ANYONE who has doubted Hayley Westoby has only empowered and motivated her. The 29-year-old from Sydney was determined to prove the people who said she could not lose weight wrong. At her heaviest, Hayley weighed 302lbs after the weight piled on due to lack of exercise and eating whatever she wanted. However, over the course of three years, Hayley dropped 143lbs as well as those who doubted her. She now loves the life she leads and is surrounded by supportive people. Hayley told Truly: “When someone tells me that I can't do something, I literally sit there and I'm like, 'watch me'.”

00:00At my heaviest I weighed 302 pounds I got to the point that I was like I'd rather be fat and
00:06Just live with it the boyfriend that I was with at the time
00:10We had a heated argument turned around and was like lose some weight you fat b****
00:15When you're presented something like that you can either feel sorry for yourself
00:19Or you can take it and run with it and make what you will of it
00:23I've lost a hundred and forty three pounds over a period of three years
00:28When someone tells me that I can't do something just sit and watch me
00:37Growing up I've always been fairly active and loved my sport so I competed in any sport
00:43I could get my hands on it wasn't until I went to university that I
00:48Let go of all the things that I loved because I just tried to fit in I just wasn't playing a sport
00:52I wanted to just do what everyone else was doing
00:55You know I started going out a lot more
00:57I started eating what they were eating and that then just kind of snowballed and then throughout university
01:02I obviously saw my weight pile on
01:05At my heaviest I weighed 302 pounds
01:11Good morning, how are you?
01:13That's good. I've made you breakfast like I do every morning
01:18Daughter of the year, that's me
01:20Will we have a concern about how these were yeah?
01:23I think we were and I think the biggest time it really
01:26Dawned on us. We all went as a family for walks
01:28I realized then how heavy she was and how difficult she was coping with the with the terrain and the walking itself
01:35You know her knee was starting to give up on her because of her weight and things like that
01:39They were affecting her now physically, but that was then affecting her mentally
01:43And I suppose that's really the first time it really dawned on us
01:47That we had a problem, and we had to try and solve
01:50Probably at my biggest boyfriend that I was with at the time we had a heated argument
01:55He kind of turned around and was like lose some weight you f*****g
02:01I smile about now because it's something that I honestly think has helped me
02:05I think that when you're presented something like that you can either
02:09Take it feel sad about it feel sorry for yourself
02:11And it doesn't actually benefit you or you can take it and run with it and make what you will of it that I was
02:17Like you know what I can do this, and I will do it, and I'll prove everyone who thought that it wasn't possible wrong
02:24I have lost 143 pounds. I did it over a period of about three years and
02:31Love living my new life that I have now
02:37I've not always had people that have supported me
02:40There's definitely been people that have doubted me
02:42And I just use that to empower me to motivate me
02:46And that's probably one of my biggest motivators when someone tells me that I can't do something just sit and watch me
02:56When I was that weight I was like I'd just rather be happy in the weight that I am in and live my life
03:03But it wasn't until I lost the weight that I realized being able to be comfortable in a bikini
03:08Now even though I've got stretch marks even though
03:11I've got those things that a lot of people would look at as flaws. I would never have been this confident before
03:18So we're going to pop over to Kelly's, one of my best friends, and jump in the pool because it's hot today
03:33For me the biggest compliment and the thing that makes me feel the most proud is
03:39To see the impact that I can have on others that for me is something that is is something that I'm most proud of
03:46Watching your journey definitely helps. I was scared to start but by you kind of pushing me and helping me
03:53Really like kick-started my own journey
03:57There's times where you definitely think you're alone so to have someone to look at and go wow she's been through it
04:02Oh, well, I can do it as well
04:05You are your biggest critic, and I think that you can criticize yourself so much more harshly
04:12Than anybody else will. It comes back to surrounding yourself with people that are supportive
04:17You know I've got some of the biggest hype women and men in my life, and I love it
04:22I'm really proud of me
04:23And I think being proud of yourself is something that you eventually get to and you eventually come to terms with
04:29So yeah, I'm pretty proud of myself
04:42You
