00:00 Mental health is so important and I don't think we talk about it enough.
00:05 One week after Garrison Brown was laid to rest, his sister Madison shares a heartfelt
00:10 message to Instagram about the importance of mental health awareness.
00:15 She says in the March 18th post, "Mental health is so important and I don't think we talk
00:20 about it enough and I don't think we do enough to bring awareness.
00:25 It wasn't bullying, it wasn't a lack of love that Garrison had, it was mental health and
00:32 I am going to continue talking about mental health and self-care until I am blue in the
00:38 face because I don't think it's talked about enough in a way that people understand it."
00:43 And the 28-year-old, who shares children Axel, Evangeline and Josephine with husband Caleb
00:49 Rush, reflects on conversations she and Garrison had about his difficult relationship with
00:56 social media.
00:57 The other thing is social media is not real and I am going to be pushing really hard to
01:04 be more, I have been, but even more so I am done with filters and be more authentic.
01:12 It's a highlight reel and that was something that Garrison and I talked a lot about and
01:16 I know my other siblings and my mom have expressed this, that Garrison used to feel like he was
01:19 not doing enough because he was comparing himself to things on social media and I don't
01:25 think that it's real and I think we need to remember that.
01:30 Garrison was found dead at his home in Flagstaff, Arizona on March 5th at age 25.
01:36 While an official cause of death has not yet been revealed, police told NBC News that it
01:41 appeared he died by suicide.
01:44 In addition to Madison, Garrison is survived by siblings Logan, Hunter, Gabriel and Savannah,
01:52 as well as 12 half-siblings from Cody's relationship with exes Mary Brown, Christine Brown and
01:58 wife Robin Brown.
02:00 While sharing insight into her family's dynamic, Madison adds that although her siblings tend
02:06 to quote "disagree" on a lot, they've come together to grieve Garrison over the last
02:11 few weeks.
02:12 This time is so precious and if you're not happy with how you're spending your time and
02:19 you don't feel fulfilled in life, then I would encourage you to reevaluate.
02:23 She also urges people who are struggling with mental health to not be afraid to speak up
02:28 and seek help.
02:30 If you're struggling with community, I would encourage you to get out and talk to people
02:35 and get away from your screens and social medias aren't real and get community with
02:42 your family, your friends, your loved ones.
02:45 Madison finishes the video by giving a huge thank you to her support system.
02:49 I just wanted to also again just say a huge thank you to all of you who have just shown
02:55 love and just kindness over the last few weeks.
03:01 Thank you.
