00:20 Hey, you did this yourself?
00:35 >> I did.
00:36 >> What are you, like sick?
00:39 >> He must want something.
00:40 Whatever it is, forget it.
00:43 >> You okay?
00:44 >> I'm fine.
00:45 [BLANK_AUDIO]
00:51 >> Why don't you just tell them?
00:55 >> What's the matter?
00:56 Poor Dave, you upset about something?
00:59 >> That's why.
01:00 [BLANK_AUDIO]
01:03 >> What's going on?
01:04 >> His family moved across town and he had to change schools.
01:08 >> Poor baby doesn't like being a new kid.
01:12 [BLANK_AUDIO]
01:16 >> If you think it's funny, why don't you try changing schools?
01:20 You don't know anybody, you get lost.
01:23 The kids treat you like you're invisible because they already have their own
01:27 friends.
01:28 If that means I'm being a baby, then I guess I'm being a baby.
01:33 >> It'll get better.
01:35 >> Yeah, you'll get used to it.
01:37 [BLANK_AUDIO]
01:43 >> I figured I might as well make the best of this.
01:46 So I came up with a story.
01:49 Now I'm talking.
01:51 It's about two kids who have to go to a new school.
01:55 It's strange for them at first too.
01:58 But what they find out is this school is far stranger than they could ever imagine.
02:05 [MUSIC]
02:10 Submitted for the approval of the Midnight Society, I call this story,
02:16 [MUSIC]
02:20 The Tale of the Hatch.
02:23 [MUSIC]
02:33 [SOUND]
02:43 The Blackbrook School was supposed to be one of the best boarding schools around.
02:56 So when Mr. and Mrs. Wilson had to go away on business,
03:00 they thought it would be the perfect place to set for kids.
03:03 [MUSIC]
03:10 >> So, what do you think?
03:14 >> Classic post-industrial construction.
03:19 I think it's charming.
03:22 >> I think it's a pit.
03:25 >> Well, I think we should go and try and find the tailors.
03:28 Come on.
03:29 [MUSIC]
03:32 >> Argy and Jasmine had never been to a boarding school, and
03:36 they weren't too happy about it.
03:38 If they had only known what was waiting for them,
03:41 they never would have set foot inside.
03:43 [MUSIC]
03:47 >> Why can't we just go with you?
03:50 >> Honey, we've been through this.
03:52 We don't wanna disrupt the school.
03:54 >> So you ditch us in this prison?
03:56 >> We're not ditching you.
03:57 It's not a prison.
03:58 It's a very well-known, highly respected-
04:01 [MUSIC]
04:02 >> God, who's that?
04:05 [MUSIC]
04:15 >> What's the matter?
04:16 [MUSIC]
04:19 >> Calm down.
04:21 It's okay.
04:22 >> Who are you?
04:24 >> We're parents.
04:25 You okay?
04:26 >> Yeah, I'm okay.
04:28 It was just a nightmare.
04:30 >> In the day?
04:32 >> Marie?
04:34 I knew we shouldn't have left you alone here, poor dear.
04:40 Hello, Mr. and Mrs. Wilson.
04:42 >> She was having a nightmare.
04:43 >> Marie's been running a fever.
04:46 She should be in the infirmary.
04:49 >> Delusionary dreams are often caused by elevated temperatures.
04:53 >> You must be Argy.
04:56 And Jasmine.
04:58 Welcome to Black Brook.
05:00 >> I'm okay, really.
05:01 It was just a dream.
05:03 >> Well, we're not going to take any more chances.
05:06 Off to the infirmary you go.
05:08 [MUSIC]
05:11 >> What's that?
05:13 >> Class change.
05:15 Shall we all meet in my office?
05:17 [MUSIC]
05:27 >> Some call us old fashioned.
05:40 And they're right.
05:42 But at Black Brook, we believe an orderly environment is essential
05:48 to the learning process.
05:51 >> What's with the buzzing?
05:56 >> It's our tone system.
05:57 It signifies the end of classes, mealtimes, wake up calls,
06:02 just about everything.
06:03 >> Different frequencies for different events?
06:06 >> Exactly.
06:08 And the tones are soothing.
06:10 Not like the typical jangling bells in most schools.
06:14 >> I'll bet you were adopted.
06:16 >> Now, if we can.
06:19 [MUSIC]
06:27 >> Mr. Taylor, are you all right?
06:31 >> No, yes, thank you.
06:37 Forgive me, I've been having migraines.
06:42 It doesn't happen often, but when it does, watch out.
06:46 >> Is there something we can get you?
06:48 >> No, no, I'm quite all right.
06:51 Please, let's continue.
06:55 [MUSIC]
06:59 >> I don't want to stay here.
07:01 >> I'm afraid we don't have a choice.
07:04 >> Yes, we do.
07:06 >> Why do you always accept things without a fight?
07:09 >> Because things happen for a reason, and I understand that.
07:13 >> Yeah?
07:14 What's the reason that guy went nuts in there?
07:16 He wanted his little tones to tell him to freak out?
07:19 >> No, he had a headache.
07:21 >> Headache.
07:21 I thought his brain was gonna explode.
07:23 And if I gotta stay here, my brain's gonna explode too.
07:26 >> Look, Jazz, you can get crazy and make a big stink like you always do,
07:32 but it's not gonna change things.
07:34 If mom and dad could take us with them, they would, but they can't, so get over it.
07:40 >> Monkey, I've never been away from home.
07:42 >> It's only for six months.
07:44 We can handle it.
07:47 We have to do it for mom and dad.
07:49 >> Yeah, well, I'm not where I want those lame boys.
07:52 [MUSIC]
07:55 >> That's official.
07:57 I'm a geek.
08:00 >> I'm gonna miss you so much.
08:02 >> Me too, Mom.
08:03 >> Promise to write once a week?
08:05 >> I promise.
08:06 >> You guys be good now.
08:08 >> We will.
08:09 [MUSIC]
08:13 >> I love you.
08:14 See you in about a month.
08:16 >> Bye.
08:17 [MUSIC]
08:25 >> I'm really depressed.
08:27 [MUSIC]
08:31 >> I think that means dinner.
08:32 >> My programming tells me you are correct.
08:35 I will follow.
08:37 [MUSIC]
09:01 >> What is this?
09:03 >> Sponge.
09:06 >> Sponge?
09:08 Like what you eat?
09:09 >> No, sponge with a U.
09:11 It's great, try it.
09:15 >> I'm gonna make a skin.
09:21 >> Some sort of grain meal, like grits.
09:25 >> Doesn't look so hot, but it's good.
09:28 We get it for dessert every night.
09:30 >> I think I'll pass as well.
09:32 [MUSIC]
09:38 >> I'll show you where to put your plates.
09:41 >> That buzzer is going to be nuts.
09:44 [MUSIC]
09:55 >> All the other kids were pretty cool, and they seemed to like the place.
09:59 So I and Chaz figured they might as well kick back and try and fit in.
10:03 Still, there was something just a little bit off about the black box.
10:08 Like some very strange rules.
10:12 >> Willie.
10:13 [MUSIC]
10:18 >> We've talked about this before, young man.
10:20 [MUSIC]
10:25 No sad faces.
10:28 We'll just remember next time.
10:30 [MUSIC]
10:40 >> Hey, are you nuts?
10:44 >> Excuse me?
10:46 >> Don't let anybody see this.
10:48 >> I'm not bothering anybody.
10:50 >> Doesn't matter.
10:51 You're not allowed to listen to music on school grounds.
10:55 >> Why?
10:56 >> Rules.
10:58 Tailors say it gets in the way of the learning process or something.
11:02 It's bogus, but they're pretty strict about it.
11:05 If you're gonna listen, be cool about it.
11:08 [MUSIC]
11:19 [MUSIC]
11:29 >> After a couple of weeks, they got used to the rules and
11:35 even started to like the place.
11:37 [MUSIC]
11:41 Then one night, things took a strange turn.
11:45 [MUSIC]
11:55 >> Marie, what's going on?
12:10 [MUSIC]
12:20 >> Wake up.
12:35 [MUSIC]
12:38 >> Don't scare me like that.
12:41 >> What is going on?
12:43 >> You're the genius, tell me.
12:45 >> This tome went off, and all the guys got out of bed.
12:50 They started loving the place.
12:52 >> Yeah, sing with the girls.
12:56 >> That's a lot to take.
12:57 >> No.
13:00 Let's sing with one.
13:02 Come on.
13:03 [MUSIC]
13:13 >> Just please, I don't wanna get into trouble.
13:25 >> Then go back.
13:26 [MUSIC]
13:36 [MUSIC]
13:46 [MUSIC]
13:56 [MUSIC]
14:06 >> Man, this is not normal school.
14:21 [MUSIC]
14:31 Fascinating, some sort of containment system for water.
14:38 [MUSIC]
14:48 >> This is wrong, we've got to get these thorpies.
14:54 >> Don't be such a chicken.
14:57 [MUSIC]
15:02 Kit?
15:03 [MUSIC]
15:06 Kit, you okay?
15:07 [MUSIC]
15:14 Amazing.
15:16 [MUSIC]
15:26 >> Marie?
15:30 What are you doing?
15:33 What is this?
15:35 [MUSIC]
15:42 >> I told you not to scare me like that.
15:49 >> This is incredible.
15:51 It's like they're all hypnotized into knowing exactly what to do.
15:56 >> Yeah, but what are they doing?
15:59 [MUSIC]
16:09 [MUSIC]
16:17 >> It's an egg.
16:18 [MUSIC]
16:26 >> Excellent.
16:27 [MUSIC]
16:37 [MUSIC]
16:47 [MUSIC]
16:50 >> There they are, dear.
16:54 You're a chicken.
16:56 >> Thank goodness.
16:58 I didn't think they were eating their sponge.
17:02 >> They all do.
17:03 >> It's just too good to resist.
17:07 [MUSIC]
17:14 >> Come on.
17:15 [MUSIC]
17:25 [MUSIC]
17:30 >> Let's just call the police, okay?
17:32 I want to find out what's going on first.
17:34 [MUSIC]
17:44 [MUSIC]
17:58 >> Our work is finally going to pay off, my dear.
18:02 The incubation is nearly complete.
18:06 >> They won't be alone much longer.
18:08 [MUSIC]
18:14 >> The master is pleased.
18:16 She's been patient these hundred years.
18:19 >> Her patience will soon be rewarded.
18:22 Then we can shed this infernal trap.
18:26 [MUSIC]
18:39 >> Toast to our troubled past and our glorious future.
18:47 >> To the master.
18:49 [MUSIC]
19:04 >> Did you see that?
19:05 Did you see that?
19:06 They're lizards.
19:07 >> This isn't real.
19:08 It can't be.
19:10 >> It's real, Aunt Rosie.
19:11 When those eggs hatch, this place is going to be crawling with them.
19:14 >> I don't understand.
19:16 Are they aliens?
19:18 >> I don't know, and I don't care.
19:20 All I know is we've got to get out of here and tell somebody.
19:22 >> We can't.
19:23 They'll catch us.
19:24 [MUSIC]
19:28 >> All you ever do is follow the rules.
19:31 Well, the rules just went out of the window, pal.
19:33 You talked me into staying here, and now you're going to get us out.
19:38 I am going to go get dressed.
19:40 You get a grip.
19:42 [MUSIC]
19:52 >> Chas, let's go.
20:10 >> I got a plan.
20:12 If we open--
20:13 >> Ah!
20:15 >> You're joking, aren't you?
20:18 You should have beaten me up so much like all the others.
20:22 >> You're a monster.
20:24 >> Really?
20:26 I haven't seen anything yet.
20:29 [MUSIC]
20:41 >> I can't believe how the excitement's just begun.
20:48 [MUSIC]
20:58 >> Shit!
21:07 That's the way back to the sheds.
21:09 [MUSIC]
21:23 There.
21:25 [MUSIC]
21:31 >> I don't like this.
21:33 >> We can hide here.
21:35 They'll think we escaped and stop chasing us.
21:38 [MUSIC]
21:43 >> What's that?
21:45 >> Pipes.
21:47 They make funny noises.
21:50 [MUSIC]
21:51 >> Okay.
21:53 [MUSIC]
21:59 >> Your children should have eaten your sponge.
22:03 >> I'm afraid we can't let you out to tell our secret.
22:06 [MUSIC]
22:12 >> What are you?
22:14 >> The last of a race that was doomed to extinction.
22:20 Until now.
22:23 >> We've nurtured the eggs for ages.
22:26 Soon they'll hatch and once again we can populate the earth.
22:32 >> And you use the kids to take care of them.
22:35 >> Genius, don't you think?
22:37 It's ironic.
22:39 We're a race of meat eaters.
22:41 All kinds of meat.
22:44 Once the eggs are hatched, the children will serve another purpose.
22:49 >> The young ones will be very hungry.
22:54 [MUSIC]
23:01 >> We're trapped.
23:03 >> Very few children have caused problems the way you two have.
23:08 But when they do, they always end up down here.
23:14 >> You're very lucky.
23:16 You get to meet the mother.
23:19 [MUSIC]
23:21 >> Mother?
23:23 [MUSIC]
23:25 >> Lucky.
23:27 >> What's that?
23:29 [MUSIC]
23:35 >> You've stumbled upon the lair of our master.
23:40 And she hasn't eaten you.
23:43 >> Indeed, madam.
23:46 [MUSIC]
23:48 >> Come on, kitty.
23:52 >> Bon appetit.
23:54 [MUSIC]
24:03 >> Getting the sun is.
24:05 [MUSIC]
24:09 >> There's a noisy sound.
24:13 >> The kids are here.
24:15 [MUSIC]
24:27 >> Do it.
24:29 [MUSIC]
24:39 [MUSIC]
24:57 >> You did it.
24:59 You did it.
25:04 Oh, yuck.
25:06 This better not stink.
25:10 >> The tailors.
25:12 [MUSIC]
25:26 >> Gross.
25:28 How do you know?
25:30 >> They couldn't stand high frequency sound.
25:33 Like when my watch went off and no one could play music in school.
25:38 It just fit.
25:42 I may be a chicken, but I'm smart.
25:47 [MUSIC]
26:04 >> Kit?
26:06 >> What happened?
26:09 Where are we?
26:11 >> Wait outside.
26:13 We'll take you upstairs.
26:23 I guess when we got the money, we got a lot.
26:29 >> This is like a dream.
26:31 >> It is.
26:32 >> And you're not going to have nightmares anymore.
26:42 [MUSIC]
27:02 >> Where is it?
27:07 >> We're at the latest meeting of the Midnight Society.
27:12 And make sure to go straight home, guys.
27:18 >> Why?
27:20 >> Because tonight is a school night.
27:28 [MUSIC]
