00:00 There is no greater urgency than to ensure that our public schools are funded to 100%
00:05 of the minimum level of funding required, the schooling resource standard.
00:08 Whilst private schools are at 100% of that schooling resource standard, or indeed above,
00:14 in New South Wales we are at 89%, 11% massive gap. That reflects a chronic funding shortfall
00:22 in our system, that is $1.9 billion. $1.9 billion that should we have had it this year,
00:28 we could have employed 10-12,000 extra permanent teachers, a 20% increase across the board.
00:35 We began the school year in this region, according to the Department of Education figures,
00:41 with 149 unfilled vacancies, impacting 58% of the 257 schools across this region.
00:50 That is unacceptable.
