00:00 "Get out!"
00:01 "Is it something I said?"
00:02 "You've ruined my life!"
00:04 "You've ruined my career!"
00:06 Welcome to WatchMojo, and today we're looking at actors that have an infamous reputation
00:10 for complaining, hostility towards other cast members, or just generally being difficult
00:15 to work with.
00:16 "I guess to give them to you is just throwing them away."
00:21 Number 30.
00:22 Dustin Hoffman
00:23 There's no denying that Dustin Hoffman has been in some great films, and is one of the
00:27 greatest actors of his generation, and he has a whole bunch of awards and nominations
00:31 to prove it.
00:32 However, his dedication to his craft has often come at the expense of a favorable work environment
00:37 for those on set with him.
00:39 He's been known to argue with directors and demand extra takes to get it perfect.
00:44 "Sometimes, both things have happened where he just doesn't want to do it the way I want
00:48 him to be done, and I just refuse to do it the way he would prefer it to be done."
00:53 Then there's Meryl Streep.
00:55 Hoffman starred opposite Streep in Kramer vs. Kramer, and on one of the first takes,
00:59 he slapped her without warning.
01:01 Hoffman has since discussed his performance on set as possibly acting out, quote, "stuff
01:06 that I was feeling toward the wife that I was divorcing in real life."
01:09 "We were shooting the scene and I was properly upset, I thought, and I was getting my stuff
01:16 together and walked out in the hallway and he looked at me and he slapped me as hard
01:20 as he could."
01:21 "Who?"
01:22 "Dustin."
01:23 "Dustin."
01:24 And then there's Mary Jones.
01:26 After her turn as Betty Draper on Mad Men made her a household name, there was a feeling
01:30 that January Jones was set up for stardom.
01:33 And while she has continued to work since then, her star has never reached the previously
01:37 expected heights.
01:38 So the question is why?
01:41 And while there are probably multiple factors, the easy answer many go to is Jones' reputation
01:46 for being difficult to work with.
01:48 "Everybody brush your teeth and go to bed."
01:51 "I'm hungry."
01:52 "You're going to bed."
01:54 That reputation is often linked to a comment from actor Jared Gilmore.
01:58 Gilmore played Jones' son on Mad Men until 2011, and when he left the show had this to
02:03 say about his TV mom, quote, "She's not as approachable as the others.
02:08 She's really serious about what she does.
02:10 Everyone else is so nice."
02:11 "Bobby, what did I just say?"
02:12 "I went to accident."
02:13 "You don't listen."
02:14 Number 28, Lindsay Lohan.
02:15 "You're like really pretty."
02:16 "Thank you."
02:17 "So you agree?"
02:18 "What?"
02:19 "You think you're really pretty?"
02:20 "Yeah."
02:21 "You're not really pretty."
02:22 "I'm not."
02:23 "You think you're really pretty."
02:24 "Oh, I don't know."
02:27 Everyone's favorite adorable actress from Mean Girls and other movies has had quite
02:31 the infamous party streak, and it's interfered with her acting career on countless occasions.
02:36 "Great, I'm being carjacked by my own car."
02:39 Like Charlie Sheen, Lohan does not know how to quit, and her partying and lavish lifestyle
02:44 have apparently often resulted in Lilo being late for work and/or too hungover to concentrate
02:50 if she shows up at all.
02:52 "Do you hear that?"
02:53 "What?"
02:54 "It's nothing."
02:56 The Canyon's director Paul Schrader has called her attitude, quote, "unspeakable,"
03:00 and quite frankly, it's not that difficult to see why.
03:03 "I don't, what happened, I don't get, I don't understand.
03:06 What do you mean something happened?"
03:08 With her life and career seemingly on the upswing, we hope that Lohan has put that behavior
03:12 behind her.
03:14 Number 27, Russell Crowe.
03:16 In discussing Russell Crowe's reputation for being hard to work with, director Curtis
03:20 Hanson said, quote, "What I speculate is that he's difficult when he's not trusting."
03:24 Well, if that's true, then it would appear that Crowe doesn't trust a whole lot of people.
03:29 "He fights his directors and he fights his fans.
03:31 It's a problem no one understands."
03:32 "If there's two things he loves, it's fighting and…"
03:35 "Fighting 'round the world."
03:38 That list would run from the hotel concierge whom he allegedly hit in the face with a thrown
03:43 telephone to the producer on Gladiator whom he threatened to kill with his bare hands.
03:48 Crowe has provided audiences with hours of enjoyment through his movies, but when it
03:52 comes to his temper, no, Russell, we are not entertained.
03:55 "Are you not entertained?
03:57 Are you not entertained?"
04:01 Number 26, Faye Dunaway.
04:03 Faye Dunaway is a Hollywood legend, but unfortunately she appears to be just as legendary for her
04:09 ugly attitude as for her iconic roles.
04:11 "You better take me home now."
04:13 "Now you wait, now don't you touch me."
04:15 "Alright, alright, if all you want's a stud service, you get on back to West Dallas
04:23 and you stay there the rest of your life."
04:25 And if the stories are true, no one is safe from Ms. Dunaway's wrath.
04:29 For example, there's the Pottery Barn employee who claims Dunaway called her a quote "effin'
04:34 moron" and the Broadway wig designer's assistant who got her hand slapped when Dunaway
04:38 didn't like quote "how the hairpins were being presented."
04:41 Even other actors aren't safe.
04:44 According to James Woods, Dunaway once threw something at him because he ad-libbed a line
04:48 during a take.
04:49 And while she's denied it, it's been alleged that she threw her urine in Roman Polanski's
04:54 face after he asked her to wait to take a bathroom break.
04:57 "No wire hangers!
05:00 What's wire hangers doing in this closet when I told you no wire hangers ever!"
05:12 Number 25.
05:13 Patrick Dempsey
05:14 "You took advantage of me and now you want to forget about it."
05:16 "I did not take advantage of you."
05:17 "I was drunk, vulnerable, and good looking and you took advantage."
05:19 The end of Derek Shepard's run on Grey's Anatomy was a sad moment for fans.
05:24 But it would appear that it was much more of a relief for many who had to work with
05:27 actor Patrick Dempsey on the show, especially near the end of his run.
05:32 Dempsey had a lot of power by then, and according to one producer, quote "some cast members
05:36 had all sorts of PTSD with him.
05:39 He had this hold on the set where he knew he could stop production and scare people.
05:43 He would complain about working late when others had been there way longer than him,
05:46 and the tension between him and Ellen Pompeo was palpable.
05:50 McDreamy had become McDifficult, which led him to becoming McDead.
05:54 "I'm a doctor.
05:55 Dr. Grey.
05:56 I'm a surgeon just like my husband was.
06:00 I know how this works.
06:02 You've waited the requisite number of hours and now you can officially declare him dead."
06:07 Number 24.
06:08 Julia Roberts
06:09 As one of the biggest movie stars of the 90s and 2000s, Julia Roberts was known by
06:13 fans for her acting ability and her big smile.
06:16 However, among those who worked in the movie business, she was also known for being, shall
06:20 we say, less than pleasant to work with.
06:23 The hostile relationship between her and Nick Nolte on the set of I Love Trouble has been
06:27 well documented.
06:28 "That was quite a performance you gave last night."
06:30 "You weren't bad yourself."
06:32 "But the tears.
06:33 Great for the Academy Award caliber."
06:34 "Thank you, I try my best."
06:38 Despite that, there have been reports of Roberts not getting along with many other actors she's
06:42 worked with.
06:43 From Hugh Grant to Meryl Streep, Roberts has conceded that her personality can come across
06:47 as quote "really harsh."
06:49 Her harshness on the set of 1991's Hook even rubbed Steven Spielberg the wrong way and
06:54 earned her the nickname "Tinker Hell" among the crew.
06:58 "Say it, Peter.
06:59 Say it and mean it."
07:02 "I believe in fairies."
07:04 Number 23.
07:06 Mandy Patinkin
07:07 "Prepare to die."
07:15 While many of the actors mentioned probably don't think they deserve to be here, Mandy
07:19 Patinkin would most likely be the first to add his own name to our list.
07:23 Self-awareness is a great quality, and Patinkin has it when it comes to his behavior during
07:28 the early years of his career.
07:29 In 2013, Patinkin told the New York Times that he feels awful about how quote "abominably"
07:35 he acted.
07:36 He said quote "During Chicago Hope, I never let directors talk to me because I was so
07:41 spoiled."
07:42 We can only hope such a revelation has made Patinkin more pleasant to work with in more
07:46 recent years.
07:47 "My name is Inigo Montoya.
07:48 You killed my father.
07:49 Prepare to die."
07:50 Number 22.
07:51 Jared Leto
07:52 You've heard the expression, "There's method to his madness."?
07:53 Well, when it comes to Jared Leto, the madness comes from his method.
07:54 Leto is a hardcore method actor, and as such, dives deeper and more deeply into the character's
07:55 personality.
07:56 "I'm a man of my word.
07:57 I'm a man of my word."
07:58 "I'm a man of my word."
07:59 "I'm a man of my word."
08:00 "I'm a man of my word."
08:01 "I'm a man of my word."
08:02 "I'm a man of my word."
08:03 "I'm a man of my word."
08:04 "I'm a man of my word."
08:05 "I'm a man of my word."
08:06 "I'm a man of my word."
08:07 "I'm a man of my word."
08:08 "I'm a man of my word."
08:09 "I'm a man of my word."
08:10 "I'm a man of my word."
08:11 "I'm a man of my word."
08:12 "I'm a man of my word."
08:13 "I'm a man of my word."
08:14 "I'm a man of my word."
08:15 "I'm a man of my word."
08:16 "I'm a man of my word."
08:17 "I'm a man of my word."
08:18 "I'm a man of my word."
08:19 "I'm a man of my word."
08:20 "I'm a man of my word."
08:21 "I'm a man of my word."
08:22 "I'm a man of my word."
08:23 "I'm a man of my word."
08:24 "I'm a man of my word."
08:25 "I'm a man of my word."
08:26 "I'm a man of my word."
08:27 "I'm a man of my word."
08:28 "I'm a man of my word."
08:29 "I'm a man of my word."
08:30 "I'm a man of my word."
08:31 "I'm a man of my word."
08:32 "I'm a man of my word."
08:33 "I'm a man of my word."
08:34 "I'm a man of my word."
08:35 "I'm a man of my word."
08:36 "I'm a man of my word."
08:37 "I'm a man of my word."
08:38 "I'm a man of my word."
08:39 "I'm a man of my word."
08:40 "I'm a man of my word."
08:41 "I'm a man of my word."
08:42 "Talk about a workplace romance gone wrong."
08:47 Number 21.
08:48 Bill Murray
08:49 "Is this some radical new therapy?"
08:51 "You see!"
08:53 Bill Murray has had a long career making great comedies,
08:56 and managed to segue into dramatic roles as well.
08:59 Unfortunately, over that long career,
09:01 he's also managed to accumulate a long list of people
09:03 with unpleasant stories about what it's like to work with him.
09:06 Gina Davis has written about Murray forcing a massage device on her,
09:10 and yelling derogatory things at her on set.
09:13 Richard Dreyfuss said that a drunk Murray threw an ashtray at him
09:16 while filming What About Bob.
09:17 And a producer on that film has talked about Murray
09:19 throwing her in a lake following a disagreement.
09:22 Lucy Liu has also talked publicly about the quote,
09:25 "inexcusable and unacceptable language"
09:27 Murray directed at her on the set of Charlie's Angels.
09:30 "Hey Alex, you okay?"
09:31 "She's having trouble with her secret identity pause."
09:34 "Aren't we all?
09:36 Scoot."
09:37 Number 20.
09:39 Sybil Shepard
09:40 Those who came of age in the 70s, 80s, or 90s
09:43 probably have multiple memories of watching Sybil Shepard
09:45 on the big or small screen.
09:47 And speaking of the small screen,
09:49 most of the "Sybil Shepard is difficult" stories
09:51 focus on her television career,
09:53 her jealousy of her co-stars,
09:55 and her diva attitude on set.
09:57 "Ready to go Sybil?"
09:58 "All set."
09:59 "Okay, any questions?"
10:00 "No, but I would like to say how pleased I am to be working with a woman.
10:05 It's a whole different kind of energy.
10:06 It's so much more nurturing."
10:07 "Then you don't have any questions."
10:08 "No."
10:09 "Then you don't have any questions."
10:10 While the 90s sitcom Sybil literally had her name on it,
10:13 she has admitted to being envious of co-star Christine Baranski's Emmy win.
10:17 And while her tension with Moonlighting co-star Bruce Willis is well known,
10:21 her unlikeability went beyond him.
10:22 "Will you tell me what's going on?"
10:23 "I don't know what's going on.
10:24 The police want me for questioning."
10:25 "Do you want me to go with you?"
10:26 "No!"
10:27 "You want to think about it?"
10:28 "Listen, I'll probably go home right afterwards.
10:29 If I get any messages, call me.
10:30 Otherwise, I'll see you in the morning."
10:35 Rumor has it that she was so bad on set
10:36 that some of the writers later wrote a CSI episode
10:39 in which an actress, based on Shepard, is killed.
10:42 Number 19.
10:43 Alec Baldwin
10:44 "You want to go out on those sits tonight and close,
10:47 close it's yours, not you're gonna be shining my shoes."
10:51 Alec Baldwin's difficulties with his daughter,
10:53 paparazzi and flight attendants have been well documented,
10:57 and the stuff of many tabloid headlines over the years.
11:00 But Baldwin's short temper and less-than-stellar attitude
11:02 haven't just been reserved for family and airline employees.
11:05 The actor has been known to bring said aggressive unpleasantness to work,
11:09 and sick it on those in and around the set as well.
11:12 Adam Bernstein was a director on 30 Rock for just six episodes.
11:16 Why only six?
11:18 It's been speculated that he didn't want to stick around very long
11:20 after Baldwin threatened violence on him for holding up his thumbs to frame a shot.
11:24 And another 30 Rock director, Paul Feig,
11:27 called Baldwin the most difficult member of the cast to work with.
11:30 "I'm sorry, are you on some subconscious level
11:32 seeing this as me toying with your manhood?"
11:35 "Of course I am. I invented that."
11:37 "The police are looking for you, but I'm gonna have to kill you first."
11:44 It seems increasingly difficult for Seagal to find credible work these days.
11:48 Lord knows it's been a long, hard minute since the last time he had a box office hit.
11:52 That may have something to do with the fact that he's supposedly a nightmare on set.
11:57 Not only is Seagal cited as being highly critical of others,
12:00 he's also been known to physically intimidate cast members.
12:03 "And he akido'd me against a brick wall. Pow!
12:07 Knocked all the air out of me. I was like, 'What?'"
12:12 He purportedly slammed comedian John Leguizamo against a wall simply for laughing at him.
12:17 Because, you know, comedians aren't allowed to be funny.
12:20 We'll put it this way.
12:21 Henry Rollins has stated he'd rather drink latex paint than work with Seagal.
12:26 "If you thought you could save the world,
12:29 but nobody would know it, then you might have to give your life in doing it.
12:34 Would you do it?"
12:35 "I'm by winning. I win here and I win there. Now what?"
12:41 While not in the spotlight recently,
12:43 Charlie Sheen's personal life has been the subject of controversy for years,
12:47 including domestic issues with his then-fiancé Kelly Preston.
12:50 "When she lifted my pants off the scale,
12:54 it fell out of the back of Jean's pocket,
12:57 and hit the floor and shot a bullet right between her legs."
13:00 And his infamous drug addiction.
13:02 "You borrow my brain for five seconds and just be like,
13:05 'Dude, can't handle it. Unplug this bastard.'"
13:07 Therefore, it's not too much of a stretch to imagine
13:10 just how difficult it would be to work with him.
13:12 "He also tells me Chuck Lorre is a loser and a clown,
13:15 and a whole lot worse than that."
13:17 His substance abuse and disparaging comments about Chuck Lorre
13:20 are apparently what got him fired from his career-rejuvenating role on Two and a Half Men.
13:24 "Hello?"
13:27 "Oh, hey, Alan. Come on in."
13:29 We can't blame him entirely, though.
13:31 If he really is a freakin' rock star from Mars,
13:33 they may have different sets of customs over there.
13:35 "I'm tapped out, Mark.
13:36 American Express got a hitman looking for me."
13:39 "Alright, everybody write now. What's my worst quality?"
13:43 The former Criminal Minds actor-director was well-known
13:49 for being a constant source of friction on set.
13:53 Fellow cast members have claimed Gibson is highly demanding,
13:56 requiring scheduling to revolve around his agenda.
13:59 "I love Thomas Gibson."
14:00 "Okay."
14:01 "I actually sent him a text when I found out what happened."
14:04 "Did he respond?"
14:05 "No, he did not."
14:06 Worst, however, is his temper.
14:09 Gibson was fired from Criminal Minds in August 2016,
14:12 after the final straw in a string of controversial incidents.
14:16 In 2010, he reportedly shoved an assistant director during a shoot.
14:21 In 2013, he picked up a DUI, something producers were not pleased about.
14:27 Then in 2016, Gibson allegedly kicked writer-producer Virgil Williams.
14:32 "I wouldn't have kept kicking, but I was afraid you didn't get my plans."
14:35 An established pain in the ass, Criminal Minds simply decided to let Gibson go.
14:40 "It's not a request."
14:42 "No. No, no, no, no!"
14:48 Though he got his start in Hollywood in kids shows and blockbusters,
14:52 Shia LaBeouf's growth into an artist and filmmaker surprised many.
14:55 Over the years, he's made more than a few controversial remarks,
14:58 engaged in what some would call publicity stunts,
15:01 and according to some, he can also transform into a bit of a jerk.
15:05 "Okay, here's the dream. You're B-. Dream gone."
15:08 Shia is notorious for his temper and belligerent attitude,
15:12 even leaving the Broadway production of Orphans he was slated to star in
15:15 due to constant bickering and fights with his co-stars.
15:18 Especially Alec Baldwin.
15:19 "Now, Baldwin just recently responded via the New York Times,
15:23 stating he was very disappointed, and regarding what people feel
15:27 about the events that happened, you expect communications to be private,
15:31 because everyone wants this process to be as collegial as possible."
15:34 According to some, however, LaBeouf was just straight-up fired.
15:38 "No sacrifice. No victory."
15:41 Number 14. William Shatner.
15:44 "All right, you mutinous, disloyal, computerized half-breed,
15:48 we'll see about you deserting my ship."
15:51 Captain Kirk and Mr. Spock may have overcome their differences
15:54 and become friends in the world of Star Trek,
15:56 but that wasn't the case for the real-life relationship
15:58 between actors William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy.
16:02 Shatner was reportedly the jealous type,
16:04 upset at the amount of fan mail Nimoy received,
16:07 and insecure over his importance to the show.
16:10 Shatner apparently stole dialogue from Nimoy and other actors
16:13 to elevate his own significance,
16:15 and yet Nimoy was Shatner's best man at his fourth wedding.
16:19 "There is a thing that happens to Vulcans at this time."
16:22 Shatner also apparently feuded with other actors on the series, though,
16:25 like Nichelle Nichols and George Takei.
16:28 Evidently obsessed with his own status,
16:30 Shatner reportedly threw fits to make sure he was
16:34 the center of attention and in control.
16:36 "That was a very unusual question. Did you do research on that?"
16:40 "This is one of our viewers, one of your fans. Don't mock us."
16:43 "You're mocking our viewers."
16:45 Number 13. Edward Norton
16:47 Edward Norton is one of the finest actors in the industry,
16:50 so it comes as no surprise that he takes his craft extremely seriously.
16:55 "Quit your crying. I can't understand a goddamn word you're saying.
16:58 You little sissy, you make me sick."
16:59 We repeat, extremely seriously.
17:03 In fact, Norton has a reputation for shadow directing.
17:06 "If you come near Danny again."
17:08 He sat in on the editing for American History X because he didn't trust Tony K,
17:12 and often clashed with the studio during The Incredible Hulk over creative differences.
17:16 While the people behind the film said the dispute was blown out of proportion in the media,
17:25 and a promo tour was planned for the movie,
17:28 Norton didn't do any promotion following its release.
17:31 So, yes, by all accounts, he is that one employee who tells everyone else
17:35 how to do his or her jobs.
17:36 "You look at me when I'm talking to you."
17:38 Number 12. Klaus Kinski
17:40 "Listen, the children of the night make their music."
17:45 Even the most difficult of actors tends to make a few friends in the industry.
17:49 And even if they don't, sometimes you can put up with the worst of the worst
17:53 if they're simply that damn talented.
17:56 And then sometimes you have people like Klaus Kinski,
17:58 who was reportedly so difficult that nobody gave him a second chance.
18:03 "Don't give me any direction, because I can't do anything by myself."
18:06 Though not a household name,
18:08 the German actor appeared in over a hundred films throughout his long career.
18:12 Despite that extensive list,
18:14 Kinski only ever worked with one director on multiple occasions.
18:18 All the others refused to deal with him again.
18:21 To put it bluntly, Kinski has been described as insane.
18:26 Prone to frequent blow-ups, there really is no comparison to his madness.
18:30 "I play it the way I want to!"
18:32 "Well, we have to..."
18:34 "Stop giving her housewife instructions!"
18:37 Number 11. Jennifer Lopez
18:40 "My reputation apparently is pretty solid, so..."
18:43 While 2019's 'Hustlers' was very well received,
18:47 Lopez's earlier work didn't do wonders for her reputation.
18:50 "It's turkey time."
18:51 Although she's known as a very hard worker,
18:57 Jenny from the block has been called out in the past for so-called "diva" behavior.
19:01 "You did not just poke me!"
19:03 "Don't you touch me, you two-bit tramp!"
19:05 She's been said to often make ridiculous demands,
19:09 like numerous five-star hotel rooms to stay in
19:12 and her own private plane so she can travel in true diva style.
19:15 All on someone else's dime, of course.
19:17 "She was supposed to be going to India to perform,
19:20 but she asked for a private plane.
19:22 She also asked for an exorbitant amount,
19:24 that's what they're saying, of hotel rooms for her huge entourage."
19:27 And the kicker?
19:28 She refuses to perform if her demands are not met.
19:31 We guess it's too bad her demands were met in the case of Gigli.
19:34 "Couple, couple."
19:38 Number 10. Terri Hatcher
19:39 "I think you should spend some time with a decent role model, don't you?"
19:42 It seems Terri Hatcher's behavior fit right in with Susan Meyer's.
19:46 Hatcher, most known for her role as the desperate housewife,
19:49 didn't have to change much of what's allegedly her personal character
19:52 to fit into the drama-filled world.
19:54 "Oh my God, we are so not having this conversation."
19:58 Reports indicate that Hatcher was extremely cold to her co-stars on set,
20:02 making even the easiest scenes uncomfortable to shoot.
20:05 As an indicator of how poorly she meshed with her housewife's family,
20:09 Hatcher was left out of an end-of-series gift from the ladies to the crew.
20:13 The feud between Hatcher and the women was well known to all involved with the show,
20:17 so her snub came as a surprise to no one.
20:20 "You know you've hit middle age when your memories become more important to you than your dreams."
20:24 Number 9. Catherine Heigl
20:26 "Yeah, you think that's funny?"
20:27 "Yeah, I do."
20:28 Catherine Heigl clearly hadn't heard the expression
20:30 "don't bite the hand that feeds you,"
20:32 as that is exactly what she seemed to do in the past.
20:35 "It's just a theory, one of many."
20:37 After breaking into the mainstream with Knocked Up,
20:39 Heigl went on record saying that she thought the movie was,
20:42 quote, "a little sexist" and had a hard time enjoying it.
20:45 "She was complaining about how the movie depicted women in a very negative way,
20:50 and that she didn't like it, and she was a little ashamed of even starring in that movie."
20:54 The real irony here is that her treatment after speaking out may have been the result of sexism,
20:59 and both Seth Rogen and Judd Apatow later made peace with the star.
21:02 But then of course she wasn't a fan of Grey's Anatomy's writing either,
21:05 and she supposedly annoyed co-workers on a daily basis
21:08 due to wardrobe grievances and constant script complaints.
21:12 "It's just a job. It's just a job. It's the thing you come home from,
21:16 not the thing you come home to, and if you lose your job,
21:19 you get another one."
21:20 Number 8. Lea Michele.
21:22 [Music]
21:33 Don't sit there and assume the cast of Glee reflected its show's name when the cameras
21:36 were not rolling. Rather, Lea Michele, who played one of the singing stars, Rachel Berry,
21:41 apparently took on the cutthroat mentality of a real high school diva when it came to her behavior
21:45 on set.
21:45 "Don't use the fact that Jesse and I once had feelings for each other as an excuse for my
21:49 inevitable win."
21:50 According to reports, Michele was rude to all involved with production,
21:54 making the cast and crew stand around and wait extensively until she was ready to begin
21:58 shooting. Crew members also claim Michele refused to speak to junior members of the Glee staff.
22:03 On top of that, in 2020, Glee co-star Samantha Ware said Michele made her first television gig,
22:09 quote, "living hell," and described repeated instances of traumatic microaggressions
22:14 towards the Black actress.
22:15 [Music]
22:22 Number 7. Christian Bale.
22:24 Who doesn't remember Bale's eye-opening audio recording that came out publicly in 2009?
22:29 The grainy 2008 recording exposed an incident on the set of Terminator Salvation, where Bale
22:35 absolutely blew up at the film's director of photography Shane Hurlbut for walking into
22:40 his line of vision during a scene.
22:42 "I'm sorry."
22:43 "No, don't just be sorry. Think!"
22:46 The recording is incredibly disturbing to hear, as Bale unleashes a vicious and unwarranted
22:51 tirade on Hurlbut. But it's not just his volatile temper that makes Bale so hard to work with.
22:56 He's a method actor, which means he fully invests himself in his characters.
23:01 So when you work with Bale, you don't just get his craziness,
23:05 you get the craziness of his characters, too.
23:08 "Did you know I'm utterly insane?"
23:09 Number 6. Sean Penn.
23:12 "Sean Penn, you rude. Dumb, rude, and full of farts. I'm Stanky Sean, real-time stanker."
23:19 When it came out in early 2016 that infamous Mexican drug lord El Chapo
23:23 met and interviewed with actor Sean Penn, the most reasonable question asked by the public was,
23:29 "Why? What qualifications does Penn have?"
23:32 "Forget about blame. We're gonna put all our focus,
23:36 all our energy, all our billions of dollars on the bad guy."
23:40 Well, if he were to respond to that question, we probably wouldn't be able to publish it due to
23:44 explicit language and its overall awful message. Though known as a great actor,
23:48 he is also famous for allegedly being incredibly rude and an overall jerk.
23:53 "Well, I'm not gonna do that."
23:55 And although they are indeed serious, we won't even discuss the allegations of domestic abuse
24:00 lobbied against him, and instead, we're just gonna focus on his very real identity as a
24:04 nightmare to work with. "My own little daughter,
24:07 and I can't even cry for her." Allegedly hostile and intimidating,
24:11 he's not someone you want to share the screen with.
24:13 Number 5. Mike Myers
24:15 "We're not worthy! We're not worthy!"
24:19 Pick your jaw up off the floor. We weren't expecting it either,
24:23 but apparently this funny man is not nearly as fun as his characters.
24:26 "That is one crazy getup you got there, fella."
24:31 "Yeah, thank you."
24:31 The Austin Power star has been constantly called, quote,
24:34 "moody and temperamental," and many complain about the degree of control Mike Myers feels
24:39 he should be able to exhibit over the cast and crew.
24:41 "It's a very groovy time."
24:43 Many executives in the industry have simply refused to work with him,
24:46 and rumor has it he even had a crew member fired for looking him in the eyes on a particularly
24:51 bad day. Not groovy, baby.
24:53 "Well, that's where I see things just a little differently.
24:56 Contract or no, I will not bow to any sponsor."
24:58 Number 4. Val Kilmer
25:02 "It's the car, right? Chicks love the car."
25:04 When you've had a career as long and as all-encompassing as Val Kilmer,
25:08 there's a chance you've rubbed some people the wrong way.
25:11 "Chair."
25:11 Many of Kilmer's ex-girlfriends have spoken of his eccentric behavior.
25:19 This sentiment has been further mirrored by Joel Schumacher,
25:22 who directed Kilmer in Batman Forever,
25:24 calling his behavior towards a crew member, quote,
25:26 "rude, childish, and inappropriate."
25:29 "Are you yesterday's news, Bruce?"
25:31 Kilmer supposedly fought with camera operators and the wardrobe department on set.
25:35 Similar comments were made by Richard Stanley,
25:37 a director who worked on The Island of Dr. Moreau,
25:40 who claimed that, quote,
25:41 "Val would arrive and an argument would happen."
25:44 Kilmer addressed his difficult-to-work-with reputation in a 2017 Reddit AMA,
25:48 regretting his actions, saying he, quote,
25:51 "was often unhappy trying to make pictures better."
25:54 "Until one terrible morning you wake up and realize
25:57 that revenge has become your whole life."
26:00 "And you won't know why."
26:01 "You can't understand."
26:04 Who hasn't Chevy Chase pissed off?
26:14 Kindly regarded as perhaps the biggest grump in Hollywood,
26:18 Chase has been described as an indefensible,
26:20 cruelly vicious put-down artist.
26:22 As early as his SNL days,
26:27 Chase was burning bridges with the likes of John Belushi, Bill Murray, and the writers.
26:31 He's talked serious smack about most big names in the industry.
26:35 Some notables include Will Ferrell, Howard Stern, Kevin Smith, and Bill Maher.
26:39 More recently, Chase destroyed the one good thing he had going with the cult classic show community.
26:45 "Chevy, how you feeling about the Dan Harmon stuff?"
26:48 "The what?"
26:48 "Dan Harmon."
26:49 "Who's that?"
26:50 He heavily criticized the series and Showrunner,
26:53 while he was still a cast member,
26:55 and was known to have extremely offensive on-set tirades.
26:59 We can't imagine Chase has many friends left.
27:02 "Every man should be punched in the face. It's a rite of passage."
27:05 While some actors are blatantly difficult to work with,
27:13 there are others who are much more subtle,
27:15 and perhaps no one played that role better than Joan Crawford.
27:19 An undeniably beautiful woman,
27:21 Crawford gained a reputation throughout Hollywood for using her body to control others.
27:26 A master manipulator,
27:27 Crawford sparked problems with cast members by reportedly sleeping around with fellow actors and directors.
27:34 In arguably the most notorious feud in Hollywood history,
27:37 Crawford developed an intense hatred for Bette Davis,
27:40 who reciprocated the loathsome sentiment.
27:43 "You don't know what you're saying."
27:47 "Blanche, you aren't ever gonna sell this house."
27:51 Keeping a character, the beef developed after Crawford stole Bette's love, Franchot Tone.
27:57 It's an unwritten rule to keep your hands away from what's not yours,
28:00 but Crawford never played by the rules.
28:03 "All this time we could have been friends."

28:21 Number 1. Marlon Brando
28:25 You know that one employee who just doesn't give a crap,
28:29 always does whatever he wants and never listens to the boss?
28:32 In Hollywood, that man was Marlon Brando.
28:34 "Those kind of words have been on your tongue and your sister's tongue is too much around here."
28:41 "Who do you think you are, Pat Queens?"
28:43 Brando was notorious for ignoring direction, and he wouldn't even memorize his lines,
28:48 preferring instead to just wing it during filming,
28:50 "Four million dollars in your mitt."
28:53 "Four million?"
28:54 "More than you ever even dreamed of, more than we ever, ever did together."
28:58 write cue cards to leave somewhere off camera, or wear an earpiece.
29:02 "This is the most outrageous spectacle I have ever witnessed."
29:08 He was also deeply methodical about his acting,
29:11 which greatly alienated many people when the cameras were not rolling.
29:14 "Horror and moral terror are your friends. If they are not, then they are enemies to be feared."
29:24 It must have worked though, because Brando is known today as one of the greatest actors ever.
29:30 "I'm gonna make him an offer he can't refuse."
29:32 Were you surprised to find any of these actors on the list? Let us know in the comments.
29:36 "You left me in a black hole of rage and confusion.
29:39 Is that the medicine you practice, Dr. Quinzel?"
29:44 "What are you gonna do, you gonna kill me, Mr. J?"
