A final Bears mock draft for BearDigest prior to the 2024 NFL Draft as the Bears try to maximize the picks they have and add more picks with a trade down.
Transcript
00:00It's one last time around the mock draft oval for the Bears as we go to mock draft 6.0 for
00:14Bear Digest.
00:15We'll make one last attempt here to project who the Bears are going to be able to pick
00:19in this draft.
00:20And of course it starts with Caleb Williams.
00:25First the business of the trade.
00:27Jerry Jones offered the 24th pick overall, a 2nd and a 3rd rounder, and a 6th rounder.
00:33Not sure why, but who cares.
00:34The 9th pick belongs to Dallas.
00:36The Bears move down and there is plenty of talent still there in the first round for
00:40what the Bears are looking to get.
00:43The Bears are on the clock in mock draft 6.0.
00:46Round one, number one, Caleb Williams of course.
00:49You know the last week there's been a lot of talk about exactly when did Ryan Pouls
00:52know he was getting rid of Justin Fields.
00:55What difference does it make anyway?
00:56He's gone and the Bears have the best passer they've had ever really, but at least since
01:01they've had face masks.
01:03Sid Luckman was a long time ago.
01:05Williams had 93 touchdown passes, 14 interceptions, and he has targets now.
01:10He's about to get more.
01:12Round one, number 24.
01:13First he's going to get a help up front, center, Jackson Powers Johnson.
01:18A popular player with mock drafts because he's basically an animal for Oregon.
01:22At center, 6'3", 320, he moves very well, 5.03 seconds in the 40, gets outside in the
01:28white zone and on screens and just totally takes people out.
01:32They need a long term answer.
01:37Round two, number 56 from Dallas.
01:40If you can't get a top receiver talent by trading down, get speed.
01:44Total speed.
01:45And that's Xavier Worthy, the fastest man ever at the combine.
01:49Some people paint him as a no hands receiver, just a fast guy.
01:53That's not true.
01:54He had 197 catches, 2,755 yards in three years.
01:59He didn't catch those passes with his feet.
02:02And he returns punts.
02:03The Bears have looked for someone to do this for three years.
02:07Round three, number 75, running back Jalen Wright from Tennessee.
02:12More infrastructure for Caleb Williams, one of the fastest backs in the draft at 4.38
02:18seconds for the 40.
02:19A real breakaway threat, running or catching.
02:22But he's 5'11", 210, he's no small guy.
02:25He's going to be their version though of Jameer Gibbs.
02:28Now there are some fast people and good receivers for Williams to throw the ball to.
02:35Round three, number 87 from Dallas, defensive end Braylon Trice from Washington.
02:40Now here's your edge, the extra edge player they need.
02:44They have to get one in the rotation with Montez Sweat and Demarcus Walker.
02:47He had 18 sacks in three years and 28 tackles for loss.
02:53He ran a 4.7240.
02:55He does need to put on a little weight at 2.45, but the scouts like his pressure.
03:00He just needs to get to the quarterback more.
03:05Round four, number 122, safety Sion Vakai of Utah.
03:09The Bears need someone young to bring along because they brought in a bunch of castoffs
03:13and aging Kevin Beiner to add safety.
03:16Vakai is an all-around athlete who played a lot of offense besides defense.
03:21He's a gadget type player, a wildcat quarterback.
03:24At 5'11", 210, he has a 39.5 inch leap.
03:29He's played all over the secondary.
03:32In round six, number 216, defensive tackle Jordan Jefferson from LSU.
03:37A former West Virginia defensive tackle who had transferred.
03:40I like to describe him as a three technique type at 6'3", 313, who was very quick off
03:46the ball.
03:47He had six sacks, 21 tackles for loss, and a real knack for getting in the face of quarterbacks.
03:53He knocked down eight passes.
03:55The Bears get extra picks to help out Caleb Williams and they supplement what they have
03:59on defense.
