00:00 >> All right, gentlemen, you received the instructions in the dressing room, know what
00:04 I expect, good, clean fight.
00:06 Legal punches here for you, legal punches here for you.
00:10 Touch gloves to both of you.
00:14 >> Richard Torres Jr., a high volume all action heavyweight.
00:19 He's fun to watch, but Don Hainsworth is on an upward swing right now.
00:24 Two consecutive stoppage victories.
00:27 And for Richard Torres, he's coming off of his longest outing.
00:31 It took him all eight rounds to get Curtis Harper out of there despite a cut right eye.
00:36 And Tim, when he gets in trouble is when he gets over anxious.
00:41 >> Because he's always looking for the knockout.
00:43 >> I mean, you got to love him for his aggression.
00:47 But a lot of the times, you know, he has short arms, he has to close the distance.
00:50 And when he keeps his head directly on that line, that's where the head clash is going
00:54 to happen.
00:55 >> Mostly because he's southpaw, he's always going to be most of the time fighting against
00:58 an orthodox fighter.
00:59 And when you throw, you shoot your power hand, your head's lined up on the same side.
01:03 >> Watch your feet, guys, watch your feet.
01:04 >> And that happens as well.
01:05 Your feet, you step on the other opponent's foot.
01:09 And it's very important to get your foot on the, your lead foot on the outside of your
01:14 opposition to be able to set up your backhand.
01:17 Extremely important.
01:18 >> Comes from an athletic family.
01:20 Both his father and his mother are bodybuilders who compete.
01:23 >> He says, I've been working on my body now.
01:26 After the Olympics, you see the quick work, angles and combinations.
01:29 >> You see the angle?
01:30 You see the nice little turn, step around?
01:31 Oh, look at the angles, Lomachenko.
01:32 >> Hey, it's tap dancing, baby.
01:33 >> Trying to tell you, taking that weak side angle right there, angle right there.
01:40 That's beautiful stuff.
01:41 The weak side angle is just towards that lead hand.
01:43 And you're getting around.
01:44 >> Oh, look at that.
01:45 >> Man, look.
01:46 >> That was Marcus Pacquiao, like, man, look.
01:49 >> From the other guard, but that's some sweet stuff right there.
01:52 >> See, positioning, positioning, positioning.
01:56 Major thing in boxing.
01:57 So you always want to put yourself in a position where you can hit your opponent and your opponent
02:01 can't hit you.
02:02 When you get around to that weak side like that, your opponent can't do nothing.
02:06 That's why it's a brilliant move.
02:09 >> Oh, my gosh, what a body shot.
02:11 >> You can hear the thud on that shot.
02:14 And, you know, Richard Torres has his father in his corner, has been there since the amateur
02:19 days for Don Hainsworth.
02:21 He's dedicated this fight to his father, who's in remission from prostate cancer.
02:26 He's here tonight at the fight, so he's fighting for a lot more than just himself.
02:31 But you see the quickness and power of Kiki Torres going to work here on Don Hainsworth
02:38 as he has him up against the ropes.
02:41 And Raul Caez Jr. is keeping a close eye on what Hainsworth is doing.
02:46 >> That's exactly what the referee needs to see, what Hainsworth is doing.
02:49 But he's taking a big shot right there.
02:50 It's over.
02:51 >> It's over as Torres repeats with that straight-legged hand, the power, precision, work rate of Richard
02:59 Torres Jr. showing why he is so vaunted after his Olympic run.
03:05 >> He's fun to watch, man.
03:08 >> He is fun to watch.
03:10 He is fun to watch.
03:14 >> I'm still thinking about that weak side angle he kept taking.
03:18 That's brilliant stuff right there, man.
03:20 >> Great footwork.
03:21 You know, you can tell he's been learning off the small guys.
03:24 Watching the small guys like Lomachenko, he says that's one of the guys that he admires,
03:29 that he likes to follow.
03:30 And that was great footwork right there by him.
03:33 >> All right, Tim, let's take a look at how this fight came to a close.
03:38 Sometimes your opponent is going to go down.
03:40 Sometimes you got to make the referee do his job.
03:41 >> Look, he jumped him, and he jumped him early on.
03:42 And we told you guys in the lead-up to this fight that he fights with a certain amount
03:43 of tenacity.
03:44 And volume and relentlessness, that's what makes Torres who he is.
03:55 You know, that's what makes him different in his division because heavyweights, they
03:59 like to cruise.
04:00 They like to take their time.
04:01 He doesn't like to take his time.
04:03 He likes to get in there.
04:04 But he did it in a way where it was safe for him.
04:08 You know, he didn't take too much punishment.
04:09 But once he got Haynesworth hurt, he stepped on the gas tank.
04:13 And you see right there, Haynesworth trying to use that veteran tactic right there.
04:17 Referee steps in, but then he finds this shot right here.
04:19 Splitting the guard, has the high guard, understanding what he needs to do, punching through it,
04:24 and making the referee step in and stop the action.
04:27 >> Beautiful stuff, man.
04:28 I really like what he was able to do tonight.
04:31 >> Ninth professional fight, and he told us, "Look, I want better competition, but my job
04:35 is not to find the opponent.
04:37 My job is to stop the guy they put in front of me."
04:40 And today he does it in impressive fashion.
04:43 And Tim, one of the hardest things to do for a young guy with power like Kiki Torres is
04:49 to fall in love with it.
04:50 And what you saw today was him working on different elements to the game.
04:55 And it doesn't matter if you can get a guy out.
04:57 It matters what you show doing it.
04:59 I think that's what we saw tonight.
05:01 >> You're always building from each fight.
05:03 Each fight you're building, each style that you're going against, you're building for
05:06 that.
05:07 You know, he's getting prepared for the future.
05:09 That's what you're seeing.
05:10 He's going to the gym, and he's not just getting in the habit with his punching power.
05:14 What he's doing, he's working on a plan, and he's working on his skill set, building his
05:19 skill set and tactics to get ready for the big fish down the line.
05:23 Now, I want to continue to see him step up his competition to see how well he does with
05:27 somebody punching back at him.
05:29 But however, tonight, this performance, Hainsworth, you named off the opponents that he's faced.
05:36 Hainsworth has been in there with some guys, man, some top guys, and he made it look easy
05:40 tonight.
05:41 >> He's been in there against Brian Jennings.
05:42 >> There you go.
05:43 >> Zhile Xiong, the former titleist.
05:45 >> How long did he go with you?
05:48 >> Against Xiong, he went three rounds.
05:50 He went three rounds against Brian Jennings, three rounds against Dale Long beating him.
05:54 First round knockout loss to Guido Villanueva.
05:57 So he's been in there, and this was as comprehensive a stoppage as we've seen of Don Hainsworth.
06:02 >> Did he get hit?
06:03 >> I don't think he even got hit.
06:05 I don't think -- look at him.
06:06 He's clean as a whistle.
06:08 Let's take a listen to the official time from Mark Shano.
06:10 >> Ladies and gentlemen, here inside Desert Diamond Arena, referee Raul Cayetez, Jr. calls
06:15 a stop to this bout at 2 minutes, 19 seconds of round number one.
06:20 For your winner by technical knockout, Richard "Kiki" Torres, Jr.
06:28 >> He said there's pressure to keep that perfect knockout streak going.
