MP for Rutland Alicia Kearns at the unveiling of the statue of the Queen
Transcript
00:00 Ladies and gentlemen, esteemed guests and Rutlanders, today we gather to unveil this
00:06 incredible statue of our beloved Queen. This is a magnificent tribute and it serves as
00:12 a reminder of her late Majesty's grace, her wisdom and her unwavering commitment to her
00:17 kingdom and to every county, even this, her smallest one. As we stand here before this
00:23 monument I hope we can reflect on her legacy, a legacy of compassion, of strength and of
00:30 leadership. She guided us through challenges and celebrated us in times of joy. I know
00:35 her memory lives on, not just in this statue, but in our hearts and under the very fabric
00:40 of our society and I hope that this will be an enduring memory and beacon of hope and
00:46 inspiration and unity. So I hope that we can go on to honour her memory by upholding the
00:51 values that she held so dear and striving for a better future guided by her example.
00:57 But my biggest privilege today is to say an enormous thank you to Dr Sarah Finesse, our
01:02 incredible Lord Lieutenant and I'd like to start by asking you all to please give her
01:06 a big round of applause.
01:08 This is no mean feat and it is no surprise that when Sarah put her heart and her mind
01:20 into it, she delivered and didn't she deliver. Not one statue, but one plus two corgis, nothing
01:27 is too much for her. And then a third. This woman is an absolute powerhouse and I'm
01:33 so privileged to be part of this today. But this is a statue for all of Rutland and actually
01:38 for all of our country who came together, as Sarah said, in the darkest of times to
01:44 mark her passing. But now we come together in joy. So thank you to all of you. Thank
01:50 you for showing your commitment and your support to Her Majesty and to the Royal Family. I
01:55 will put down a marker that we look forward to seeing a horseshoe delivered in due course,
01:58 I hope by His Majesty, and we will all again turn out for that. But I leave that to say
02:03 again thank you all to all of you Rutlanders for your commitment and your support. But
02:07 Sarah, you are truly a powerhouse and we are very grateful to you for giving Rutland this
02:12 opportunity. Once again, multimparo and once again we lead and others will follow. Thank
02:17 you Sarah.
02:18 [applause]
