00:00 A landmark Manchester City Centre pub has undergone a huge refurbishment this March.
00:06 The Abel Heywood in the northern quarter had a £200,000 interior renovation and refresh,
00:12 almost a decade after first opening as a pub in 2015.
00:16 The improvements include new booth seating, a fresh update of the existing Victorian-style
00:21 decor, new external signage, lighting and a full revamp of the bar areas.
00:27 We went down to check out the new features at the popular pub for ourselves.
00:31 Very quick refurb of three weeks.
00:33 We've done a complete redecoration and refit of the whole pub.
00:36 So the only thing that really is existing is the bar.
00:40 So we've redecorated, we've put new artwork up, we've done new furnishings.
00:44 As you know with Manchester really, it's constantly changing.
00:47 There's new areas that are getting revamped and regenerated and new brands and really
00:51 successful national and international brands are coming into Manchester.
00:54 We've seen the area in particular is still as popular as it always has been in the northern
00:58 quarter.
00:59 I think the general consensus was that we're reinvesting.
01:02 It needed a sparkle really, it needed to be lifted out of the area really and I think
01:06 that's what's been done.
01:07 This place looks fantastic when you walk around the corner, when the sun shines it looks great
01:10 and yeah, it's about time I think really.
01:13 Ten years ago is not a huge amount of time really for a pub to have a refurb and stuff
01:17 but this place has had a very successful ten years.
01:21 It needed a bit of a revamp really.
01:23 The Abel Hayward and particularly within the northern quarter, I think it just attracts
01:28 all different kinds of people.
01:29 We have a 15 bedroom hotel, we're not particularly one thing to one person or one group.
01:33 People use this pub for all different reasons, whether it's business meetings, whether it's
01:36 events, whether it's get togethers, whether it's just drinks and passing, whether they're
01:40 here for a football match or a music event.
01:42 Our location I think is fantastic in that we are close to everything and not far from
01:46 anything.
01:47 For years we've always ensured that we have excellent service.
01:51 We like to give each customer a really kind of personal experience of Manchester.
01:55 So our staff will talk to our guests about where to go and where to visit.
01:58 We're not particularly pressured about staying in this building 24 hours a day.
02:02 We have an amazing experience range and we're always trying new things.
02:05 A good range of beers.
02:07 You know we're always trying to keep above the norm.
