00:00The Luzon Leg of the Indigenous Peoples Games was a success in Salcedo, Ilocos Sur.
00:07This is the story of Daryl Oclares.
00:11Pekang, Tika, and Pataluntun.
00:14These are just a few of the famous games in the Luzon Leg of the Indigenous Peoples Games
00:20that took place last Friday in Salcedo, Ilocos Sur.
00:23More than 200 IPs from 14 cities were present at one of the games that is said to be of great importance to the culture of our people.
00:31This program became possible because of the help of the Philippine Sports Commission
00:36and the local government of Ilocos Sur under the leadership of Governor Jeremias Jerry Singson.
00:42According to Singson, they support the programs of PSC and Bukas Sila
00:47in case they will be given the opportunity to host any sports event.
00:51I am thankful to PSC and we were given the opportunity.
00:55We asked for the PSC to have an office here in Ilocos Sur as a training center here in the North.
01:05Our facility, what we call the Kirino Stadium, is okay.
01:12It can be used nationally or internationally.
01:15We are continuously improving.
01:18We are also thankful to Salcedo Mayor Ninia Graciel Gironela Itzon
01:23because their town was chosen to host the IP Games.
01:27First of all, I want to take this opportunity to thank Commissioner Matthew Gaston and Governor Jerry Singson
01:38for giving us the opportunity to promote our tradition,
01:42especially the traditional games that can be shown to the younger generations
01:49about our tradition when it comes to IP Games.
01:54PSC Commissioner Matthew Fritz Gaston also shared that they want to expand the IP Games.
02:01This was an oversight to me. I had no idea what actually IP is.
02:05But when I saw and experienced it, I said,
02:08this is what Gov was talking about earlier, our culture, tradition and heritage.
02:14For me, it's very important.
02:16With that, I said, this is really big and we will make it even bigger.
02:20And with the support of such LGUs like Gov, who are very supportive of this,
02:25we should always keep in mind where we were, where are we, and where are we heading.
02:31That is a heritage, that is tradition, that is culture that we should always cherish and be proud of.
02:38Aside from IP Games, the Indigenous Peoples Forum also held a forum
02:43where they discussed the rights of our people and the importance of their games in our culture.
02:49In Bacolod, the next destination of the Indigenous Peoples Games
02:53is the far-flung fishing grounds of our people.
02:57From here in Salcedo, Ilocos Sur, Daryl Oclares for Pambansang TV in Baton, Philippines.
