00:00 Hi, I'm Clare McIntosh. I'm best known for my crime thrillers, but my new book needs
00:06 a little more of an introduction, I think.
00:09 Eighteen years ago, my son died, and for a very long time, grief consumed me. I thought
00:16 it would never get better. But a few years ago, I realised that I'd come a long way in
00:21 my grief journey, and although I was still grieving, and would always grieve for my son,
00:26 that grief no longer defined me.
00:29 I shared my thoughts online, in a post that swiftly went viral. I was inundated with messages
00:35 from thousands of people all over the world, who wanted to share their own grief stories.
00:41 I tried to reply to them all, and when I couldn't, I wrote a book.
00:46 I Promise It Won't Always Hurt Like This is part memoir, part grief guide. It's a book
00:52 to read when you're struggling with grief, or a book to give to a friend when you don't
00:57 know what to say.
01:00 It's the most exposing book I've ever written, it's the most personal, and I think it's the
01:05 most important. I hope you'll read it, I hope you'll share it with someone who needs to
01:11 hear it.
