00:11 Unity Government spokesman Fatmi Fazil said this was jointly decided

00:15 by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and National Unity Minister Aaron Agodagan.

00:20 Mitra was placed under the National Unity Ministry last December.

00:24 The move prompted backlash from the Indian community,

00:27 with three groups calling for Aaron to step down after the minister reportedly said

00:31 he did not know the purpose of Mitra.

00:33 Aaron also denied that Mitra's funding was controlled by Pemandu,

00:38 the performance management and delivery unit in the PMD.

00:41 The unit was previously known as the Socioeconomic Development of the Indian Community Unit

00:46 and was under the PMD before being rebranded as Mitra

00:49 and placed under the National Unity Ministry in 2018.

00:53 In September 2022, the Ismail Sabri Yaacob administration returned Mitra to the PMD's purview.
