00:00 Former Inspector General of Police IGP Tun Mohamed Hanif Omar was laid to rest at the
00:11 Bukit Kiara Muslim Cemetery at 3.15pm on Saturday.
00:16 His remains were buried next to his son, the late Ahmad Jamal Omar, who passed away in
00:21 2013.
00:23 Before the burial rites, IGP Tan Sri Razzaroodin Hussain handed over the Jalur Gemilang that
00:29 had draped Tun Mohamed Hanif's coffin to his second child, Abdul Rahmat Omar, symbolising
00:34 the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM)'s profound respect for their esteemed colleague.
00:40 Mohamed Hanif, who breathed his last at 2.15am Saturday at the age of 85 due to kidney disease
00:46 at his residence in Shah Alam, Selangor, served as the fourth IGP starting from June 8, 1974,
00:54 at the age of 35, until his retirement on January 15, 1994.
01:00 Earlier, his remains were taken to the main prayer hall of the National Mosque, where
01:04 Surah Yasin was recited before the funeral prayer led by Chief Imam Ehsan Mohamed Hosni
01:10 was performed.
01:12 Around 1,000 attendees, including family members, senior police officers and friends, gathered
01:18 for the funeral prayer.
01:19 "God is great when he is alive.
01:24 He is a hardworking and dedicated person.
01:29 After his retirement, he asked me if he was too concerned about the country and neglected
01:41 his family.
01:42 I said that he was okay, but I said that the children understand that when he is in charge, he is a state's right.
01:50 Even now, if we all gather at the National Mosque today, for Allah's mercy, to be buried at the Mahkamah Pahlawan, if we follow his tradition, he is not because he does not like to be neglected.
02:06 But we as a family and as the government and the Malaysian police, we are talking about
02:14 the truth.
02:15 Even though he is our father, my mother's husband, he is still a Malaysian right.
02:31 So, if the government wants to go to Pahanggan, it is okay."
02:36 The late Mohamed Hanif has been described as a highly patriotic individual who always
02:41 put the nation's welfare above personal and familial interests.
02:46 Razeruddin hailed the late Mohamed Hanif as a legendary figure within the Royal Malaysia
02:50 Police and shared that he and his father had the privilege of serving under Mohamed Hanif's
02:55 leadership for more than a decade.
02:58 "As the head of the state police and the service under this father, since I was an inspector
03:08 until I was in the HB, I considered him as a police officer who is wise, has his own
03:17 wisdom and I also considered him as a legend in the world."
03:27 Former IGP Tan Sri Musa Hassan reflected on Tun Mohamed Hanif's legacy, highlighting
03:32 his pivotal role in orchestrating significant reforms within the police force and spearheading
03:38 intelligence operations, particularly against the communist insurgency during his tenure.
03:43 "In terms of security, he was involved in many areas of security, such as the communist
03:51 era, and many other things.
03:53 So his experience is valuable to this country and the people.
03:59 With our division, we are losing because he is no longer with us."
04:05 Also present were the Prime Minister's wife, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Aziza Wan Ismail, as well
04:11 as Deputy IGP Datuk Seri Ayob Khan, Maiden Pitchay, Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar and other
04:17 top police officers.
