00:00 Maximo TV is here in Halifax, Canada for the Juno Awards.
00:07 I'm Pamela Pagano and I am joined by two of the five good kids, Nick and Jacob.
00:14 Now you are nominated for the Breakthrough Group of the Year for the Junos 2024.
00:20 Tell us, how did you feel when you were first nominated?
00:23 Oh, it was lovely.
00:24 Yeah, I think it's just super nice.
00:27 So yeah, it's nice to be recognized by an industry that we look up to and like.
00:32 It was fun.
00:33 Also, we've been a band for 10 years, so it's about goddamn time we broke out.
00:38 Well, we love you.
00:41 We love you.
00:42 You are here at the Junos.
00:43 What was your reaction?
00:45 Yeah, same thing.
00:46 I was like, "Oh, we've been a band for so long and it's just like, I thought we'd
00:49 never break out and we're finally breaking out."
00:52 Yeah, no, but it is actually very lovely and it does mean a lot to us.
00:56 Yeah, it's super nice.
00:57 Absolutely.
00:57 Absolutely.
00:58 And thank you for your music and what a big year for you all already.
01:02 Now you have a tour, right, coming up.
01:05 You're in it all.
01:06 And I'm going to be missing you on April 2nd.
01:09 I'll be in San Francisco and that's the day I'm leaving, but you'll be there.
01:13 Tell us, what are you most excited for when touring?
01:17 Honestly, just getting time to hang out.
01:20 We get a bus now, which is great.
01:24 And that bus is just like, kind of like a little pirate ship.
01:27 We all just like hang out in and kind of feels like we're cruising around the
01:30 States and I don't know, it's just a nice time.
01:32 Absolutely.
01:33 What's your favorite part about touring with the band?
01:35 Yeah, no, it's the same thing.
01:36 And I do, yeah, we really do gravitate towards the like ship imagery of it.
01:40 Yeah.
01:40 It feels like you're on a boat sailing the seas with your friends.
01:43 It's lovely.
01:43 I just really like it.
01:44 I love it.
01:45 We're on a ship here.
01:46 It kind of looks like we're on a ship here too.
01:48 It's so beautiful.
01:49 And we're in your wonderful presence.
01:50 And now continuing on a big year, you also have a highly anticipated EP coming out March 27th.
01:57 Is there anything you can give us a sneak peek about?
02:00 There's some new instruments.
02:05 Yeah, there's some new instruments.
02:07 What kind of instruments?
02:08 I'm not, not going to say.
02:09 I'm just going to say there's some instruments on it that aren't on any of the other EPs.
02:12 So we have to listen, keep our ears open.
02:16 Yeah.
02:16 We got to keep our ears open.
02:17 That makes sense.
02:18 All right.
02:19 Well, that's amazing.
02:20 And tell us, what is your favorite part about working all together?
02:24 I mean, 10 years with Good Kid, what is your favorite part?
02:27 Uh, just the favorite part is that we're still together after 10 years.
02:32 We, we've actually talked about this a lot.
02:34 We see a lot of our, uh, like quote unquote colleagues or like other peers,
02:38 peer bands, like breaking up over time.
02:40 Uh, and for us, it just feels like, I don't know.
02:43 It just feels good still where you enjoy each other's company.
02:46 We enjoy making music together and making art in general.
02:48 So, uh, yeah, kind of the same, the same thing.
02:51 It's just really nice to get to do this for so long with our friends.
02:53 You feel the beautiful energy.
02:56 I need a hug.
02:56 I need a hug.
02:57 Hugging it.
02:57 I'm so happy that you're here at the Juno Awards and tell us what, what do
03:02 you love so much about the band?
03:03 Uh, big question.
03:06 Well, no, I just, I just keep repeating what he says.
03:09 I just keep being like, yeah, that's it.
03:10 Uh, no, I mean, it is.
03:12 Yeah, it is.
03:12 Like, I think we're in it for like brotherhood, friendship and like, yeah,
03:16 it's nice.
03:16 It's, I mean, playing music with people is very, it's very intimate.
03:20 It's very intimate to like, you know, consistently.
03:21 Yeah.
03:22 To like play live music with people and that's created a friendship that's
03:26 unique and I really like, yeah.
03:27 Now you're a band from Toronto.
03:30 Tell us what would you say to your fans, family, friends back home?
03:35 Um, just like, we love you.
03:37 Thank you so much for the support.
03:39 Um, and we'll be back soon.
03:41 And we're playing a show.
03:43 Oh, but it's sold out.
03:45 So no, no, no, no.
03:46 Right.
03:47 Well, for those who've got tickets, see you there.
03:49 You can't come.
03:50 I'm sorry.
03:50 They're already coming.
03:52 That's why it's sold out.
03:53 That's right.
03:54 Well, thank you so much and have incredible, incredible journals.
03:57 We're so lucky to, to, to be here with you.
04:00 So thank you.
04:00 Thank you.
