00:00 CM Punk takes a shot at AEW, WWE leak major WrestleMania 40 surprises, an AEW star returning
00:08 to WWE and more.
00:10 I'm Oli Davis, and this is the WrestleTalk News.
00:21 What we've waited for for two decades is finally happening.
00:25 The Attitude Era is returning, which means… blood is back.
00:30 Swearing is back, you f***ers.
00:33 And overly insider references to the detriment of your favourite company's wrestling competitor
00:38 is also back.
00:50 Despite claiming he's not terminally online in his promo segment on Monday's episode
00:54 of Raw, CM Punk posted an Instagram story online afterwards that read "Thank you all
01:01 85,000 (turnstile count from the Chicago delegation) of you that came to the show last night.
01:07 We set records.
01:08 Gate.
01:09 Merch.
01:10 Amount of time it took to leave the parking lot.
01:13 Swears.
01:14 Ketchup on hot dogs.
01:15 Won according to Chicago delegation Indy Hartwell.
01:17 You're still reading."
01:19 This is, of course, a joke at the expense of his former employer All Elite Wrestling.
01:24 In the All In event where he allegedly had a backstage altercation with Jack Perry, which
01:29 led to AEW firing Punk with cause shortly after.
01:34 With cause being like, there was a reason for it, not Irish pop group The Cause.
01:40 AEW wanted All In to break the wrestling paid attendance record, and they believed they
01:44 had, announcing the number at 81,035.
01:49 Will Ospreay even celebrated by getting that number tattooed on his arm to commemorate
01:54 wrestling at the event.
01:55 Weirdly, though, the amount of people who buy tickets never equals the amount of people
02:00 who actually show up on the day.
02:02 And the turnstile attendance, the actual number of people who entered Wembley Stadium, was
02:07 reported to be 72,265, which is over 8,000 shy of WWE's turnstile record of 80,709.
02:19 Which WWE claim was actually 101,763 wrestling.
02:24 Punk then followed up with another Instagram story, saying "Just kidding.
02:28 Don't get upset.
02:29 Chicago delegation would not lie to you.
02:32 14,850 paid, 15,431 paid with comps.
02:37 Wanted to deliver while injured and felt I did.
02:40 Chicago is the best.
02:42 Love you all."
02:43 It's a remarkable attendance figure for an episode of TV, and continues a run of incredibly
02:48 strong attendance for Raw and SmackDown, which might be caused by WWE making some of its
02:54 best programming ever.
02:57 WrestleNomics have reported that episode drew an overall average of 1.73 million viewers,
03:06 an increase of about 40,000 from the previous week.
03:09 It pulled in a .57 rating in the 18-49 demographic, which puts it as second for the entire night
03:15 on TV behind an NCAA women's basketball game.
03:19 Punk's promo segment with Seth Rollins and Drew McIntyre was the most watched section,
03:23 averaging an impressive 2.2 million and a .71 rating.
03:28 But we all know WWE isn't in this for the TV ratings and the mega money.
03:33 They're in it for the positive fan reviews.
03:35 The March 25th episode of Monday Night Raw has a whopping 9.42 score on the Wrestling
03:42 Record and Ratings Database CageMatch, which puts it as the joint 15th highest rated TV
03:50 or pay-per-view show of all time.
03:53 And if you remove pay-per-views, special memorial shows and that one episode of Lucha Underground,
03:58 it's the joint highest rated show ever.
04:02 It's turning everything WWE have taught us over the last two decades on its head.
04:07 Actually good and coherent wrestling TV does seem to make them more popular.
04:11 And a big part of that is WWE's new/old approach to producing their shows.
04:18 Fightful Select is reporting that the Punk, Rollins and McIntyre segment wasn't scripted.
04:23 Instead, an outline was made beforehand, which was produced by Adam Pearce, and all three
04:28 men were given the green light to improvise.
04:30 Which is probably how Punk got to say some of the things he did.
04:34 In the segment, Punk gave a shoutout to Jim Cornette, saying he listens to "The Experience
04:39 and the Drive-Thru" - which are the names of Cornette's podcasts, which is often very
04:43 anti-AEW and The Elite.
04:46 He tried to get McIntyre to say "you know whose name" on air, and swore.
04:51 It's been widely reported that Triple H and Nick Khan recently sent out a memo to
04:55 the whole roster, reminding them not to use curse words on TV or social media, as they
05:00 are a PG product.
05:02 This prompted accusations of double standards from some talent, because The Rock has been
05:06 using swear words as punctuation in his final boss character for about two months now.
05:11 WWE have gotten around this with the TV networks by giving them Rock's script in advance,
05:16 so they know when to censor it live.
05:18 Punk's cursing, however, was improvised, so it caught production by surprise.
05:24 Which, knowing Punk, I'm sure was his own thinly veiled meta shot at the whole situation.
05:29 Interestingly, in a backstage interview released online, where Punk lives, he continued to
05:34 tease a further feud with the Great One.
05:37 "I'm glad Rock's back.
05:39 It's good to see that he knows his role and he's kept his mouth shut.
05:42 Anything goes here in this new era of WWE.
05:45 Me being back, I'm gonna cross paths with everybody sooner or later."
05:51 Because CM Punk isn't just one of the greatest promo guys of all time, he cut the best promo
05:57 of all time.
05:58 Yes, I'm going there.
05:59 Just over a month ago, we released a very controversial episode of our Tables, Lists
06:04 and Chairs show where I, rightfully, had CM Punk's pipe bomb at the top of my best promos
06:10 of all time list.
06:11 And Luke… had the Scott Steiner maths promo.
06:17 Are you serious?
06:19 I genuinely said to Luke after we recorded that, I think you're going to get crucified
06:24 in the comments.
06:25 It's a genuinely bad take.
06:26 It's not going to go down well.
06:28 And what do I get instead?
06:30 Ramen for life writing.
06:32 Luke's promo about why the Steiner math promo is the best promo of all time just might
06:37 be the second best promo of all time.
06:39 Crow Dragons said "Being 1000% honest with myself and everyone else in the comment section,
06:44 I agree with Luke.
06:46 I can never remember how the pipe bomb promo goes, but I can almost word for word remember
06:50 Steiner math and whenception, Luke's number one is objectively correct."
06:57 Ever since, people keep commenting on our videos 'Steiner math greater than Punk'
07:02 'Maths greater than pipe bomb' and I know you're trolling, so yesterday I whispered
07:11 something into Luke's ear.
07:13 I said I'm going to make you bleed.
07:18 But metaphorically, when I objectively prove the pipe bomb is better than maths, it's
07:22 not my most threatening line, I agree.
07:24 At the top of this video description is a link to a poll on our Patreon page.
07:28 It's publicly available so anyone can vote on it.
07:30 Open it in a separate browser right now so you're still watching this video now.
07:34 I need you all to do the right thing and decide once and for all which is the best promo of
07:41 all time.
07:42 CM Punk's pipe bomb or Scott Steiner math?
07:50 And seeing that you've now opened up the poll on that Patreon page, why not check out
07:53 all the great exclusive video content we've got up there - like the brand new latest episode
07:58 of Luke and I reviewing WWE in 2014.
08:01 And the break up of the shield is a clip.
08:26 We're all not good back in 2014.
08:37 Trust me, I've been watching them.
08:39 So let's go back to 2024.
08:41 The joint greatest wrestling TV show of all time apart from that one Lucha Underground
08:45 episode on Cage Match was main evented by a fantastic angle of The Rock brutally beating
08:50 down Cody Rhodes.
08:52 Come to build The Rock vs Cody main event at WrestleMan-oh, yeah.
08:58 I keep forgetting that's not the match.
09:00 But just like the little easter eggs Triple H would put on screen foreshadowing Bray Wyatt's
09:04 2022 return, many have pointed out the WrestleMania surprises that would potentially set up in
09:10 this segment.
09:11 During one shot, a WWE production truck is in the background, which features the faces
09:16 of John Cena and Stone Cold Steve Austin.
09:19 Which is odd, because most of the WWE production trucks right now have WrestleMania 40 branding,
09:25 with current roster members like McIntyre, Rollins, Jey Uso and Logan Paul.
09:30 WrestleVotes is implying that WWE specifically made a Cena and Austin backdrop for this segment
09:36 posting.
09:37 Everything is done on purpose.
09:39 Two weeks out from WrestleMania, the backdrop of these WrestleMania specific trucks last
09:44 night would've sufficed.
09:46 I'll leave it at that.
09:48 This follows a Wrestling Observer report that WWE have been talking to Cena and Austin about
09:53 making appearances at WrestleMania 40, with both guys being very famous Mania opponents
09:58 for The Rock.
09:59 But it wasn't just Austin and Cena who featured on that truck.
10:03 If you go back and watch it, Trish Stratus is briefly shown there too.
10:07 If WrestleVotes' implication is to be taken seriously, that means everyone on that billboard
10:13 could be appearing at Mania.
10:15 There haven't yet been any reports that Trish is set to be involved, although she
10:19 has her own onscreen history with The Rock, and it involves Smoochie Smooch Smooch.
10:24 Perhaps more looking ahead to Ram, that's the Raw after Mania.
10:29 WWE might soon have an ex-AEW star to debut.
10:35 Mike Santana, formerly of the Proud and Powerful tag team with Ortiz and the original Inner
10:39 Circle line-up, left AEW earlier this month, and he's now told Chris Van Vliet that he
10:44 has had some discussions with WWE.
10:47 But it's not just him who could be jumping ship.
10:50 Santana has implied a currently contracted AEW star who used to be with WWE is also waiting
10:57 to make the move back.
10:58 Santana said he always knew it was coming in relation to Cody leaving AEW for a WWE
11:04 return, but then added "I'll be real, there was two people that I said off the bat
11:09 were gonna go back to WWE.
11:12 One of them already did."
11:13 Van Vliet then asked "and you're saying there's another one that may go back?"
11:17 To which Santana replied "Oh yeah!
11:19 Who do you think that current AEW star could be?
11:22 Let me know in the comments."
11:24 And also go do the right thing.
11:26 Vote in our Pipebomb vs Math poll using the link in the video description below, and why

11:35 WWE wrestler's WrestleMania 40 in three words or less/fewer.
