00:00 A possible new member of the Bloodline, an injury scare at last night's NXT, AEW stars
00:06 react to their releases and more. I'm Luke Owen and this was the WrestleTalk News.
00:17 However before we get into all of that, let's all enjoy Otis of the Alpha Academy, who only
00:23 just recently - in fact, in this following video - learned what Io Sky's name is.
00:30 That Amos laugh really could clear up any dreary day, couldn't it? Also, it should be
01:00 noted that while this was a pizza and cheesesteak eating competition between Otis and Amos,
01:05 it was won by Otis' tag team partner Akira Tozawa. And what was his secret? He was focused
01:12 on the task at hand and not telling funny anecdotes. Come on Otis, I'm sure Master
01:18 Gable taught you better than that.
01:21 On to more serious matters now, and last night's NXT saw a major injury scare which nearly
01:25 threw this weekend's Stand and Deliver into disarray. During the show, North American
01:30 Champion Oba Femi took on Joe Gacy, where Gacy was attacked by his planned Stand and
01:34 Deliver opponent Shawn Spears during his entrance. During the match, Gacy was tossed across the
01:39 ring by Femi and landed awkwardly on his head. The referee immediately threw up the dreaded
01:44 X sign and declared Femi the winner via ref stoppage. Trainers then got into the ring
01:49 to check on Gacy. Announcing Femi as the winner did make some viewers question if this was
01:54 all an angle to set up Gacy's match with Shawn Spears at the PPV, especially as Gacy
01:59 challenged Spears to the match later on in the show. However according to Corey Brennan
02:03 at Fightful Select, there was concern for a possible concussion. He adds the injury
02:07 scare was legitimate. Brennan reports that Gacy walked to the back under his own power,
02:12 however match graphics and a promo to set up his match with Spears were briefly put
02:17 on hold. Brennan reports that following the match being stopped, the following angle that
02:21 was supposed to take place was pulled - which would have seen Dijak and Josh Briggs have
02:26 an in-ring confrontation with Femi to set up a North American Triple Threat match at
02:31 Stand and Deliver. That was instead moved to a backstage segment later on in the show,
02:35 which Brennan reports was filmed on short notice. After being checked over, Gacy was
02:39 also able to film his backstage segment with Eva where he requested his Stand and Deliver
02:44 match with Spears.
02:45 Sticking with NXT for a moment, and Corey Brennan has another report for Fightful Select
02:50 that says there is another planned NXT call-up in the works.
02:54 Oli Davis covered on Monday's WrestleTalk News that there's been discussions about
02:58 bringing Elia Dragunov to the main roster once he loses his NXT Championship - with
03:03 the feeling that he's outgrown the NXT brand at this point in his career. And he might
03:07 not be alone, as Brennan reports via Fightful Select that WWE are very impressed with Roxanne
03:13 Perez and are looking to call her up, despite her challenging for the NXT Women's Championship
03:18 this weekend at Stand and Deliver.
03:20 Perez has featured in both the 2023 and 2024 Royal Rumbles, and Brennan's sources have
03:25 told him that WWE believe her main roster call-up is only a matter of time - with some
03:30 sources adding that the sky is the limit for the 22-year-old.
03:34 But there could be something that keeps her in NXT - which we will have more on in just
03:39 a moment - as it is time to announce another new competitor for this Friday's 40 years
03:44 of WrestleMania tournament over on partsFUNknown - where we'll be facing off in a round-robin
03:49 tournament to crown an eventual winner - and you will be able to pick the stipulations
03:54 and arenas that we wrestle in.
03:56 So far Oli and I have entered, and here comes a new challenger.
04:01 The Wrestling Video Game Extravaganza of the year is rapidly approaching.
04:06 Just in time for WrestleMania 40, it's 40 years of WrestleMania the tournament presented
04:11 by WWE 2K24.
04:13 Holly Musgrave enters the fold as the third confirmed competitor in this round-robin tournament,
04:18 joining Luke Owen and Oli Davis in this epic clash of titans.
04:21 You have a better than ringside seat to witness wrestling video game history in the making
04:26 by tuning into partsFUNknown this Friday, April 5th at 3pm British time.
04:31 It's 40 years of WrestleMania the tournament presented by WWE 2K24.
04:37 Make sure you subscribe to partsFUNknown to know when that tournament goes live, and stick
04:40 around to see me take down Oli Davis to prove once and for all that Steiner math is greater
04:47 than the pipe bomb.
04:48 And you can show your support for that cause by buying my t-shirt that tells everyone what
04:53 we already know.
04:55 Math is greater than pipe bomb.
04:57 Back to NXT.
04:59 Despite WWE feeling that Roxanne Perez's main roster call-up is only a matter of time,
05:03 Corey Brennan of Fightful Select writes, "Some in NXT would like to see Perez stick around
05:08 on the brand for the time being, to allow her to continue developing her new heel character."
05:13 Brennan adds that NXT officials have been blown away by this new character, and there
05:17 are even some pushing for her to win the NXT Women's Championship at Stand and Deliver
05:22 this Friday.
05:23 Brennan also corrects a few fan assumptions based on the heel turn, as some have speculated
05:28 that Perez has simply filled in for the also heel Cora Jade, who tore her ACL earlier this
05:33 year on a house show.
05:35 Brennan writes, "This is not completely true, saying that Perez was always planned
05:39 for a heel turn and that she and Jade were planned at one point to form a tag team prior
05:44 to the injury."
05:45 Sticking with NXT for a moment, and a former MLW star is teasing that he could be joining
05:50 the brand - and he has an interesting family connection.
05:54 Lance Anawaye is the son of Samu, who was part of the Hedge Shrinkers in WWF with Fatu
05:59 - also known as Rikishi - the father of Solo Sakoa and The Usos.
06:03 Lance is a cousin of The Usos, Sakoa, Roman Reigns and The Rock.
06:07 For an in-depth breakdown of that family tree, check out Oli Davis' video on that very
06:11 subject using the link in the video description.
06:13 Lance Anawye is also a former MLW Tag Team Champion, and was recently granted his release
06:19 from the promotion in October of last year.
06:21 Since then there has been a lot of speculation that he could be signing with WWE - with a
06:25 man himself even claiming that he was set to be a part of the Tribal Court on Smackdown
06:30 held in July of last year.
06:32 He recently tweeted that he only needs "one opportunity" using the Bloodline We The
06:36 One symbol in place of the word "one", and recently tweeted, "Could I be next?"
06:42 capitalising the letters NXT.
06:43 He's also been retweeting a lot of Roman Reigns videos.
06:47 Sean Ross Sapp on the Fightful post-show review of Raw noted that there isn't any word on
06:51 Lance Anawye coming in or being part of the WrestleMania Night 2 main event.
06:56 More likely, this is just Lance trying to get himself noted.
06:59 And I noticed him.
07:00 So well done you sir.
07:01 One name that many are hoping to see make their return for this year's WrestleMania
07:05 however is Big E - who's been out of action for more than two years since breaking his
07:10 neck on an episode of Smackdown.
07:12 Big E has continued to do media appearances for WWE over the years - even hosting that
07:16 pizza competition we talked about earlier - and is confirmed to be part of WrestleMania
07:20 this year in a hosting capacity.
07:22 But what about that in-ring return?
07:25 Well according to the man himself, the decision is in his hands.
07:29 He told CBS Sports that he doesn't have an answer on an update for a potential return,
07:35 but did note, "The great thing is, I think they put me in control of that, and I just
07:40 want to make sure that I'm making the best decision for myself and for my health moving
07:44 forward.
07:45 So it's just one of those things I want to be smart about."
07:48 You should really check out the whole interview, he talks very openly and honestly about the
07:52 worries of ending up in a wheelchair if something goes wrong, and notes that he's spoken to
07:56 the likes of Kevin Nash, Steve Austin and Adam Copeland about the injury as they've
08:00 also suffered from neck issues over the years.
08:03 Over to AEW now and the company came under fire yesterday.
08:06 Not just from CM Punk's explosive interview with Ariel Helwani, but also from them releasing
08:11 wrestlers from their contracts - despite Tony Khan previously going on the record to say
08:16 that he wouldn't do something like that and would keep wrestlers under contract until
08:20 they expired.
08:21 On Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer said the cut and this change in attitude were
08:25 concerning because it's not something AEW have done in the past, but added, "it does
08:30 make sense as they were talents that were not being used."
08:33 Several of the released talents have now put out statements about their releases, including
08:37 Anthony Henry who said he was devastated by the news, and even added that he may leave
08:41 the wrestling industry altogether.
08:43 He also put out a tweet that highlighted that the Work Horseman t-shirt is currently the
08:47 fourth best-selling t-shirt on Shop AEW in the past seven days.
08:51 Slim J noted on Twitter that he knew his gimmick was, and this is a direct quote, "trash"
08:56 but argued that his work wasn't.
08:58 He added in a following tweet, "All I wanted to do once I was signed was to get my wife
09:02 and daughter out of the s*** hole we live in.
09:04 They're my everything by far.
09:06 I've failed.
09:07 Does it mean I quit?
09:08 Not at all.
09:09 Meltzer's defeat and I'm broke ASF so I'm looking for a second, second job."
09:13 Gravity simply thanked Tony Khan for the opportunity, while Jose the Assistant has put out a series
09:18 of tweets putting over the likes of Andrade and Roosh who also put out tweets praising
09:22 his work.
09:23 Andrade, who recently returned to WWE, called him a loyal friend.
09:27 Jose also revealed the hot gossip from backstage in AEW that sometimes there wasn't enough
09:32 plastic containers to take home the leftover catering food.
09:35 AEW in the mud.
09:37 But as ten doors close, there could be two opening up, as PWInsider are reporting that
09:41 those in TNA believe that Alex Shelley and Chris Sabin - better known as the Motor City
09:46 Machine Guns - are heading to All Elite Wrestling after finishing up with TNA.
09:51 Finally from us, and we are very excited to announce that we will not only be doing our
