00:00 So this is the first song of your life, Papa Kehte Hai, I guess, right?
00:03 So when you look back at this time after four decades, how special is this song for you?
00:09 Oh well, it's the song that actually started my career
00:13 and certainly it's very special, I think
00:16 when we were making this film, the way Nasir sir supported us,
00:23 the way Mansoor was making his first film, and all of us were very new in that film
00:27 Kiran Dehwans was the DOP, it was his first film
00:30 Anand Milind Nair was there, Juhi, Uditji, Alkaji, we were all starting our careers
00:37 you know, the editor, the sound recordist, all of us were actually
00:40 all new doing our first film or at best second film
00:44 so it was a very exciting journey
00:47 at that time we had no idea whether we would be successful or not
00:51 and whenever Mansoor and I used to watch a film, we always saw its shortcomings
00:57 so we used to discuss about it, that scene should have been like this,
01:01 this is missing in this, we used to be in that
01:04 then one day the film was released and we got it
01:08 and then it was a very exciting journey to see the kind of love it got
01:14 I like to believe that 'Kayamat se Kayamat Tak' was a milestone in Indian cinema
01:21 it changed the whole sensibility of Indian cinema from then onwards
01:26 from 1988 you can see the shift happening
01:28 and I think Mansoor was the first director to bring that about
01:31 so it's a very special film for me in every way
01:42 So I'm gonna have to ask, this song has become so famous and popular again
01:46 by re-releasing, any other song which you want to focus on to re-release again
01:50 from any of your movies?
01:52 Oh no, actually I had never thought that this song would ever get re-released
01:56 it just so happened that Tushar made this film
02:00 and it so happened that I think this song must have been creatively
02:03 something that was naturally coming apart of your story
02:07 then one day Bhushan met me and he said that we have used this song of yours
02:12 and made this film, is it okay?
02:14 I said yes, of course it's okay
02:16 and because I think that you know
02:18 I think Shrikant's story tells us something very important
02:23 that like Raj was saying that when he met Shrikant he felt that wow what a guy
02:30 the important thing in this is that in our lives, the dice of life
02:37 it throws something or the other wrong at times
02:40 it can go wrong in the beginning of your life
02:42 you can be born with some challenge
02:46 or in your life as you are going along sometimes life will throw a challenge at you
02:51 but how do we live with that challenge?
02:54 what response do we give to that?
02:57 how did Shrikant's parents support him?
03:00 how did Shrikant live his life?
03:02 that tells us that in all our lives at different times there are challenges
03:07 and how we respond to them
03:09 this film teaches us that you have to be strong
03:12 and if you are strong and you believe in yourself
03:15 then you can achieve anything
03:17 and this is what I am looking forward to in this film
03:19 this is what I am looking forward to
03:21 [Applause]
03:24 [Music]
