Sundrive announcement at Liddell Power Station
Transcript
00:00 So thank you, Damien.
00:03 Australia has led the world in solar innovation.
00:06 And today's $1 billion sunshot announcement means that Australia can not only be a renewable
00:13 energy innovation powerhouse, but also a renewable energy manufacturing powerhouse.
00:18 We also welcome the New South Wales government's commitment to establishing the $275 million
00:24 net zero manufacturing fund, as well as their commitment to support local manufacturing
00:30 through government off-take agreements.
00:33 We totally see a world where the world's best solar panels can be made in New South Wales
00:38 for New South Wales rooftops.
00:43 Australia developed today's modern solar technology at the University of New South Wales.
00:49 Last year, around $50 billion worth of solar panels were made using technology invented
00:56 in Australia.
00:57 However, very little of this value has been captured on our shores.
01:01 By establishing a local manufacturing industry, we can better capture this value whilst creating
01:06 thousands of highly skilled jobs, whilst also retaining Australia's world-leading solar
01:11 talent.
01:13 Dave was born out of my PhD, also at the University of New South Wales, with the goal
01:19 to accelerate the R&D and what the next generation of solar technology can be.
01:25 What first started as a PhD project with my flatmate and co-founder Dave has now grown
01:32 to an incredible team, from engineers to scientists, from software to hardware, manufacturing specialists.
01:41 And it is this team that has gone on to develop the world's most efficient commercial-sized
01:46 solar cell using our breakthrough copper plating technology.
