00:42 In the middle of the road, they were rescued for almost 2 hours.

00:48 In the first investigation by the police,
00:50 the truck may have lost its brakes while on the highway.

01:00 According to the police, the driver was injured.

01:29 The boat and the victims were rescued and brought to the town.
01:32 In Luna, Isabela,
01:34 a man was injured for four years after he was almost drowned in the river.

01:57 According to the PNP,
01:59 there were 29 people who drowned this Easter.
02:02 Three were injured and three are still being searched.
02:05 To stop the incidents of drowning,
02:08 Senator Wynne Gachalian is pushing for a bill
02:12 that requires the presence of lifeguards in public swimming pools and bathing facilities.
02:17 For GMA Integrated News,
02:19 Mav Gonzales reporting for 24 Hours.
02:22 Their greetings are still loud.
02:26 Our countrymen are already returning home after spending the Easter in the province.
02:29 And from the Paranaque Integrated Terminal Exchange,
02:32 we are live with Jonathan.
02:34 Jonathan?
02:37 Pia, there are a lot of passengers here in PITEX.
02:41 The vacation is almost over.
02:43 And they are preparing to go to school and work tomorrow.
02:47 Back in Manila,
02:51 those who vacationed and returned to the provinces this Easter,
02:55 Kevin was given two boxes of rice and dried fish from Mindoro.
03:01 That's for one week.
03:04 Others will be given when they are...
03:06 Michael's family was given Mindoro rice.
03:10 I really don't want to eat.
03:12 But I already ate four.
03:13 I can buy more.
03:15 I might get a stomachache if I don't eat.
03:18 This family went to the sea in Quezon.
03:21 Swimming in the sea.
03:23 And catching fish.
03:26 It was fun.
03:27 We had a holy week with the family.
03:29 We played.
03:30 Mark had a very busy vacation.
03:33 He went to Quezon on a motorcycle,
03:35 but he returned home on a bus.
03:37 We were single, sir.
03:38 We were just in...
03:40 Bumaca.
03:42 So we just commute.
03:44 There were still a lot of people in PITEX earlier.
03:47 According to the PITEX management,
03:48 the number of passengers here exceeded one million
03:51 since March 22, the start of the holy week rush.
03:53 Some did not follow the traffic and are still traveling.
03:57 We like it more now.
03:58 Because there are few people returning home.
04:00 In the bus terminals in Cubao, Quezon City,
04:03 the number of passengers this afternoon is not that much.
04:06 But there is a build-up of cars in EDSA Camonings Southbound
04:09 that are going to the bus terminals in Cubao.
04:12 Passengers in the terminal in Sampaloc, Manila,
04:15 who are mostly returning home after the holy week in Metro Manila,
04:19 are also busy.
04:20 As of 5 p.m., the number of passengers in PITEX is already at 83,000.
04:30 But according to the terminal management,
04:32 they are expecting more people to return home.
04:36 The latest from Paranaque, back to you, Pia.
04:39 Thank you very much, Jonathan Andal.
04:42 Even if the pants are torn,
04:45 the authorities are not satisfied with the
04:47 use of a woman in a prison in Taguig for smuggling drugs.
04:51 That was pointed out by Aubrey Carampel, exclusive.
04:54 BBC portrays a woman in a prison
04:59 with a live-in partner in the Metro Manila District Jail
05:02 in Camp Bagong Diwa, Taguig this Saturday.
05:05 But according to a BJMP jail officer,
05:08 the woman was under a strip search or kidnap.
05:11 I felt that there was a woman in a prison, ma'am.
05:15 In a place where there were pants.
05:18 She said that she opened the pants with a pair of scissors.
05:21 I opened it because it was torn.
05:23 When I opened it, I looked at it.
05:26 It had white crystalline.
05:29 Three packages of illegal drugs were smuggled,
05:32 weighing more than 18 grams,
05:35 and worth more than P125,000, street value.
05:39 She immediately alerted her body and desk officer on duty.
05:43 I asked, "What is that?"
05:45 She said, "Ma'am, I was just ordered to bring it to the jail."
05:49 The BJMP has turned over the last suspect in Taguig City Substation 10,
05:55 who may face a complaint of violation of Section 11 of Republic Act 9165
06:01 or possession of dangerous drugs.
06:03 The police did not allow the suspect to be interviewed.
06:07 For GME Integrated News, I'm Obri Carampel.
06:10 We'll be back in 24 hours.
06:12 The power supply will be cut off on the first week of April
06:16 in some places in Metro Manila and Laguna due to poor maintenance.
06:20 We'll be back with Jamie Santos.
06:24 While the sun is shining,
06:27 Jenny Lin is still out of her house in Barangay UP Campus, Daliman, Quezon City.
06:33 You cannot stay inside the house. It's too hot.
06:36 Luisa's family also couldn't stand the heat of the weather.
06:40 We'll stay outside and it will be a bit wet.
06:42 Water the roof so that the heat inside the house will be less.
06:46 It seems like they will sweat more due to the announced line maintenance of Meralco when April comes.
06:52 Some places in Barangay UP Campus will be cut off due to this.
06:57 Some parts of Quezon City, Navotas, Makati City, Pasig, Muntinlupa and Laguna will also be added to the list.
07:06 We are told this every Thursday and Friday.
07:10 But during summer months, we are more careful knowing that our customers are really in need of power supply.
07:18 Last Sunday, the Energy Department said that the Luzon grid could be yellow alert in April and May.
07:24 The operation of hydroelectric power plants was affected by the lack of rain and the shortage of aluminum.
07:30 Meralco assured that their coordination with the Energy Department is ongoing and they have plans to cut off the supply of electricity.
07:39 Through having sufficient energy supply from our power suppliers, and including our participation in the interim power supply agreement,
07:53 so that we can meet our needs.
07:57 They are also urging the public to be vigilant in the consumption of electricity.
08:02 For JMAI Integrated News, Jamie Santos, for 24 Hours.
08:07 [Rain]
08:11 A large amount of ice fell on the coast of Cotabato this Thursday.
08:16 It is a blessing for the residents because it hasn't rained there for a long time.
08:20 The ice also fell on the Quibungan Benguet.
08:23 But this is a periwiso because the crops of the farmers were damaged.
08:27 In Lisbon, Portugal, a row of buffaloes was killed.
08:33 Buffaloes are not common in Europe, but they can still be found in the northern and southern parts of the continent.
08:40 [Train]
08:43 Some provinces are also arriving in Batangasport this Holy Week.
08:48 The latest on this is Paul Hernandez's live coverage of JMAI TV, Malitang Southern Tagalog.
08:54 Paul, how is the situation there?
08:56 Ivan, ships are arriving here in Batangasport from time to time.
09:01 Passengers will return to Manila and Calabarzon region.
09:05 [Passengers]
09:08 Because of his work this Holy Week, Chris Land did not experience the increase of passengers in Batangasport.
09:14 He is now traveling to his post-Holy Week vacation.
09:19 Because of the VPO, there is no fixed schedule.
09:25 There are others who were forced to take a Holy Week break and back to reality tomorrow.
09:29 We are back to work. It's a relief for the family.
09:32 It's okay. We are back to work. We need to go back because I have to go to work.
09:37 Bus operators assured that bus units will not be short for the 5,000 passengers who will return to Manila.
09:45 We have a lot of buses here that are on stand-by. There are 174 units.
09:49 We will include the reserves. All the passengers who will arrive here, we will finish them.
09:53 According to the Philippine Ports Authority, 96,000 passengers arrived in Batangasport from March 24 to March 28.
10:02 Ivan, 24 hours of bus stand-by here in the compound of Batangasport
10:12 to make sure that passengers who will return to Manila can ride.
10:16 And that's the latest from Batangas City. Happy Easter, Ivan.
10:20 Happy Easter and thank you very much, Paul Hernandez of GMA Regional TV, Balitang Southern Tagalog.
10:26 After the Holy Week break, the kids are back to school tomorrow.
10:31 But how will they be able to get through the heat in the school?
10:36 Katina Son is on the scene.
10:38 In the past few days, the heat index or the heat in Metro Manila is at 38 to 41 degrees Celsius, according to the forecast.
10:49 In other places, like Capiz, it even reached 48 degrees Celsius.
10:54 It's already at a dangerous level and could cause heat cramps, heat exhaustion or heat stroke.
11:01 Jing has already set up a mini pool outside the house to freshen up the kids.
11:07 But what about the back to school for the kids tomorrow?
11:10 Mommy Jing's discard is to put in the bag the heaters.
11:15 The sauna, the sauna, the bimbo, the alcohol, the extra face mask, the notebook, the rions, it's all complete.
11:24 She also said that she's taking extra care of the kids, not just in the hot weather, but also in the case of whooping cough or pertussis.
11:33 Of course, I still wear a mask until I go home. Then when I get home, I sanitize.
11:40 Other parents are calling for the kids to not go to school or to take online classes.
11:48 If possible, don't close the door face to face because it's too hot.
11:55 It's expensive to buy and you have to pay extra for the pain.
11:59 The DepEd is hoping that it will be a stepping stone.
12:03 The GMA Integrated News is also trying to get the DepEd's statement.
12:08 But they said earlier that school heads have the power to suspend classes
12:14 on hot days and on the making of barriers to get the students to school.
12:20 For GMA Integrated News, Katrina Son.
12:24 Tune in, 24 hours.
12:26 Instead of eating, a woman in Peru saw something different.
12:34 In her X-ray scan, it looks like a long-term thing that the doctors saw.
12:39 But it's not a bone, but a lung.
12:43 According to her surgeon, the woman drowned in an accident while eating chicharron.
12:48 She immediately went to the hospital, where she felt something stuck in her lung.
12:53 The lung pierced her artery, but the doctors successfully got her out.
13:02 This Easter Sunday, we're hoping that people who went on vacation
13:06 in the provinces this past week will go home together.
13:08 Let's find out the situation in Eslex and Darlene.
13:13 Darlene, how are you?
13:15 Pia, there's a new entry tomorrow, so it's back to reality
13:20 for those who went home or went on vacation in their provinces.
13:24 The traffic is starting to increase in different parts of Eslex,
13:28 like the Mamplasan-Biñan Bridge.
13:33 The one on the left of your TV screens is the northbound side,
13:37 and the tail end of the traffic is more than 3 kilometers.
13:40 There's also heavy traffic on the northbound side of the Carmona Railroad,
13:44 Eslex-Greenfield, Batino Area, and part of Cabuyao-San Cristobal.
13:54 Eric's family left Bawan, Batangas early in the morning
13:58 to avoid the heavy traffic on Eslex.
14:00 Yesterday, there was a lot of traffic.
14:03 Lizelle's family also had to endure heavy traffic for almost 3 hours,
14:09 like what they experienced last Easter Sunday, 2023.
14:13 We avoided the traffic because she's already going home,
14:15 and there's an entry tomorrow.
14:17 From the morning until the afternoon,
14:19 both north and southbound of Eslex are wide.
14:23 But the traffic on the northbound side of the Carmona Railroad
14:28 started to increase in Calamba, Laguna.
14:31 There was a minor vehicular accident
14:33 where two vehicles collided.
14:36 No one was injured in the accident.
14:39 Calamba is one of the choke points of Eslex.
14:43 From five lanes, the highway becomes three lanes
14:46 because of the road widening project.
14:50 Before 3 p.m., the vehicles also left
14:53 according to the Eslex Command Center.
14:56 From 3 p.m., the volume of vehicles
14:59 on the northbound of Susana Heights started to increase,
15:02 so the drivers are running slowly.
15:05 Because there are more drivers,
15:07 the traffic on the northbound of Santo Tomas-Batangas
15:10 is slow.
15:12 Those are the vehicles that left the start hallway.
15:19 According to the Eslex Command Center,
15:21 400,000 motorists will pass through Eslex today.
15:26 The heavy traffic situation may reach 8 or 9 p.m. later.
15:32 That's the latest from Eslex.
15:34 Back to you, Pia.
15:36 Thank you, Darlene Cai.
15:39 The Philippine Coast Guard's aerial inspection
15:43 showed that many of our countrymen enjoyed the sea
15:46 before returning home from their vacation this Easter.
15:49 Emil Sumangin was there.
15:51 From Pasay at 8.30 a.m.,
15:56 the Philippine Coast Guard's team
15:59 and GMA Integrated News flew in.
16:01 We were the first to arrive at the coastal town of Cavite.
16:06 We are now above Rosario, Tansa, Naic and Maragondon.
16:13 Our countrymen are now swimming in the deep.
16:16 We are with Commodore Jerry Tuvilla
16:19 to assist us in the next places we will visit.
16:22 We can see that many people are swimming in the beaches.
16:25 Our countrymen are influxing to celebrate Easter Sunday.
16:31 We can see that.
16:33 We then arrived at the coastal town of Batangas.
16:40 In the Tinagurian Basin, in Calatagan and Lethal Boracay,
16:43 the sea is full of fishing boats.
16:46 We saw many people in the town and in the dive resorts in Anilau.
16:50 But in Mindoro, particularly in White Beach, in Puerto Galera,
16:54 there are not many people.
16:56 The BRP Boracay is in a state of chaos.
17:00 The Philippine Coast Guard inspected the port.
17:03 We heard the complaint of some countrymen.
17:06 Our boat is okay.
17:09 Is it fresh? Is it hot? Is there a complaint?
17:11 It's hot.
17:12 My concern is we have an infant.
17:14 But it seems that their priority is to have online booking.
17:18 We don't know when we can buy.
17:20 Before, it was not like that. The air conditioning is not working.
17:23 According to the port manager, they will full blast the air conditioning system
17:28 and prepare the people's pool.
17:30 We prepared a lot of canopies outside
17:33 so that when the passengers enter, they have a roof and it's cold.
17:38 The Coast Guard will continue to monitor the situation for the next few days.
17:41 Even after our complaint, it's still a heightened alert
17:45 until such time that we will be directed to the headquarters.
17:48 For GMA Integrated News, Emil Sumangil, for Tutok, 24 Hours.
17:53 Police are chasing a horse-drawn car
17:58 that was a popular shoplifter in New Mexico, America.
18:02 A man tried to cross the road, but he was surrounded by police
18:07 and was arrested.
18:09 According to the police, the man stole $230 or almost 13,000 pesos
18:14 worth of goods from the store.
18:17 The suspect is facing multiple charges including shoplifting,
18:21 evading police, and a drug-related case
18:24 after he was given a drug paraphernalia.
18:27 Let's update on the traffic on the North Luzon Expressway.
18:32 Now, people from the North are returning from their vacation on Easter.
18:36 And live on TV, Dano Tinkunco.
18:39 Ivan, there's heavy traffic ahead of the provinces
18:51 this Sunday.
18:53 All morning, the NLEX was open.
18:58 The southbound was particular from San Fernando, Pampanga to Balintawak.
19:03 But by the afternoon, the number of vehicles is increasing.
19:07 Last Tuesday afternoon, the traffic in the province of Quintobolacan
19:11 was slow to Bocaue-Tol Plaza.
19:14 According to the NLEX, now that it is a vacation,
19:17 it is possible that up to 350,000 motorists will be able to travel
19:21 on the NLEX compared to the normal day that only 300,000.
19:26 In the SCTEX, from the daily average of 70,000 vehicles per day,
19:30 it is expected to reach 80,000.
19:34 They have made it better and they will deploy more people
19:38 like the Teler, Marshall, Quick Response Team and Security.
19:43 All lanes were also opened and no part of the NLEX or SCTEX is being fixed.
19:49 Counterflow lanes were also implemented from Jelez, San Fernando,
19:53 and Balagtas to Bocaue to allow Bocaue-Tol Plaza to be opened faster.
19:59 To avoid queues, there are additional toll collection points
20:03 and Bocaue Expansion Plaza has been opened with an additional 8 toll gates.
20:09 Three for RFID.
20:11 This is the part of our statement earlier.
20:15 While yesterday, we expect that the number of vehicles will increase,
20:24 especially this southbound.
20:27 So, until later tonight, we expect that we will have slow-moving traffic
20:32 from the southbound SCTEX to the Bocaue area.
20:37 And Ivan, to make the clearing of vehicles faster,
20:45 even if it is adjacent to the length of the NLEX,
20:49 until tomorrow at 6 am, they will implement free towing
20:54 for vehicles that will stall or have a delay in any part of the NLEX or SCTEX.
21:00 The barrier up is also being implemented now, particularly in RFID toll gates
21:06 to make it faster to get out and out of the vehicles.
21:10 That is the latest from NLEX. Back to you, Ivan.
21:13 Thank you very much, Donald Tincunco.
21:16 In the midst of China's attempt to make a mess in the West Philippine Sea,
21:22 President Bombon Marcos signed the law to strengthen the maritime security
21:27 and maritime domain awareness of the country.
21:30 Under Executive Order No. 57,
21:33 the importance of addressing issues in national security, sovereignty,
21:38 and maritime jurisdiction was given.
21:41 The change of the name of the National Coast Watch Council
21:46 for the Police and the Seas as the National Maritime Council
21:51 was formed by various agencies such as the Department of Defense,
21:55 National Security Council, Justice, Environment Department, and Foreign Affairs Department.
22:01 As for the President, the Philippines is facing continuous challenges
22:04 in the law and peace of the Filipinos,
22:06 even if the government is trying to preserve territorial integrity.
22:11 In Leyte, a unique tradition of penitentiary service is being lived every Holy Week.
22:18 It is called "Tais Dupol"
22:21 which is now the Archdiocese of Palo,
22:24 and is usually held every Friday.
22:27 Men wearing "patusok na hud" or "dupol"
22:31 are walking around the entire town of Palo
22:33 to perform the "Station of the Cross".
22:36 Some people commented online that "Tais Dupol"
22:39 was associated with the KKK or Ku Klux Klan
22:42 that was active in America in the 1800s.
22:45 Monsignor Urbina was saddened by this
22:48 and said that the KKK was a violation of the Catholic Church's beliefs.
22:54 The "Tais Dupol" is a demonstration of the lack of knowledge in history and cultural anthropology.
23:01 During the hot summer, the Filipinos are now used to going to the beach.
23:11 But be careful, you might get bitten by pests.
23:16 It's very itchy and painful.
23:20 And if you get bitten, what can you do?
23:23 Kim, what's next?
23:25 This video was taken during an outing on a beach in Palawan by Colleen's family.
23:33 But at night, Colleen noticed that her skin was getting oily.
23:38 It's really oily. It's a lot. It's a lot.
23:41 It's bigger than my feet, in the front of my legs, in the back of my thighs,
23:44 on the sides. I have one here on my neck.
23:47 When I wake up, it gets harder. It's like there's something inside.
23:50 It's itchy. It's like it has a circle of water.
23:55 Because I'm already sick of it.
23:57 There's a sunfly or what we call here, "niknik".
24:00 I don't know why I'm the only one who got "niknik".
24:02 There are many "bakawan" in the area.
24:04 Maybe that's where I got it because I'm the only one who walks around.
24:09 What should you do if you get bitten by "niknik"?
24:12 Kim, where can I see "niknik"?
24:16 Kim, what's next?
24:17 "Niknik" are pan-tropical insect pests.
24:20 It means that they live in tropical countries like the Philippines.
24:24 That's why it's associated with the name "sunfly"
24:26 because it's seen in the air near the sea
24:29 or in the narrow areas near the rivers
24:32 where the moisture is high or very humid.
24:35 Just like a "labokong" (dusty) sunfly, "niknik" also bite the blood.
24:39 The female that is mature enough for mating,
24:43 the one that bites, it doesn't really hatch because it doesn't have a mouth.
24:47 The type of its mouth part is piercing-sapping.
24:51 So it bites and then it bites.
24:53 "Niknik" are also hard to spot.
24:55 Its size is around 1 to 3 millimeters long.
24:59 They are barely visible.
25:01 It's very unlikely that humans can detect it
25:04 because it produces saliva which serves as anesthesia
25:10 so that you can't feel its bite.
25:12 But what you can see is the injury that it has.
25:17 So for those who plan to go to the beach,
25:19 it's good to wear protective clothing for "niknik".
25:21 If you're wearing long sleeves or rash guard,
25:23 if you know that there are "niknik" in the area,
25:26 you should also apply insect repellent,
25:28 like lotion or cream, to avoid the bite.
25:34 If "niknik" is bitten,
25:35 the affected part of the body is washed immediately with soap and warm water.
25:39 It can also reduce swelling and itching through cold compress.
25:43 It can also drink antihistamine for itching.
25:46 And pain reliever if it hurts.
25:48 Oatmeth or cream like "calamine lotion" is also good
25:51 which is a thing that "Koleen" did.
25:52 It's already wrong.
25:54 After I used "calamine",
25:56 it's just marks.
25:58 So for those who will go to the beach in the summer,
25:59 always remember that what's important is what you know.
26:01 I'm Kuya Kim and I'll answer you 24 hours.

27:48 [Baby crying]
27:51 Baby Dylan had a frequent and deep cough
27:54 for two months before she was confined to the hospital
27:58 in August 2023.
28:00 It increases every day.
28:01 Her cough is deep and it comes from here.
28:06 Her mother told her story.
28:07 At first, her pediatrician thought that the baby was just having reflux,
28:12 but her cough became worse the following days.
28:15 They stopped the breathing of Baby Dylan and tried to revive her.
28:20 When she was rushed to the hospital,
28:21 they tried to do a test on Baby Dylan.
28:23 She was diagnosed with pertussis.
28:26 She's in the second stage, the critical stage.
28:29 It's up to my child whether she can live or not.
28:35 She had various complications,
28:37 but Baby Dylan overcame them in just 10 months.
28:41 According to the Department of Health, from January to March 16 this year,
28:45 the number of cases of pertussis is 568.
28:48 The most cases are in Metro Manila.
28:50 Four people died.
28:52 DOH said that the patients are usually infected with pertussis.
28:56 DOH is reminding people that if they are waiting for the vaccine supply,
29:00 avoid the patients in public places and do not carry a face mask.
29:06 Consult the doctor if you have a cough.
29:10 It's not just an ordinary cough.
29:12 Look at the top and bottom of your mouth.
29:15 If it's getting worse or if your mouth suddenly stops,
29:20 it's probably a syringe.
29:23 Read your lungs and you will notice that it's not just a strong cough,
29:29 but it's continuous.
29:31 You're just lacking in breathing.
