, you know,
01:59 the passing attack that Oregon had last year, the same thing about Washington,
02:01 USC, where some of the offenses that they've put on films.
02:05 I don't know if the big ten knows exactly what they're going to be getting
02:08 in some of these these high octane offenses out west.
02:11 And the thing about Dickey that's really cool is he was a really athletic,
02:15 really physical receiver when I covered him coming out of high school.
02:18 He was at Valley Christian and then he transferred to Menlo Atherton,
02:21 where coincidentally, Troy Franklin played his high school
02:24 ball. So for him, I think there's a lot of opportunity this year,
02:28 because if you're just looking at the the numbers,
02:30 I think it was something like 80 catches that Troy Franklin had.
02:34 I know Tess Johnson led the team and and set a new record
02:37 for a single season receptions.
02:39 But you have those receptions that Troy frees up.
02:42 And then Bucky Irving, he got like 50 plus passes out of the backfield as well.
02:47 So there's definitely some some catches to go around in this 2024
02:51 offense for Oregon.
02:52 But that said, there are some talented veterans that,
02:56 you know, Dickey is contending with in that wide receiver room.
02:59 You have Trayshon Holden, who came back from one more year.
03:01 You have Tess Johnson, who came back from one more year.
03:03 Just some some other names there at the wide receiver spot.
03:07 Kyler Casper is back and he is someone that was really highly touted coming in.
03:11 He reclassed from twenty three to twenty two, but we haven't seen a whole lot of him.
03:15 Gary Bryant Jr.
03:17 So there's a lot of names there.
03:19 And then Ryan Pelham and Jeremiah McClellan are the blue chip
03:22 all Americans that they signed in the twenty four class, Dylan Gresham.
03:25 So there's so many names, so much talent there.
03:27 But but it seems like he's doing all of the right things.
03:30 Jury on is to to put his best foot forward.
03:34 I know that Stein also mentioned that the bowl prep was really a good time for him
03:38 to just hammer down those fundamentals.
03:41 And and now he said that he's taken taken balls off of defenders heads
03:45 with with all these, you know, 50 50 balls or whatever it is.
03:48 So I think that's one of the the most encouraging and most promising
03:53 storylines that you can have coming out of spring ball,
03:56 even though there are only two practices in.
03:57 But based on what Will Stein had to say, the arrow is certainly trending up
04:01 for for Dickey, it seems.
