00:00 Hello, my name's Lawrence Smith and this is your Sussex World News Bulletin for Thursday, April 18th, 2024.
00:07 A reopening date has been announced for a major Horsham Road that has been shut for weeks causing lengthy detours for drivers.
00:14 Gas company SGN has confirmed that work to upgrade the local gas supply network in Worthing Road, Horsham will finish in mid-May and the road finally reopened to traffic.
00:24 The gas network operator is replacing old metal pipes in phases along the B2237 starting from the junction with Blackbridge Lane.
00:32 It is part of a 30-year program of work developed with the Health and Safety Executive to replace gas mains that are reaching the end of their useful lives with new reliable plastic pipe which SGN says has a minimum lifespan of 80 years.
00:47 A photographer has sent in pictures of the severe delays between Rottingdean and Peacehaven this morning as traffic issues look set to continue.
00:56 Drivers were urged yesterday morning to avoid travelling on the westbound road as 80-minute delays were reported due to temporary traffic lights at Rottingdean High Street.
01:06 The AA Traffic News Live map shows that there are still delays on the road.
01:10 Motorcycle enthusiasts from Worthing and Russington are preparing for an adventure riding the length of Great Britain non-stop to raise money for Kent, Surrey and Sussex Air Ambulance Charity.
01:20 Four friends have planned a route that avoids motorways, adding to the challenge, and that is after they have made the 750 mile journey from Worthing to the start point at John O'Groats in Scotland.
01:31 Organiser James Beach, 42, from Russington, is a motorcycle instructor for Norton Motorcycle and Scooter Training in Worthing.
01:39 He will be riding with Michael Le Febourg, 53, and Matt Pryor, 37, from Durrington, as well as Matt Forrest, 37, from Goring.
